  1. 250 different cultures and 171 different languages with over half the population being born outside of Canada. That is not a recipe for a high trust society. Mind you the vast majority are south Asian (I worked in Brampton for several years until 2013).

  4. Trudeau actually hopes to save his political skin by replacing an electorate that will no longer have him. While newcomers and non-citizens aren’t supposed to vote, recent changes to Elections Canada rules make it next to impossible to determine whether they have or not. If he can hang on until the fall of 2025, the demographic reality in many ridings will be forever changed.

    All of the discussion about reducing TFWs and rules for student visas has little effect on the reality of what is happening right now: especially in rural areas. Did you know, for example, that in “designated” communities in rural Alberta, temporary foreign workers do not need an LMIA assessment to get a job or apply for permanent residency? The fact that the government has reduced LMIAs by 20% simply changes where people end up – not the numbers.

  7. Decades ago, immigrants assimilated, adopted Canadian culture; communication and travel isolation made it necessary. Modern travel and the internet had made that unnecessary. Now, immigrants have no reason to change.

    On a related note, I was in YEG headed home not too long ago. Me and the missus passed a gate with an Air Canada plane boarding to Toronto. Nothing but towel heads in line. As I led the way crashing through the lined up crowd that spilled out into the thoroughfare because none of those ignorant pricks would let people pass through, Missus asked me where the plane was going.

    “Brampton.”

    1. YYC is no better. The only non diversity hire I encountered there this past November was an elderly white female airport employee directing people to a new security lane that just opened up. EVERY security personnel was of the curry or Aloha Snackbar persuassion.

      Even worse, the missus and I were in YYC on another trip and stopped into the Superstore adjacent to the airport. It was quite late at night and we we the only two white folk in the store. employees and fellow shoppers were of the above noted demographic.

      I was so much easier 40 years ago when those of Irish / British and German extraction riduculed us mere Ukrainians as “garlic snappers”.

  11. My sister moved away from Brampton last summer. She’d lived there all of her life (mid 50’s age wise). Every time we speak on the phone she always says hie much nicer her current locale is compared to Brampton.
