I started reading that Science link. Had to stop. Politics as Blarney Science.
Same. I lasted 3 sentences.
My God, it’s good to see people having the same sentiment. The writing is turgid, obscurantist and borderline unreadable. Was this “written” by an A.I. bot?
Quite possibly by Fenris Badwulf. Also turgid, obscurantist and borderline unreadable.
What an utterly disgusting article. And to start it by saying Trump is anti-science is just ridiculous political hatchetry. Trust me … the lies and bias just repeated from there on.
And to state that global warming has caused MULTIPLE crises around the world is a laughable … utterly “religious” confession of faith. Yeah … EXTREME weather and BOMB cyclones Oh My! Good Gawwwd.
Don’t forget the atmospheric rivers and polar vortexes.
I scanned briefly, saw BIPOC in a sentence and stopped. There are some things these Leftist creatures always include in their scolding and that is one of them. No need to read.
If you want to see a German lady lose her temper you’ve got to watch Sabine Hossenfelder on Youtube. She’s raging on that Physics has been captured by clerks that sit for decades and churn out little math papers that don’t prove anything and don’t advance science.
Literally “Science” is supposed to be: propose a theory, test it with data, make adjustments, and repeat.
Science as currently practised is State Theory as fact, cherry pick data, ignore all other data that contradicts the theory and engage in personal destruction of dissenters and heretics.
Total bullshit: I can’t believe I read the whole thing.
If you look at his list of articles you will see they are all 100 percent BS from start to finish.
Policy Based Evidence Manufacturing.
This is all our benevolent Bureaucrats are now willing to fund.
Once, for a very brief period,we had Evidence Based Policy Making.
This turned out to be Too hard for Committees and usually counter productive as the evidence would reveal the policy makers as utter fools.
Meet “The New Science”..A product guaranteed to meet the policy objectives of those funding it.
A product absolutely useless to the tax payers who pay for it.
“Government is not reason; it is not eloquence. It is force. And force, like fire, is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.”―George Washington
Not only should science not be attached to the state but if it is, its practitioners certainly should not be involved in partisan political pimping as it is sure to be a conflict of interest. It should not even be funded by the state. The history of totalitarian states should be evidence enough. Lysenkoism was rampant during the COVID Stalinism which persists. Corrupt climate “science” is more rent-seeking than objective pursuit of truth and reality.
I was a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (Science‘s publisher) for 44 years. I joined soon after I received my B. Sc. in 1977. Even during the time of Ronald Reagan, the AAAS’s editorial policy was muted and respectful.
Remember, it was during his two terms that issues such as acid rain and the effects on the ozone layer of cholorfluorocarbons arose. The views of his administrations on those matters often drew harsh criticism from scientists.
But, even then, I don’t recall reading anything as harsh, vitriolic, or corrosive as the highlighted screed. (I quit reading after a few sentences.) That acidic attitude began soon after Trump took office in 2017 and never diminished for the remaining time of my membership. I never read anything in Science that was favourable to him, regardless of whether it was written by the editor-in-chief or a guest contributor.
In 2021, I’d finally had enough of the hostility and the woke turn of the organization and decided not to renew. It saddened me as I was proud of my AAAS membership, particularly since that organization, for decades, had a stellar reputation. If I recall correctly, people such as Thomas Alva Edison belonged to it.
Farewell, AAAS. It was nice knowing you.
The whole ozone hole and CFC scare was a beautiful scam from beginning to end, and a wonderful windfall to Honeywell, who sold the designated “green” replacement for Freon.
I remember watching a technician changing the refrigerant in a bank of commercial coolers where I worked. He arrived with a pair of new, green-and-purple painted cylinders prominently marked “Ozone Safe. CFC Free.” But before he could refill them, he had to empty out the old Freon tanks.
He rummaged around in the back of his van and returned with a battered, plastic baby’s bathtub that he set on the floor while he solemnly drained the Freon from each condenser tank into it. Then he carefully picked up the tub and carried it outside – opening the door with his shoulder. He walked a few paces into the parking lot, and then tipped the tub up on end, emptying the Freon onto the pavement – like a pantomime of someone emptying a bucket: shaking it a few times before tucking it under his arm.
When he saw my shocked expression, he laughed. “What the hell do you want me to do?”, he asked. “Seal it up in a metal tank? I just drained it out of one. It’ll break down in the sunlight, anyway.”
Apparently there was no provision made to store or collect Freon from old fridges and freezers, so refrigeration technicians simply threw it away…
It was not a scam. It was a real problem that we’ve made real progress to solve. This does demonstrate however why people like you have no business questioning real scientists.
That “Ozone Hole” was there long before it was ever discovered and will be there long after all humans are gone. It is a phenomenon controlled by temperature and the Sun. Intense cold destroys Ozone in the winter and the Sun starts making it again in the Antarctic Spring. That’s why it disappears every Antarctic summer and reappears every winter.
The mere fact of you coming out to proclaim “It was not a scam!” is sufficient to satisfy me that it was totally a scam.
You know what they run in fridges and AC these days thanks to the likes of you? Propane. We replaced nice, safe, non-explosive Freon with propane, an explosive when under pressure. Plenty of examples of fires caused by refrigeration leaks in Mexico, Europe and etc. Kaboom, baby.
Lord D. Nice to hear from you. Been awhile, B.A.
Appreciate your voice.
I decided that I’ve been spending too much time on sites like this, so I’ve been keeping a low profile in recent times.
science has devolved from being empirical to being imperious.
Science must serve the revolution. All those who disagree are counter revolutionaries who must be silenced. Who knew?
Over time, it seems that many words change their meaning and eventually start to mean the opposite of what they actually started out meaning. There are many examples. Unfortunately the word ‘science’ has come to mean something very different from what science was understood to be even 50 years ago. The way it is often used now is meant to designate something the exact opposite of what it should mean.
When climate science isn’t driven by politics and greed then what caused them to be wrong with their scientific doomsday predictions the last 100 years.
Remember when “science” told you it was our fault?
Separating politics from science is not really the issue. Sir Isaac Newton, a scientist everyone is familiar with, served two terms in parliament. A whole list of notable scientists moved to different destinations throughout the world with the distinct purpose to help one government overcome another government. Einstein is not the least of these. Oppenheimer worked for the government, obviously.
The point being that separating pure science from politics is nearly impossible and would require the scientist to disavow personal value, virtue and opinion. Impossible, and unfair. However, you could do much by reforming the Government grant programs. It’s broken. It’s corrupt. It’s preconceived in the way it’s awarded. It’s not so much “I wonder what we’ll find” and more “I’m getting $7 Million to prove that such and such exists.” And, it’s not just governments. The United Nations does the very same thing. Even the grants are awarded to parties that in all likelihood will show the desired results.
So, politics, isn’t what erodes the credibility of scientists. It’s the corruption applied monetarily, and the dangling enticement of prestige regardless of facts, truth, and objectiveness.
L- During the panicdemic, I would engage some people in a scientific discussion about what
was going on. But only with the people, who could answer the following question:
“Is censorship part of the scientific method?”
If they were confused by the question. There was nothing to discuss. Others were so afraid
of the question, even though they understood it. They acted like it was a trick question; one
that might lead them face to face with unresolved cognitive dissonance. Something too scary
to consider. They’d respond with e.i. “I trust my doctor, the government, the media!”.
Yes, the fruitful discussions were few but have increased steadily over time. The Mass Formation Psychosis does, as Mattias Desmet, predicted, diminish over time.
The irony remains, that all the political opportunists condemning irresponsible government spending that caused massive inflation. They carefully neglect to admit to their or their supporting role in e.I. doubling the national debt during the lockdowns.. of economic production.
On the other side, the presstitutes spread of economic syphilis did not go unnoticed, and now being so unfollowed, many have been reduced to working from home, possibly in a closet or (water closet)bathroom.
So the Earth is now the center of the universe?
You’re referring to Galileo? Because, he was confined to prison as a result of holding the opinion that the Earth circles the Sun, and not the contrary as held by the Catholic Church (which at the time was the most powerful “political” party there was).
And, it’s a valid comparison, being that the Church of Climate Change calls anyone questioning their motives a heretic.
my understanding is the vatican or whatever it was in galileo’s day knew bloody well he was right, they just couldnt ‘toss’ the belief system which was the foundation of their existence.
Yup, that’s my understanding as well. The church was actually pretty lax on the enforcement. I think Galileo still lived in his house while imprisoned. You have to wonder how the churches are going to handle an alien civilization showing up on earth. They better hope they look sort of like us, or that whole Genesis verse about God creating man in his own image is going to make things awkward. 😀
What kind of moron cites Michael Mann as an example of an apolitical objective scientist?
We’re still waiting for the slightest bit of proof that humans cause climate to change.
There won’t be any. Sadly about 80% of the population believes this nonsense.
I am a scientist and that was awful. I lasted 3 sentences.
Most of these experts wouldn’t recognise the scientific method if it bit them on the @ss.
Science is a journey of curiosity & discovery, best fraught with animated discussion and skepticism. An ongoing process that’s never closed, ever open to revision as unbiased research reveals new findings.
Often confused with scientism by pseudo experts, technocrats and LARPing politicians.
Same crowd that confuses libertarians with libertines
Science:
Make an observation

Formulate a hypothesis
Conduct an experiment to test the hypothesis
