“The Department of Finance has a low on-time compliance rate with regard to responding to requests,” said the Internal Audit Of Access To Information. “Why is it important?” asked the report. “The Access To Information Act provides a right of access to records under the control of a government institution.”
The Act requires acknowledgment of every request for records within 30 days even if it is notice of an extended deadline delaying the actual release of documents for months or years. Auditors found in the period from 2021 to 2023 the finance department had an on-time compliance rate of as low as 40 percent.
