  1. Well … he mouthed the right words …

But that’s all for now. When the termination notices start arriving … I might believe it

  2. Keep Calm.
    Noise to Signal.
Recall the last number of theatrical years, full of sound and fury…
    Signifying…?
    Act 3.

  3. Trump needs to take a woodchipper to the federal government. Its current cost and scale is DEFINITELY not what the founders intended and WILL tank the country if it continues in its current form. FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION.

      1. So do I but I do not believe Canadians, of which I am a 76 year old Canucks, are smart enough to know this pruning is absolutely necessary.

  4. Hot damn.
Getter done well before the midterms!
There’s a razor thin majority in the house. Read somewhere it’s the tiniest Repub majority since 1931.

  5. Limp Johnson won’t get it done. Way to spineless and feckless. Trump put his faith in the wrong horse.

    1. Trump had to support Johnson for now. If there were Speaker infighting and uncertainty about who would be Speaker it could have had a serious effect on Trump being certified as President. That would still happen, eventually, but t would have been a huge mess, and might have happened after Jan. 20.

      1. Eminently sensible. You deal with one thing at a time. There’s a very short time between now and the 2026 midterms. So whatever DJT and his cabinet-to-be wants to get done, they have about two years in which to do it. Two years from now will be the start of the new Presidential election cycle.

Replacing Johnson is NOT a major policy goal.

  6. If you said that in Bananada you would probably get arrested for hate speech after peoplekind in the civil serpents unions make complaints about it.

  7. Governments use government hires to influence GDP numbers when required to boost popularity. Ultimately it’s counterproductive and unsustainable.
Slow reductions in government employment numbers will only increase wild pushback.

    1. Amen, hit em hard, hit fast and hit em all at once so resistance becomes impossible like whack a mole.

And whole agencies. Redundancy is the one way to get around civil service protections in the US. in Canada, I’m not sure if even that is feasible.

      1. It is, and it’s done from time to time in Canada. It’s done by taking away the activities of an agency. But these activities cannot be statutory, i.e. mandated by legislation. The affected bureaucrats either find another posting within government or take some retirement package.

But it can be hugely time-consuming with lots of potential side effects and unintended consquences. It took the Harper government more than three years to eliminate Atomic Energy of Canada. This scorched earth policy is only used when there are no other possible ways to solve a problem. For example, Stephen Harper had a large problem with pushback from Foreign Affairs in the mid-Zeroes. So he dealt with it by shutting down departments and closing useless embassies. This is why Foreign Affairs was cheering so wildly when Justatwit was elected in 2015.

  8. I’m trying to understand the intricacies of the US Congressional system. Could someone explain how the minority party gets to nominate one of their own for Speaker? Is there some scenario in which the minority could win and hold the Speakership even though in the minority? How would that work? Actually, I’m not sure why they get a voice in the process at all. Is this constitutional or traditional? I guess it’s in the checks and balances?

    1. Just as in Canada it’s the members who vote for the speaker. In theory a speaker from another party could get elected. Obviously the speaker position in the US is explicitly political whereas in our parliament it’s supposed to be neutral.

      1. Ackshuwahly, in the US, a Speaker of the House can be elected who is not a member of any party and is not even an elected politician. They must be a US citizen since the Speaker is in the line of Presidental succession, but it could be some one like Theo Von.

  9. Which agencies? Is this going to include the DEA and ICE? A lot of good could come of this but it’s all going to be cancelled out by the tariffs and war on immigration.

    1. Hey dummy.

We still have tarffs on the books.
Plus look at Americans history of using tariffs.

  10. All I can say is “we will see what happens”. Maybe President-Elect DJ. Trump will announce all of it during his acceptance speech to the American People. How long until it take’s to effect all said categories, it’s going to be like watching the old TV “The Honeymooner’s”. KAPOW – ‘I’m going to send you over the moon’.
