National Post- Ottawa-funded social justice research isn’t science
The now-widespread practice of requiring researchers to submit statements affirming their commitment to DEI with their applications for jobs and grants incentivizes lying, Prof. Geoff Horsman, a Wilfrid Laurier University biochemist, told the committee in early December. Some grant applications even evaluate socioeconomic and environmental impacts — which is open to the interpretation of those granting the funds.
I don’t know what goes on in the width of a room, but why did nobody say, you know this is what the Soviets and Mao used to do?
Nothing in the social “sciences” are science. Just putting the word there doesn’t make it so.
How about taxpayers stop funding “Science”?
The writer calls NSERC, SSHRC, and CIHR, the “Tri Agencies”. They have long been calle the “Tri Councils.”
Just nit picking.
Also, the Canada Research Chairs program is about funding salaries for the chairholders and their lackey post docs, not their equipment, which is funded by the Canada Foundation for Innovation–set up in 1997 to augment the tri councils by covering equipment and large infrastructure, thus freeing up tri council budgets’ focus on soft funding of salaries, which thus frees up university budgets to hire more administration, etc.
As for DEI criteria, while that may be more recent, the tri councils have for decades deployed criteria to meet the flavour of the day.
And don’t get me going on their biased peer review processes….
