      So I will use the abreviated and just say it would be a dissolution of the federal power of the crown (aka Ottawa) and the provinces then given the choice to become a state under the US constitution, stay as part of the commonwealth as independent states, or re-establish another crown authority under a newly renegotiated confederation with those provinces that wish to remain under the federal authority of Ottawa.

      I know which choice I prefer.

  7. He’s talking about an economic union, not a political one. Even if we don’t go forward with this there are some things Canada should be doing, like getting control of our ports. Ingress (and egress) of men and materiel via our ports is apparently very easy. That’s how many illegal people and goods enter the country and many illegal and stolen goods exit it. From there, go on to international airports.

      2. Selling our ports to foreign powers doesn’t seem to be a good strategy. Take a look at the ports owned by the Chinese for multiple examples. You are correct that our ports are most inefficient in the G7. The reason is that they are completely infested with organized crime, and most of that is foreign gangs. That is what I was alluding to when I said “getting control of our ports.”

        The EU is a political union. O’Leary isn’t suggesting that, he is suggesting a tighter economic union. We have already had a number of those via various trade based treaties, Auto Pact, Free Trade, NAFTA, and USMCA are examples of this. However, in order to do that we would also need to harmonize and tighten up some of our laws and policies. We had to do that as part of our past treaties so this will be no different.

I read that the US was developing bacteria that would scrub the remaining coal seams in defunct West Virginia mines and provide a near limitless source of ‘natural gas’. Certainly oil is important for the petrol chemical industries and the marvelous standard of living and longevity plastic has provided.
    More important is a source of clean fresh water. We have lots of that, except near the Indian reserves.
