    4. The main reason why the per-person annuity got stuck at $4 was that the budget of the Department of Indian Affairs ballooned ever since. That budget effectively replaced the annuity. What the tribe is demanding is that they effectively get paid twice. It’s astounding that the court did not take this into account.

      The potential cost of these settlements alone account for a big chunk of the skyrocketing deficit numbers. We’re at the point where a court decision could basically bankrupt the treasury.       1. As long as there is one breathing lawyer, there is no end to the rent seeking of the grievance industry. The benefits received by on-reserve Indians from all non-reserve payers since the treaties and or the first benefit needs to be tallied and subtracted from all claims. I don’t think the treaties included free health care, education, housing and other monetary transfers that have happened over the last 150 years or so.

        Since this legal system of justice is such that those not responsible for so-called non-compliance by the Crown represented by no living person today – are responsible to compensate those who are a diluted racial remnant legacy of the aggrieved, it would seem timely and responsible if a government ended the grift by cancelling all treaties along with the Indian Act (removing the Crown and all the silliness of “government to government” negotiation). As compensation and final act before the elimination of apartheid, each Indian and Metis be given their DNA equivalent portion of Crown land in fee simple ownership or cash equivalent on the sale of the equivalent area open to the public. IOW, a full-blooded Indian gets 1/current Canadian population times the total Crown hectares nearest or including their reserve or traditional territories, a 1/16 Indian get 1/16th of that and so on for the 1/164th Metis. Thousands of white pimps and lawyers (redundant, I know) would have to find productive work along with Indian royalty and politicians. It would amount to around 27,000,000 hectares ( just under half the size of Saskatchewan), adding about 3% to the 11% of Canadian private land. To dream!!!!

In 2 of the articles linked, one had many spelling mistakes and the other about the little girl beaten to death by her Muslim father had a paragraph about Trump musing that if he lost, then he would be moving to another country – nothing to do at all with the article from Great Britain.

        I find that belief to be inconsistent with his skepticism about every vaccine preparation. Why is he not skeptical about something that has scant evidence of true. Scant evidence that fossil fuels are “killing the planet”. Why doesn’t he turn his fine-tuned skepticism at Global Warming rebranded as Climate Change and EXTREME weather?

I have defended the COVID vaccines, based on the fact that the vast preponderance of scientific evidence — mostly by independent researchers from around the world — has found they are reasonably safe and effective, Further, the evidence against them is relentlessly shoddy.
