National Post- The most nonsensical Trudeau gun ban yet

So, if you were legitimately rounding up a bunch of guns “designed for the battlefield,” it would be very strange if that list contained a bunch of firearms chambered in .22 caliber.

But this one does. Most notably, the list includes the GSG-16, a .22- caliber “plinker” rifle that is occasionally sold in pink. There’s also several guns made to look like famous military rifles, but which have the very non-military capability of firing .22 bullets one at a time.

  1. That these two stories cascade is perfect. Arrest a man, with previous arrests with an illegal hand gun and immediately put him out on bail. Federal government to confiscate squirrel killing weapons and send them to Ukraine.

    1. PP has pledged to undo it and I believe him. What I don’t believe the CPC is capable of doing is to cement firearm ownership rights into the constitution in order to prevent this from ever happening again.

          Currently, Prohibited = Can’t transfer and can’t shoot, Restricted = Can tranfer but can only shoot at a gun range.

          By the time the Conservatives form a government (if they do) there won’t be any gun ranges because the existing ones will all have gone under financially – and like the cancelled pipelines, there will be nobody willing to invest in any new ones with the risk of a future Lib/NDP governments pulling the rug out again.

          So the only places available for non-land owning gun owners to shoot will be public lands. Hence no “Prohibited”, and no “Restricted”.

          We’ll be out there shooting watermellons with full auto machine guns and the yellow-bellied pussywillow buttercups will just have to suck it up.

          1. Years ago I had riveted my FAL magazine to 5 rounds. Recently I welded it to zero rounds figuring it would never again be fired and not trusting the pigs. I would love to fire it again. The magazine can always be repaired, I guess. It’s just a semi-auto rifle. I’m not even sure why it was restricted, much less prohibited. The rifle I used in the reserves was the FAL, now they make me a criminal for shooting one.

Alberta and Saskatchewan governments have both introduced legislation to prevent the federal government from being able to confiscate firearms from their citizens so I’m not concerned about the federal legislation on a personal level. The ideology behind taking property away from law abiding, licensed owner is offensive. Everyone, even anti-firearms activists, know these “buybacks” (how can the federal government buyback property they never owned?) from licensed owners will do virtually nothing to reduce crime in urban areas. It’s not about crime reduction, it’s yet another attack on law abiding citizens for political reasons by our increasingly authoritarian government.

    The projected costs are 700 million dollars, money that should go to borders and ports to reduce smuggling operation. Interrupting the smuggling of guns, drugs and illegal immigration would be 100% more effective at reducing violent crime in Canada. Keep violent criminals in prison instead of going after hunters, farmers and ranchers. This should be obvious even to Liberal or NDP voters in Montreal, Vancouver and Toronto.

      1. That’s quite a bizarre take from my post. The Canadian firearms black market is mainly smuggling in handguns and then selling them to criminals. Even the US does not allows felons to legally purchase and own firearms or allow smuggling firearms into the country.

The US National Firearms Act of 1934 is unconstitutional, and, as I have said before, it should be no harder to buy a gun than a shovel, machete or chainsaw, and to suggest otherwise is to suggest that the Turd has a legitimate role in gun control. Just because you are scared of criminals with guns. Guess what? Criminals don’t care about the law, so no matter what laws you pass that make it harder for normal folk to get guns, all you really accomplish is to disarm the law-abiding.
          A man’s ownership of firearms is none of the gov’ts business.

          2. I get the philosophical point but I’m not convinced that everyone that can get a driver’s licence should get a firearm. Convicted muggers, bank robbers, murderers, etc. do not have the self control to be trusted with legal firearm ownership. I also think that completing a gun safety course is sensible.

          3. I don’t think it should be up to you, or anyone else, to decide who can or cannot own a firearm.
            If you believe that the gov’t should decide, well, the Turd is your man.
            If a man is too dangerous to let on the street with a gun, he’s also too dangerous to let on the street period…or are you OK with dangerous felons on the street, just so long as they don’t have guns? You’re fine with them having, say, machetes? Do you want machete control, too?

Yes, I think the government does have a responsibility to keep firearms out of the hands of violent felons..for the same reason we punish bad driver (DUI, reckless driving causing death, etc). If felons are found with firearms they should be charged, ditto for unlicensed drivers. As a licenced driver, licenced firearm owner and hunter I see the need for safe driving courses and gun safety courses. Both require a knowledge of rules and laws, how to safely operate a gun/vehicle and basic maintenance. I think both should he handled by provincial governments, not the federal government.

  17. If those eeeeevil black guns are only good for killing the maximum number of people in the minimum amount of time, then why does law enforcement have them? Is there a scenario where this is necessary? Asking for the public safety minister…

    1. They needed them that one time for that bank robbery in LA. I think cops ended up using deer rifles from a local store.

      I’ve only seen cops with ARs a few times. George Floyd riots most recently.

    comment Clean it constantly. Don’t fill the magazines all the way. 90 rounds for the drum mag and 18-20 in the stick mags. CCI Stingers have worked best for me, but don’t buy any ammo in bulk until you’ve shit tested it in smaller quantities at the range. Don’t hit the charging handle too hard. Try not to go too crazy with rapid firing it. A slight pause between trigger pulls. Don’t pick it up by the barrel sleeve. Magazine couplers prevent proper feeding by squeezing the mag and binding the rounds and spring. Keep a few mechanical pencils on hand as the springs in them work as adequate replacements for springs that will likely yeet themselves out of your gun at some point. Use a cold weather lubricant when shooting in cold weather. That’s about all I can think of at the moment.
