I believe this is one of the models to be discontinued. 

As if carbon tax, output based pricing, oil and gas emissions cap, Clean Fuel Regulations, Clean Electricity Regulation, and EV mandate weren’t enough, apparently the federal government has now decreed that for the sake of saving the planet from climate change, no more than 10 % of new heavy trucks (Kenworth being the example in this story) can be sold with a manual transmission. And that’s coming in just a few weeks time.

Several Kenworth models will be discontinued. In southern Saskatchewan, the vast majority of trucks in the patch that I see are Kenworth.

    1. I agree that the people behind this government are the problem. Sadly another supposedly conservative government will not do anything about this.

      If they actually did and rightly fired everyone and reversed everything they had enacted, I would then have to consider that government as actually representing conservatism and the people.

      Until then, I will continue to regard them as a fake controlled opposition puppet party. One that answers to the same people behind the curtain as the other overtly leftist parties.

      Actually, me ‘n a few of the boys down at the bar were talking about invading Canada and taking over. We have 4 guys from the Cajun navy, a couple good ol’ boys each from Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia, and one from Kentucky who said he was in.

    They are taking away the infrastructure that sustains us one item at a time. When there are no more trucks, there will be no more goods delivered to grocers or meds to drug stores.

    They are working hard to eliminate those things so that we comply or die …. not sure what it is we must comply with … maybe we don’t … maybe they just want population reduction.

      There’s a nice sideline for somebody. Fake VINs and paperwork for otherwise legit late-model manual trucks smuggled from the USA.

  7. L- Has the introduction of automatic transmissions into big rigs helped to facilitate bringing
    in 3rd worlders, without the experience and training, to drive big rigs safely in Canada. The
    scandal still not addressed, after the Humboldt Broncos tragedy due to someone: not at all
    qualified, allowing 3rd worlders to operate “training schools” at 3rd world standards and
    then somehow being granted a 1A licence by provincial governments. All this seems to be
    for the sole purpose of lowering the wages of drivers towards 3rd world levels.

    While no politicians, no MSM, no public safety institutions expose how deadly dangerous
    Canadians roads have become, due to adopting this 3rd world level of corruption! !

    This isn’t a secret in the industry, as every retired 1A driver, I’ve ever talked to mentions it.
    But, of course in a post-nation state, there is no truth. There is only power to control …
    well, …everything.

The introduction of auto shift has led to a situation where many drivers cannot drive a standard shift properly, despite having a license which legally allows them to drive a truck with any transmission they want. Ostensibly, auto shift is better on fuel mileage. But it’s also a much more expensive transmission. But cost is no object when you goal is to change the temperature of the earth.

    Maybe Dennis (above) has kind of answered this. Perhaps they’re content to sit back and collect the extra dollars.

    1. Mack trucks already sell about 90% of their vehicles with an Automated Manual transmission or Automatic Transmission, so this won’t affect them now, but I’m sure it will when the next dictate comes from the government to reduce the AMT to 10%.

  12. What does an automatic transmission have to do with emissions? From my experience, standards in cars and pick-ups always got better fuel milieage.

    1. It’s hard to drive a manual in sandals.
      Therefore manual transmissions are racist and discriminatory.

    2. 10-speed automatic beats 5-speed stick for mileage (theoretically, according to “studies” anyway) and that’s why all your pickups are 10-speed automatics now. Because CAFE standards go by -fleet- emissions, the emissions of the total number of vehicles produced in a year. I don’t know what the “studies” say for big trucks, but I bet they had to work hard to “prove” that automatics are “better”. Quotes indicating sarcasm of course, because truckers KNOW what gets them the best fuel mileage and overall performance, and that’s what they buy. The stick.

      Automatics are good for soccer moms and trucking -companies- who want to hire Somali goat herders at $10/hr under the table. Your average goat herder can’t manage a truck with 18 speeds and a clutch without some very expensive training, a slushbox makes the training much cheaper. Which may have had quite an effect on the fuel mileage “studies,” nudge nudge, wink wink.

      Personally I prefer something that shifts when I want it to, rather than when it deems necessary after meeting all the parameters and requirements decreed by the All-Knowing Programmers. After all, the programmers aren’t sitting in the truck with me, they don’t know if I need a frickin’ down-shift RIGHT NOW, not when it is best for fuel mileage.

      Down deep under everything else, mandating an automatic shows a condescension toward the operator that borders on hatred. “The poor things can’t be expected to know what’s best, you know. Peasants, after all. We, who have read the “studies,” shall decide when to shift. And everything else about the drive.”

      1. Quite correct. Neither is methane. Even the solvents used in autobody manufacturing. The terpenes produced by evergreen contribute to a higher local atmospheric organics load than those produced by the old-school enamel and laquer paints.

  17. I was at a Moose Jaw truck stop a few years back when Mo pulled in and missed a turn or something and had to back up. The place is made for a straight drive up and park but Mo screwed up somewhere trying to figure out how the system worked. No problem he’ll just back in. He starts back and can’t resist cranking the steering wheel.
    He’s jack knifed almost immediately. Pulls ahead and tries again. Jack knifed the other way. After 3 attempts he leaves the truck. He’s taking up 3 or 4 spaces himself but hey he can pull out and hit the highway.
