  1. The reference to Hong Kong is grim and insufficient. Half the Canadians sent there in 1940 became casualties. All the rest went into Japanese prison camps. Less than half of them survived to the end of the war.

    So the Post understates the disaster in 1941. The total Canadian garrison was lost, most of them dying.

    1. The Canadian Army has always been deployed woefully and poorly equipped on every mission it ever went on. Chronic lack of capability in just about every category from boots to helicopters. And what we do send is almost always broken. Just ask what the normal VOR rate is for the LAV or the Leopard tank and you can almost always count that 30% to 50% are waiting parts and repair. Then ask about ammunition…
      It’s always like this. Then the retired Generals with locked in pensions pontificate and criticize when they are ones who let it happen when the wore their uniforms.

      1. The real issue is not funding an adequate defensive capability. Successive Canadian Governments since the Korean War have underfunded the Canadian Military. Why? Well, Canadian citizens have benefited from US Defense spending and their Government felt no obligation to spend to have a “real” defense capability. You really don’t think your medical care is really “free,” do you? Time to quit being a strap hanger and pony up, our collective patience has worn thin….

    Well why would we expect Dear Leader and his Crusading Children to treat our troops as well as they treat our Ukrainian allies?
    A nasty equality is creeping along here,thrown in front of a well armed foe and then abandoned..
    Worked for the “help” we are giving the Ukrainians.
    And will work just as well for our own troops.
    Naturally I am a little baffled by the military minds,don’t they study history as part of their training?
    Cause the Liberal Party of Canada has never missed an opportunity to betray,impoverish and deride Canada’s Defenders.
    National defence is a line the thieves spin,as they use the procurement process to loot the treasury.

  8. The mission is kinda stupid. Put troops on the ground so if they are attacked NATO gets big mad. DND always reacts. The CF seldom has the gear needed at the start of a mission. Now because of the bad press they get emergency equipment. Just like before, suddenly DND can procure a system. Nobody is trained on it, but here’s some gear, make it work. I betcha Trump broaches the topic with Zustin tonight.

    1. Unlikely, Pappy. DJT knows that Justatwit is gone in 10 months. Why waste the effort talking to a walking corpse? The only meaningful policy conversations with Canada will happen after the next election when Justatwit and his gang of zombies are buried by the voters.

      2. I know but Zustin went all the way there to kiss his ring. Trump is not vengeful enough to tell him to go to hell and close the door on his nose. So Trump can give him a message for his handlers that sabotaging the next government is not a good idea.

  9. Why are Canadian troops anywhere near Putin? We are not at war with Russia nor should we be. Ukraine and Russia have been fighting for more centuries than most people are aware of. Canada has no purpose or reason for being there beyond exacerbating the conflict into a much broader war. Canada should stand up against NATO for once and say “Enough”. The Yanks want foolish endless wars so the MIC can get even more rich and powerful. This Canadian wants nothing to do with such stupidity. No I don’t hate Ukraine or Ukrainians. A family that moved from Ukraine to Canada two years ago are the passengers in my vehicle every Sunday as I take them to Church. Three Ukrainians who have been here just under 2 years are in my truck as we head out to work Monday through Friday. I listen to their stories about family still in Ukraine running for their lives. My heart aches for them knowing that this war was started by the US and NATO.

      1. Why do we have troops in Latvia? We have no quarrel with Russia. My cousin’s son was stationed in Poland a few years back and I asked the same question. We have no quarrel with Russia.

          2. We went through this the other day. They gave Hitler the Sudetenland. As a result, Slovakia declared independence and Hungary threatened the Czechs. Apparently, if we yield to Putin now, someone will somehow separate from Latvia, and someone else will for some reason threaten her; and we, for some completely undetectable reason, should give a shit. Am I missing something?

      2. Many moons ago I had a Commanding Officer who said that America was a continent, shared between Canada. USA, Mexico etc. Therefore everyone in America was American. Thus we have Canadians and Mexican and Yankees (Yanks for short) because the citizens or the US were not Canadian or Mexican and the term American had already been taken.

    1. I saw that on another thread (MANPADS -> SPADS) and I wondered if any or every female soldier could operate one of those systems.

      All they need is one, just one female who can shoulder and fire a MANPAD and I will give them a pass on renaming it a SPAD.

      The mind wanders… Nobody else calls them SPADS. What if Canada places an order for SPADS and winds up getting WWI French biplanes? To be on the safe side, I suggest Canada order them by part number.

  13. This may be unrelated, but 2 Canadian soldiers working in the area have died of unknown causes in the past month.

      The Duran mentioned this after the Russian Invasion,said NATO would have casualties in Ukraine as NATO trainers and advisors got killed.
      And that the NATO militaries would lie,claiming training exercise fatalities,skiing accidents,car crash ect all happening to staff “on leave”.

      1. Russians claimed to have captured retired Leitenant general Cadieu. There has still been zero evidence. Add it to the list.
