Can Canada Avoid the 25% American Tariff?

For decades, any Canadian who … wait for it … cares about their country, has been pleading with politicians to do something tangible about the drugs and endless immigration that are really hurting Canadians. The response of Trudeau, and many premiers, so far: Not on my watch!

Brian Lilley and True North’s Rachel Parker discuss what could actually be done quickly to avoid Trump’s promised tariff. Three other folks at True North discuss the same.

  1. It ain’t Trump’s tariff I worry about it’s the tariff on our gas pumps. Get rid of the carbon tax…and I must say Pierre isn’t vocal enough about it.

  2. The President elect sends out a text and everybody is clutching their pearls.

When the governors explain to Trump what tariffs do to the State economy things will settle down. A 25% tariff will impact the gasoline price at the pump almost immediately. Americans don’t like high gas prices. That’s only one example. There are many more. Nobody wins a trade war.

We need to calm down and deal with it. Things are going to be different now.

    1. Trump knows a hell of a lot more about tariffs and the economy then you ever will. And yes, there are winners in trade wars.

  3. I actually heard Rob Canoe say something smart in the news yesterday on how to avoid the tariffs. He just said do something about the drugs and illegals.

    1. Concur
If the response to this is come up with reasons why the federal government can’t it’s a strong indicator of how much damage they would accommodate due to their TDS.
They would either let the country burn or alternatively insist everything is fine, rather than admit Trump is right.
There is a problem with illegal entry and the influx of fentanyl.
To say otherwise is ignorance or denial.

  4. Little Potato is going to run against Trump in the election, he has his media minions out trying to paint Polievre as a Trumper and therefore bad.

Little voters in canada will accept the tariffs and more if it can increase their hatred of anyone who doesn’t think like them.

    Tariffs don’t matter.

This is my fear/prediction as well.

  5. Trudeau as our Border Czar makes Kamala look like a genius.
With respect to Trump’s threat, why does it take a foreigner to tell our government that looking after our border and illegal drugs is what they should be doing? Isn’t that a major purpose of a federal government?
Eleven months till a new government.

  6. On this issue, Trump seems like the only person considering the human cost instead of just the bottom line. He has said for years that the opioid crisis kills more Americans each year than the vietnam war (about 100,000 people each year). Traficking? About 300,000 unacompanied kids are missing. Well, can you hear him now Justin?

  7. What’s going to happen if oil/gas gets a tariff exemption and the auto industry gets hammered? The Trumpster pits one major industry against another. Sets up an east/west battle. He wouldn’t do that would he?

  8. If Trump would build a wall on his Northern Border that looped up and over Montreal, Trawna, and Vancouver, his problem would be resolved … ours too. 🙂

  9. Can we avoid 25% tariffs?
    No we cannot.
Because Dear Leader and the Children’s Crusade cannot fathom that a man might means what he says.
And believe that when they utter a few platitudes all is well, problem solved.
    Trump,however wants results.
So we are FUBAR..Situation normal for Can Ahh Duh.

  10. Canada can easily avoid the tariffs: enf0rce existing laws. Trudeau cannot easily avoid the tariffs; Xi Jinping is at war with the west and Trudeau only holds a position at his pleasure.
