2. Looks like something from Canada. When did the navy stop having sailors do touch up paint above the waterline?

   1. Blame the environmentalists. You can’t paint a ship while it’s at sea and when in port, the measures to prevent paint from contaminating the water have become onerous beyond belief.

      1. And blame the paint … when they got rid of the VOC / Volatile Organic Compounds they got rid of all the chemistry that made the paint durable. Whether it is swimming pool paint or the lines on the roads, everything fails shortly after application because it is a POS quality wise.

         1. I can still buy “dangerous VOC” oil base paint in CA … but I can only buy it in quarts. The navy can dock in San Diego for repainting. How many quarts of paint do I need to order for the ship?

   3. Too big to be a Canadian Navy ship. Our navy has toys. I have a relative that used to be in the Canadian navy and he said they once sailed into San Diego and the top of their mast didn’t come to the height of the flight deck of a U.S. aircraft carrier anchored there.

      I believe the Lion’s Gate Bridge over the Burrard inlet waited almost 70 years for its 2nd paint job.

   3. This what American sailors laughed at when late Soviet ships looked like this. That’s not just a little rust. American warships did not look like this until the last decade or two because they were properly maintained.

8. That rust has to caused by all this extreme weather and global warming. You know, like constantly being bashed by ever-higher waves – even in what were formerly calm seas. And like, even though the oceans are rising just like Obammy said, I’m betting the surface water in those high waves is much saltier than it used to be because the greenhouse gases are evaporating away the percentage of H2O in the seawater.
