Glenn Harlan Reynolds- Elon Unbound
There are lots of consequences to this week’s election, ranging from economics, to diplomacy, to outright freedom. But I want to focus on one in particular, what it means for Elon Musk.
I’m super excited for the next 4 years and beyond!
I’m not sure that I agree with Reynold’s speculation that Trump would not have won the election without Musk. Certainly he helped, but the biggest factor seems to be that the Demonrats were speaking only about issues of little interest to the voters. The voters were predominantly interested in the economy and illegal migrants, not in global warming and racism.
But I agree strongly with the view that Musk, more than anyone else, has revived a sense of optimism about the future and about progress. The Demonrats offered nothing except increased restrictions and reducing human prosperity and progress. Being depressing about everything is usually a recipe for instant loss.
In this regard Trump and Musk are much the same. They both have optimistic messages about the future. Make America Great Again is similar in outlook to Ad Astra per ardua.
When Democrats talk about saving our democracy, they really mean ‘Preserve our Bureaucracy’.
A world where bureaucrats take from the poor and give to the rich, while skimming off enormous amounts for Washington pols (who are either in office or consulting for various corporations or foundations).
Trump and Musk will have a battle.
Someone should launch a new perfume line for real women.
Maybe call it “Musk by Trump, with a sweet whiff of Tulsi.”
It could have that “Elon Vitale” kind of vibe.
FTA:
“There will also be Moon flights, Moon bases, at least one new space station, and possibly orbital solar power stations and asteroid mining beginning within a decade. ”
I think he’s being wildly over-optimistic, at least concerning Moon bases and asteroid mining.
If Elon is lucky, he’ll get a man to Mars and back in his lifetime, but we’re many decades away from Moon bases and asteroid mining.
As Robert Zubrin has pointed out repeatedly, there is absolutely no good reason to put anything on the Moon, or mine asteroids. As Bruce Sterling has pointed out repeatedly, there’s absolutely no good reason to go to Mars either.
If eccentric billionaires want to spend their own money firing shit into the ether, Godspeed. But not one penny of public money for it.
I like the optimism in the article and lord knows young men need that.
In comparison, young women – esecially the whiteys – have been belly-ackin about Trump’s re-election.
Super negative.
Plus these women are dullards.
But the young men, they’re dreamers who want purpose even if its just a small, wee part in something awesome.
How great is that?
Musk is the great pretender. The Dope smoking transhumanist can sod off, take his self driving electric cars, brain chips and and go live on Mars. We don’t need him.
He’s not here for our freedoms.
If Musk died tomorrow, much of humanity’s dreams of exploiting space would become severely hampered.
If you died tomorrow, very few would even notice.
We don’t need YOU.
I don’t give a sh*t about you either.
YW, you win the thread for that putdown. So true.
Ahhhhh, Moron Molesky
Take yerself and go pound sand, JFK had a dream, and we went to the moon. Musk has a dream and will go far surfing said dream.
Hey GYM, how is your wife and Musk’s kid?
You and Jessica should get a room.
Other than some petty insults is that all you got?
Elon Musk is a Chinese communist party mole at best and a creepy South African at worst buying his way into the United States public purse strings. Elon likes doing anything that buys Elon attention. He doesn’t care about your freedoms and he only wants attention for Elon.
Whatever he spent on the election is going to get him a nice little return on investment for his own grandiose interests.
You know deep down I’m right and it bugs the heck out of you.
Har har!

Most people see that and are impressed.
Losers see that and whine about Elon.
ummmm seriously wrongo moron mole.
the uncomfortable truth for socialists is billionaires like Elon are the ‘canary in the coal mine’. his success and huge wealth is proof that the right combination of resources and ingenuity can, in essence, turn ‘dirt’ into trillions of dollars; THEY MAKE WHOLE NATIONS RICH IN THE PROCESS.
is it not fair that those entrepreneurs who really do make a dream real, deserve some larger portion of the financial return? and how many employees does he have right now brilliant engineers and technicians making billions in salary and wages?
we most assuredly need the uber wealthy like the railroad barons whose trains moved trillions in goods.
Elon is simply a vastly different breed than the likes of mitt romney who only shuffle paper to make their fortune.
Howard Hughes is also a great hero of mine, had he not suffered OCD like he did (and l also did severely for about 10 years and also long after) lm convinced he might have got into the space race as well. but he ACED aviation enhancements to the benefit of anyone ever flew in a plane and to this day we have the Howard Hughes Medical Research Foundation.
etc etc. take your pathetic whining elsewhere
I remain somewhat amused and bemused by my fellow conservatives who STILL refuse to believe that Musk is a loyal ally to the cause. They were skeptical when he bought Twitter and fired all the useless Leftist eaters who destroyed Free Speech. They didn’t believe ANY conservative thought he expressed. They mocked him as a government subsidy miner. They refused to welcome and embrace him because he created an EV company out of NOTHING.
I CAUTIOUSLY welcomed Musk’s BRAVE expression and commitment to conservative ideals. But I am now way past all my trepidations about Musk. He has gambled EVERYTHING … and won. Musk is a DOER … just like Trump. He creates something out of nothing. He takes a blank piece of paper and creates something of tremendous value. I challenge any of his naysayers to create more than a useless doodle on that blank page. And the dope smoking Musk is given almost no credit for being one of the VERY BEST business managers in the history of capitalism.
No … I believe in Musk. Not as anyone’s savior … but as a real mensch. A real trail blazer who risked EVERYTHING for throwing in full tilt with Trump. I can’t wait to see what he creates from that blank piece of paper next.
Once Starship is fully operational (which will happen a lot faster now that Trump is supporting him), it will change everything.
kenji, l stayed up that nite Neil stepped on the moon’s surface with the famous ‘one small step for man’ (n.b. NOT ‘a’ man which would bring focus on himself, but ‘man’ as in the entire species, that was just like Mr Armstrong the uber uber uber team player of the space race).
Elon is reviving space exploration, and lm gonna see it happen. he is autistic and has blown up the barriers and prejudices that come with such a diagnosis? label? how about just ‘we’re wired differently’.
l suspect the astute businessman in Elon KNEW twitter aka X stock would TANK. and marvel att he fact HE WENT AHEAD AND BOUGHT IT ANYWAY.
because ‘bullshit baffles brains’ and the socialists running things and filtering posting were what drew the advertisers. one of those notorious ‘mutual admiration societies’.
well not now eh? what is X stock right now? what is it now worth in dollars, and what is it worth as A FRIGGIN MOST PART RELIABLE SOURCE OF NEWS AND OPINION???
Never went near twitter pre-Musk. Then found commentary worth reading.
Elon has unquestionably demonstrated the best possible response to repeated encounters with wholly constraining government bureaucracy. We can kneel down and continue to suffer, or we can aggressively work to change it. Applause.
Twitter has real time peer review of every post by subject matter experts and people who understand logic..
Liberals normally get wood when you mention pee review, they should love Twitter.
Now “pee review” is apparently a typo, yet I think it actually improves on the correct spelling.
