In its monthly update on energy trends, Statistics Canada reported this week that this year, for the first time ever, Canada has become a net importer of electricity. The switchover in our electricity trade balance reveals the shortcomings of an energy strategy that now emphasizes decarbonization over energy security, leaving customers vulnerable to supply shortfalls and higher prices.

And this is before any switch to EVs, or any participation by Canada in the coming AI data revolution. The libs and greentards have no plan other than eat bugs and freeze in the dark.
“The libs and greentards have no plan other than WE’LL eat bugs and freeze in the dark – they’ll be fine.”
Fixed it for ya!
They won’t be fine.

So Canada shuts down its coal fired electricity and then imports coal fired electricity from the US. Makes sense? US air will have much more CO2 than Canada. Makes sense.
@Scar:
Sure does make sense as long as the CO2 does not illegally cross the border and make our climate change worse.
Don’t worry Kamala et al, will soon shut down most coal powered and gas powered electricity.
This is what happens when you let politicians and environmental activists plan your electricity system. Their agenda isn’t reliable, affordable energy – it’s ideology plus financial and political self-interest. Although they *say* they care in press releases, they actually don’t give a damn at all about energy poverty or the well being of the economy.
Politicians are mostly just elected citizens, and so they represent the average level of citizen knowledge of electricity of physics, which is barely above zero. And the lack of knowledge is due to two things; The schools have been hijacked and don’t teach the truth anymore, and the media lies to everyone constantly. The media will tell you that wind turbines and solar panels and electric cars are the answer to the global warming lie. So we have fake problems being fixed by fake solutions, all directed by fake experts and paid for with fake money. Real problems like inflation and crime and the collapse of health care is much less important.
Why is it that the experts are always the last to figure things out?
I resisted but now i have to believe the evidence i find. Their tripe is not evidence, but alibi.
They want to kill us.
Import electricity? PFFFT, minor inconvenience.
I remember PM Chrétien saying in an interview that Canada would be a net importer of food once we build housing on all the good farmland.
Hopefully we can keep the producers of all our now imported needs friendly towards us…..
Alberta was on the brink of electrical grid collapse many times last winter when the temperatures fell. At times we were importing 700 to 100 MW from Sask. BC. and Montana. My advice to all Albertans is to buy a generator that will be able to power a few electric heaters and some lights before next winter. I don’t think we will be a lucky this time as the fools that are in charge are putting up more and more wind and solar. Our society cannot survive without a constant base load. The only way we could make wind and solar viable is to back up every megawatt of wind and solar capacity with reliable natural gas or coal plants. In other words, why wind and solar?? Kickbacks??
Kickbacks? Yes, the politicians and bureaucrats are getting their palms greased. How else do they afford to live in the best gated communities?
Huh? So “Net Zero” = “Conflict Oil”
I don’t recall that equation being revealed by our so called superiors …
We’ll be importing oil soon. Oh, wait a minute …
SNC-Lavalin has been awarded a renewable energy contract to study collecting the static electricity generated when Trudope combs his hair and from when Freeland combs her back. Details of the contract not released.
Nanticote Ontario had the largest coal fired electricity generating plant in North America and it was demolished to make it exclusively solar by the McGuinty / Wynne, Liberal Gubmint.
It went from 3,964 MW of power to the potential of 44 MW because Liberals are retarded.
We went from the cheapest electricity in North America to the most expensive because Liberals are retarded.
The “people” are retarded.
N.B contributes to that imbalance. Our badly badly run nuclear power plant is shut down due to a mess up in repairs. The extra downtime is estimated to be 3 months. Maine, you will need to burn more coal to keep us going.
Heh.
Even when Canadians are freezing in the dark, they will still remain unable to figure this out.
Any blackouts and long shutdowns, will be blamed on “The Greed” of the utility operators and the solution will be “Nationalize the Electrical Utilities”.
Because the average citizen has no idea of the amount of government control and interference in power generation.
And government has no clue at all.
Of the effect of their rules and regulations..
They are just happy that they ;”Have the power”.
That we have become an importer of electricity says it all.
Electricity is the lifeblood of our civilization.
Lose it and circulation stops.
Oil is just as crucial, yet the blindness toward electrical supply and security is awesome.
And you can load oil into tankers for short term supply problems.
When the transmission tie points burn out, electricity does not flow..
Nameplate “capability” does not mean “actual power generated ” in the unreliables business.
And base load means nothing to your politicians and bureau chiefs..
“Mommy, what did people make light with before candles.?”
“They had this thing called electricity dear, where you just flipped a switch and bright white light lit up the room..”
If you do not already own a genset..get one.
