  1. If the purpose is to demonstrate our military capability, then maybe we should’ve sent a ship with, you know, something approximating actual naval weapons, as opposed to one that’s less well armed than a mechanized infantry section.

    1. We don’t have any. The frigates are hopelessly obsolete and when designed were unstable. Canada got rid of all its destroyers years ago. The submarines are barely functioning floating wrecks. The Harry De Wolf class patrol ships are barely armed with no ASW capability. The 13 coast defence vessels such as the Brooks have a paltry two machine guns each. Sorry to disappoint you. The average mech infantry section has vastly more firepower than one of our so-called Maritime Coastal Defence Vessels.

Neither these “defense vessels” nor the 6,000 tonne “patrol ships have any anti-submarine or anti-aircraft capability whatsoever.

  2. I’m not confused about the purpose at all. The purpose was to dock close enough to the Russkies so they could suck up all the sigint and pass it on to the chicomms. Joostaihn & Co. are getting a little sensitive about handing it over directly, so they’ve resorted to intermediaries.

  3. “capable, deployable military.”
    ?
    ?????????????????????????????????????????

capable of what? rubbing shoulders with the opposition in a foreign land?

  4. My H and A buttons will wear out before I finish my response To Willie No Notes..He putting up OUR Navy against the Russians? The Cubans could give us a run with their fishing fleet.

  5. …that Canada has a capable, deployable military? Bwawwawawawaw. Hahahahahahahahahah. Lololololololol! So there! Sorry, I can’t stop laughing.

    1. I, for one, am a proud Canadian today knowing our navy actually made it to Cuba. My heart if full.

  6. “…to mark 80 years of diplomatic relations with Cuba.” So we didn’t break off relations with Cuba when the US did. Interesting.

    1. Well, why would the government of Canada sever relations with tyrants when cheap vacations are to be had by canada’s citizens?
