  1. One could see this as a litmus test to see what they can get away with, and how apathetic the great unwashed truly is. I have no doubt that this is the beginning of the end game. It has been the desired goal all along.

    For ICE’s the control had to be put on the cost of fuel and the availability of vehicles. Then application of ever more intrusive regulations (emissions, corn additives in fuel, drilling bans, etc) guarantees more expensive operation and a smaller market driving up vehicle costs.

    For EV’s the control apparatus started over a decade ago when power companies computerized meter reading and external control of their product. Now, electric can be monitored and (cut off if required) at the flip of a proverbial switch. So, if they don’t want you driving your EV they can control that internally and penalize you for rather easily acquired documentation of violations.

    In short, they want total control of your mobility. They wish to create obvious hardships for those relying on personal transportation. And, ultimately, they want you living all in one place so Left leaning and ever growing tyrannical government has near total control on all.

    Germany needs to fight back hard. Although, I don’t think it’s in their nature to do so.

  5. And so it begins, the rise of the Fourth Reich! Naziism was not destroyed in 1945 it merely went underground and is now rising across the West. Political hate crime laws written across the West (see Scotland and Canada), required travel papers (see the result of COVID restrictions across the West), lawfare (see the war against Trump and dozens within his circle, the process is the punishment), surveilence of private citizens (see FBI and DOJ directives over the last 10 years), gun control (see the established laws in Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the stiffening laws in America), building civil unrest by unfettered illegal immigration (all the better to install martial law). massive inflation thus devaluing monetary policy, and last but not least involvement in formenting foreign wars. This was all put in place close to a hundred years ago but never on the scale that is underway today, anyone that does not see what is happening is totally ignorant of history and is willfully blind.

Just so that I understand this correctly … the Germans, who build the best cars in the world and have highways with no speed limit to enjoy said cars, are exporting their cars to North America where they are stolen and exported to Eastern Europe and Northern Africa where they are resold by criminal gangs whose members migrate to European countries like Germany to take advantage of the generous social programs that the German workers have to fund at the insistence of German politicians who don’t want Germans driving on the weekend because the Chinese are burning too much coal.

  12. This isn’t the first time. It was illegal to drive in Germany on Sundays in 1973, following the oil crisis triggered by the Yom Kippur War. I remember standing on the highway overpass near Lahr and marveling at the absolutely empty autobahn.

    1. I was there living in a town Weitenung Germany. Bunch of us kids went and play road hockey right in the middle of the autobahn.

  13. Most Europeans, Germans in particular, are natural born fascists. The state has replaced Christianity but the mysticism continues in the pantheism of pseudo-environmentalism. The notion of individual rights is barely present. Their conservatives are equivalent to our progressives/socialists/fascists. The lunatics of Greenpeace are imbedded in their culture. The EU has made Europe into a unified regulatory Gulag that will likely and hopefully tear itself apart.
