We Don’t Need No Flaming Sparky Cars

Electric cars will decide the outcome of the American election

If Joe Biden loses to Donald Trump this November, he can apportion blame towards his administration’s many unforced errors, from the botched Afghanistan bug-out to the mess at the southern border. But the biggest blunder of all has yet to fully reveal itself: the ill-conceived drive to push electric vehicles into making up over three-fifths of all car purchases by the 2030s.

Just last week the administration issued a draconian mileage requirement, one of many ‘nudge’ policies attempting to usher in an all-electric future. Replacing a massive $3 trillion industry with a singular technology represents a severe economic threat under any circumstances, but ramming through changes just as EV sales are slowing is nothing less than madness.

  1. “ramming through changes just as EV sales are slowing is nothing less than madness.”
    Or perhaps intentional catastrophic destruction.

  2. Pretty hard to achieve that when the manufacturing base has finally figured out that no one is buying them and its on the road to bankruptcies.
And much, much lawsuits as people catch on to how dangerous that they actually are.
That ignoring deficiency is catching up as Boeing is finally being nailed for decades of them doing it.

  3. The man’s a walking disaster and a pathological liar and un-indicted criminal. EV mandates are a sideshow.

    1. Yeah … but the article is written in The Telegraph so it contains two absurd quotes that are wholly untrue and reveal the bias …

Unsurprisingly, Trump has jumped onto this issue, issuing quasi-hysterical claims of a coming “bloodbath in the industry.”

Quasi-hysterical? Really? And The Telegraph claims the bleeding will be slow. So … bleed out fast and die, or bleed out slow and die? Which death does The American Midwest want? And why did the Telegraph not write ONE WORD about China locating their EV factories in Mexico? No, they have room to call Trump quasi-hysterical … but not one word about cheap China-Mexican market dumping.

It’s time to consider listening to consumers – who also happen to be voters – who want low emissions cars but are avoiding EVs.

What utter rubbish. Consumer’s don’t “want low emissions cars” … they want AFFORDABLE automobiles. Affordable to buy, and affordable to operate. THAT’S the reason hybrids remain popular … because they cut the cost of gasoline more than the average ICE automobile, they’re relatively cheap to buy, and they are built with Toyota reliability. Whoever wrote this article doesn’t understand economics or consumer behavior … but is steeped in elitist global warmist ideology. Idiots. The Telegraph article is written by a UniPartiest. And the UniParty is steering us off a cliff … as neither wing of the dying bird can tolerate a truth-teller like President Donald J. Trump

      1. I want a new F-250 for >$55k, same as the last one I bought. I wouldn’t turn down a horsepower bump and water-injection either. Maybe loose the f@rt-catcher exhaust system and the urea system.

New F-250 right now is over $100K. I’m not paying that. Neither is anyone else. Cars and trucks are sitting on the lots. Also, Stelantis (Dodge/Chrysler) yesterday announced they’re cancelling the Dodge Hemi. Perfectly exactly backwards to what the market wants.

What I don’t want is a wheezy little econobox that seats midgets comfortably and has a sub-2 liter four banger Mickey Mouse watch instead of an engine. And what will never grace my driveway in a free country is a glorified golf cart. I’m not having it. If there’s ever a Tesla parked out front at Chez Phantom, it’ll be because they stuck a gun in my face.

      2. Funny how the media focuses on Trumps “bloodbath” comments but are silent about the following comments that were quietly reported in mid February, 2024.

“Xpeng plans to hire 4,000 new people and invest in artificial intelligence technology, according to the company’s CEO, who warned of intense competition in the electric vehicle space which could end in a “bloodbath.”

He Xiaopeng, the CEO of EV maker Xpeng, said in a letter to employees on Sunday, which was reviewed by CNBC, that the company will invest a total of 3.5 billion Chinese yuan ($486.2 million) in the research and development of artificial intelligence technology focused on “intelligent driving.”“This year also marks the beginning of a fierce competition that may end in a ‘bloodbath’ (or as I prefer to call it, the brutal ‘knockout round’) among Chinese auto makers,” Xiaopeng wrote in the employee memo.”

  4. I don’t think Dems will lose, why:
    – re EVs they will increase taxes and insurance for gas-powered to even the playing field
    – coming Nov will be Fraud 3.0, it’s not their 1st rodeo + media is as always on their side
    – China always prefers Dems, it’s closer to them ideologically + Dems always screw up America better than any enemy, something like “if your enemy shoots self in the foot, let him be/help him”.

  5. Joe Biden has the backing of Joe Public.
I’m not sure which one is stupider.
Many freinds and relatives say “electric cars are the way to go”.
Clueless about generation and transmission limitations on electricity, also the very limited usefulness (uselessness?) of electric vehicles.
Throw in Joe Public’s belief in solar and wind power………

      1. One has a hybrid, no problems, even on long distances. One has a hybrid, constant battery problems. One has a relative with a full electric, don’t know how it’s going, but city use only. Many others don’t own one but are beleivers.
But they all beleive the MSM, totally.

          1. I’m reminded of the Aimee Mann tune I posted the other night … “It’s Not”

People are tricky, you can’t afford to show
Anything risky, anything they don’t know

The moment you try, well, kiss it goodbye
So baby kiss me like a drug, like a respirator
And let me fall into the dream of the astronaut
Where I get lost in space that goes on forever
And you make all the rest just an afterthought
And I believe it’s you who could make it better
            Though it’s not
            No, it’s not
            No, it’s not

    1. Re EVs are the wave of the future.

I tell everyone leaning this way that they’ll be taking public transit. Better get used to standing in line for a bus.

If re-elected, Biden and Trudeau will ban new internal combustion engine cars. Then they’ll very heavily tax existing ICE cars, plus impose high taxes on electricity. The latter to reduce demand for electricity and to replace gasoline tax revenue.

All part of the 15 minute city plan.

  6. Insurance company’s are definitely clueing in to EVs being dangerous as more restrictions like not parking in your garage and the infrastructure is far from ready as thefts of the cords and many recharging stations don’t work properly.
Soar power in the day and not so much at night to plug in your Electric Vehicle don’t quite make sense.

  7. This article is ridiculous and naive. People have, and always have, voted their personal circumstances. EV’s are a distant matter that other people think about.

  8. I don’t have any respect for most people who don’t have a driver’s license.
Some have circumstances that make it difficult to acquire, but many have no excuse – therefore its willful.
Its like not being able to ride a bike, swim, shoot a gun or, for men, wield a hammer.
(If you’re a man and swing a hammer like Juthtin, you need to be culled.)
    A car is a tool.
With few exceptions – she’s super hot – non tool users should be culled.

    1. “With few exceptions – she’s super hot – non tool users should be culled.”

Today’s ‘men’ don’t know how to change a tire, can’t do an oil change and have no idea where the air filter located.

  9. Look, I want an electric car, but I cannot find on that meets my needs.

I need an electric car to supplement my gasoline powered vehicles.

I don’t need an electric car with an expensive battery that provides 200+ mile range but require special and expensive charging technology.

I don’t have a long commute. I drive 5-30 miles per day. I want a relatively inexpensive, small electric car with a 50-60 mile range that can charge in a few hours off the 220V 30A outlet I have in my garage, or overnight with a 120V 20A outlet. I would prefer if it plugs in directly to the outlet without a special charger. I’ll use it for my daily commute and maybe a trip to the store. It only needs seating for 2 or 2+2, with the back seats being minimally comfortable for adults and for occasional use only. The battery needs to be safe and robust, with a long life.

I’ll save my gas vehicles for longer distances, towing, or for when I need to transport 4-7 people. I’m an American. I have three vehicles already, plus a restoration project car in the garage. I don’t need one car that does everything. If you want me to buy an electric, it needs to be better than other cars at some things, but it doesn’t need to be better, or even good, at everything.

    1. Do you think you are going to be allowed to have all those vehicles in the future?
I don’t think you have read the tea leaves.

    2. “ I want a relatively inexpensive, small electric car with a 50-60 mile range that can charge in a few hours off the 220V 30A outlet I have in my garage, or overnight with a 120V 20A outlet. You just described a golf cart … like most every Senior citizen living in the retirement community has owned for decades and decades. They even have special small garage stalls dedicated for them.

And the entire automobile industry didn’t need to get trashed to … accommodate them.

      1. Kick scooter. Solves all the transport problems.

Oh, but you need to bring groceries home from the store? Tough schlitz, peasant. Get a backpack.

    3. Your Helpful Government: “Greetings, Grey. We’ve noticed that you have used your EV to go more than 120 miles this week. This is in excess of your suggested user patterns. Additionally, we have noticed that you parked your vehicle for 1 hour and 23 minutes on N. Lion Lane which is approximately 40 yards from a political protest that featured hate towards protected groups. As you have violated your user patterns plan filed with your local municipality, and possibly participated in an illegal protest event, we will be applying the ration application of electrical current to your residence. As you are aware, the electrical provider has electronic monitoring equipment in place to determine usage.

You are free to charge your EV to capacity starting April 7th, 2024. Charging to capacity in advance of this date could result in penalties and fines. Additionally, you are restricted from travel in your EV until that same date, April 7th, 2024.

      Have a nice day!!! 😀

        1. Heh…well, it was meant to be satire. But, something tells me that most leftist politicians would see it as a job application.

    4. And why would you want one? Extra capital cost, another vehicle to insure, power prices that will increase without question. Makes ZERO economic sense.

  10. The Left will try to keep the EV corpse alive to a point of insanity, but it won’t work because very few people want them nor can they afford them even if they did.

This is all madness that will end badly.

Know this … there will never be enough electric power generated to keep cars charged and the lights on all at the same time. NEVER

  11. We’ve seen this movie before. Energy Policy Act 1992 comes to mind when the government invited themselves into the bathrooms of homeowners. Gov’t’s will simply legislate EV’s into existence and in the process slowly get ICE’s off the road once and for all, which is the ultimate goal…there’ll be exemptions of course but it won’t be for the Joe Lunchbuckets of the world. Mother Gaia is burning!!!
We’re seeing it already with wind and solar where no amount of gov’t subsidies (read tax dollars) is considered too high to achieve their idiotic net zero holy grail.
Can’t afford an EV? That’ll be your problem. There are currently 26 million cars in Canada, barring an other worldly technological miracle, does anyone here honestly think 30 or 40 years from now there’ll be 26M EV’s tooling around Canada? If you do you’re insane.
Owning and operating a vehicle is and was always considered a privilege not a right. Those wealthy enough won’t have a problem so put them in the privileged class, for the rest of us, who the hell knows but I have a feeling people won’t like it.

  12. I read on X that Shell in Scotland is closing 1000 gas stations and converting them to EV charging only. They revamp their shops to accommodate people waiting to charge, probably like a Tims.
It’s all pie in the sky. Pixie dust and unicorn farts.
One 350kw charger is like adding 10 homes to a subdivision. They will need thousands.
There is not enough power and never will be. ICE vehicles have never been as efficient as they are now. CO2 does not warm the planet. We are being lied to on an industrial scale while they spend our trillions selling us the climate hoax.
There is a war on for our private cars and they want to take them away. Because climate change. It’s all bullshit.
    But:
There are more of us than them. Compliance will just bring more restrictions, the line needs to be drawn clearly for “leadership” or they will be removed as traitors to their electorate. It’s happening in Europe.

    1. Consider this. Even IF CO2 does have a slight impact on global temps (a BIG IF), our own contribution is nothing but a rounding error.
China and India make up 40% of global contributions, each adding coal fired gen plants weekly.
Whatever reductions this country makes, are erased by the additions in China and India, and then some.
Point this out to the greenies, and they blather on about “SOME ONE HAS TO BE A LEADER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
It never occurs to them that foreign nations are laughing at us.

  13. I just needed to look at those who live on my street. There’s over a 120 homes and ICE cars, trucks and SUV’s are parked EVERYWHERE. In the garages, on the driveways and on the street. Families have cars. The parents and eventually the kids. Those have to be parked somewhere and on my street which was built on the narrow side that means driving up and down the street is always tricky with numerous pinch points caused by those parked vehicles where two moving cars can’t pass each other. NOT ONE SINGLE EV among all of them. Nobody here is rushing to buy them. None of their vehicles are high end and most are in decent condition. I’m pretty sure nobody on my street is rushing to toss their paid for personal transportation into the trash in the coming years and certainly NOT to exchange for a much less useful EV. It’s money they probably can’t afford to spend. So I agree 100%. If the Gov’t is going to push EV’s onto people who live on my street, which is much like those who live on other streets near me, there will be push back. The Media can say ICE vehicles are obsolete. They can say how great they believe EV’s are. But the Media doesn’t pay our bills. The Gov’t itself has broken trust with the people. Nobody is going to listen because they can’t afford to. Argentina’s firing tens of thousands of bureaucrats. Those on my street are ready to see that done here too.

  14. I’m not American but it seems to me the most important issues there are a) the border crisis b) inflation, and the homeless / drug crisis.

When it comes to transportation and the “high cost” of getting around, most people are driving trucks or SUVs, with terrible gas mileage, heated leather seats and sun-roofs. When that stops, they might start looking around for cheaper transportation but I don’t see it happening before November 2024.

EVs are coming and the infrastructure to support them is a Baltimore bridge situation.

  15. The world wide demand for Oil and Gas will keep rising. The US is bankrupt and everything they enact as a distraction from that reality is irrelevant. EVs will not take over because there will be no grid capacity nor infrastructure in place to allow the mandates to be achieved. Trump, if elected cannot reverse the congressional uniparty endorsed bankruptcy even if he wanted to which will be relieved through continuous inflation eventually destroying all wealth denominated in US dollars, hitting the lower and middle class the most. Old ICE vehicles will be on the road for a long time. Mad Max may be a prescient depiction of the future.

  16. Just wait until all the ev charging stations are built out and the electric demand soars. Do you REALLY believe more power plants will be built!? Puhleeze. First: charging prices will skyrocket to FAR MORE than the equivalent of gasoline. Next: They’ll just shut off the chargers during peak loads.

Why do I know this? Because PG&E already does this with our home electricity. They PUNISH energy use. They demand you freeze like every other third worlder.

    1. “Why do I know this? Because PG&E already does this with our home electricity. They PUNISH energy use. They demand you freeze like every other third worlder.”

I don’t know what thing were like in California at the time, but I remember well when the first push for propane powered cars and trucks was made. Propane was like 20 cents a gallon (litre?) at the time….then after a year or so it went up drastically. Next came natural gas…all the rage when it was dirt cheap, but fell off in popularity when the price of NG exploded (exactly like propane before it). After that came diesel for cars and light trucks…remember when the price of diesel used to be 1/3rd of the price of gasoline? Now it is actually *more* expensive than gasoline (puzzling, for a fuel that is so much cheaper and easier for them to refine).

EVs will be no different. The price of charging them now is relatively cheap…but just wait.

  17. These Electric Car mandates,Global Warming Decrees and assorted other forms of theft are but symptoms.
The Problem is Fools and Bandits.
People who feel they know better than you and I on the way we shall live.
This arrogance from the ignorant has not changed.
5% of people are evil (So stupid that they destroy all ),15% will jump on any scheme to enrich themselves on others efforts and 80% will go along to get along..
So we are gifted each generation with fresh crop of thieves.

We are living the end of the experiment, here in Can Ahh Duh.
