White Rural Rage

Those Deplorables aren’t bad people, they’re just poor and stupid.

[blah blah blah snipped]

The result — which at some level I still find hard to understand — is that many white rural voters support politicians who tell them lies they want to hear. It helps explain why the MAGA narrative casts relatively safe cities like New York as crime-ridden hellscapes and rural America as the victim not of technology but of illegal immigrants, wokeness and the deep state.

At this point you’re probably expecting a solution to this ugly political situation. Schaller and Waldman do offer some suggestions. But the truth is that while white rural rage is arguably the single greatest threat facing American democracy, I have no good ideas about how to fight it.

Chatter here.

How do they hate you? Let them list the ways.

  1. ” … white rural rage is arguably the single greatest threat facing American democracy … ”

    What’s that old French expression?

Cet animal est tres mechant. Quand on l’attaque, il se defend. (This animal is very malicious. When we attack it, it defends itself.)

    1. FILTHY Paul Krugman projecting his Cultural Marxism Bonafide’s.
Imagine being this Delusional, and that Arrogant. He isn’t.
He is Arrogant, and a Coward, but he is a State Propaganda Whorebag, paid to Gaslight for the Biden Regime

      He is that FILTHY LIBERAL

      1. Like all darlings of the liberal left, Krugman is adored because he’s always wrong.
And like Gore & Obama, he got a Nobel Prize for accomplishing absolutely nothing.

  2. This is the DNC Presidential election campaign in a nutshell. Voting for Trump is a vote against democracy.

PS. I still can’t believe they seriously are running Mrs. Biden again.

  3. I lived in Toronto for 25 years. Most of the people whom I met and even were friends with, think that Canada stops at the Great Lakes and then skips over to Vancouver. They have no use for people who live in Sault Ste. Marie, Timmins, Sudbury, Thunder Bay and the 3 Prairie provinces were just knuckle draggers. It astounds them that Alberta and Saskatchewan are bilingual (guess they were never taught about the North West Company’s voyageurs) and that the 2 provinces are major HAVE provinces who contribute very unequally to equalization payments.

I moved to Calgary in 2002 and am so very glad that I did so. It will probably never happen in my lifetime, but I would love to see Alberta and Saskatchewan leave confederation which they both joined in 1905. But for now, if both provinces can be like Quebec and tell the federal government to back off of provincial responsibilities and use the “notwithstanding” clause of the Charter, that will be a start.

    1. Funny story : I was on a vacation in the Caribbean. I was going on a solo shopping trip that day and was waiting for a bus with other tourists. I struck up a conversation with a woman next to me who was about the same age and accompanied by her little girl (about 10 yo). The usual type of casual conversation you’d expect. She said she was from Toronto and then she asked where I was from. When I said Saskatchewan, she pulled her daughter closer and she seemed to struggle for words. Really weird behavior.

Later I saw her again in a tourist shop and she seemed to recover her composure and was friendly again. Considering I am one of the least threatening looking people you can imagine, I assume she’d never met someone from Saskatchewan and felt uncomfortable. My friends and I had a good laugh about it at dinner. Do people from Toronto think we’re ogres or something?

      1. Many years ago in Calgary had a conversation with recent immigrant from socialist paradise, you may question here why he would do that, of the former Soviet Union.
As the discussion went on, the guy just plainly said that there in the east and Toronto are nothing but fascists.
He was new here so after explaining that this is what soviet propaganda does, he still was hesitant to dismiss his thinking of central Canada being fascist.

        1. Not sure about fascist but certainly bigoted and arrogant. Toronto and Ottawa treat Alberta and Saskatchewan much like England treated Ireland and Scotland in the bad old days of English rule. An abusive, exploitative relationship that fosters bitterness and resentment.

    2. I’m n the early 1980s, I cleared a shipment through customs at the Coutts AB border crossing. The driver for the load was from Toronto and delivery was Ft.Mac. This was six PM. The driver proceeded to tell me he was picking up a friend in Edmonton at eight that night and would be in Ft.Mac by ten. I tried to explain the reality that he had 12 hours of driving ahead of him and it was seven to eight hours to Edmonton. I even showed him on the map. He just got mad at me for questioning him. I figured out then that Torontonians think all points in Canada are just a 20 minute drive to Yonge St.

    3. They think the world ends at highway 427. Not the stupidest thing they think either.

    4. Alberta and Saskatchewan aren’t bilingual, all due respect to the voyageurs, who do seem to have been rather cool dudes. For that matter, Manitoba isn’t really bilingual, they just get paid by the federal government to put on a show of bilingualism. Of course, bilingualism, and certainly bilingualism in French, is not a sign of sophistication or merit.

Just nit-picking. You are quite right about the disgraceful attitudes of the easterners, which really are mindless beyond belief.

  4. From the chatter, Katie raises a good point about the uniqueness of this election. Americans and can now easily compare the two administrations back-to-back. Should be a no brainer.

      1. More blacks voted for the friend of the Klan, Biden, than voted for Obama. The quote is, “he didn’t want his kids to grow up in a racial jungle.” Inspiration like that led blacks to vote 120% for Biden in 2020.

  5. The level of prog tolerance inspires me ……….
At least Trudeau sums it up quicker . “Do we tolerate these people”.
Worse I’ll show this article to my urban Classical Liberal co- worker who is a good-sht.
He will stop after reading it, try not to process what he’s reading and still hate populism.
I’ll ask if he hates it enough to see people carted off in trains so to speak.
Just because they earned the ability to be individuals that think, and to be content enough with what they learned, and ironically honestly stand against many things him and I both dislike with a passion.
One things for sure Progs have taken the term knuckle dragger, to a whole different level but with a more certain result.

  6. Yet studies consistently show that conservative voters are happier. Conservative voters are also more heavily concentrated in rural areas and communities outside of the biggest cities. The idea of white, rural rage doesn’t fit with reality. Being angry at the political and chattering class is a sign of good judgment not rage.

    1. we should do our best to boycott their book. Absolute nonsense from people who have had zero contact with the rural people who coincidentally are the same ones who provide their food, gasoline, etc. classic Gilbeaut-Freeland Syndrome.

      1. Gilbeaut-Freeland Syndrome. I hope you don’t have that under copyright, that is a classic that will live on and on. Thanks, Millhand.

  7. Every political movement needs a group to look down upon so they can feel good about themselves.. We will fight discrimination with discrimination and pat ourselves on the back while doing it..

But for the government to get so deeply involved puts them in bad company.. Back of the bus, whites only water fountains did not jive with the laws of the land.. What do we do when the laws of the land no longer jive with the water fountain?..

No recourse for this discrimination, only hate..

    1. “Every political movement needs a group to look down upon so they can feel good about themselves..”

      Like Wexit for example?

  8. So that’s what a Poli-sigh ‘professor believes eh! And he shares his ‘knowledge’ with that kiddies that are there to learn something!

  9. “kiddies that listen!”, and where never told different by their parents.
They might not have listened , but they where given a true compass bearing to attaining contentment and peace in their lives as individuals.

  10. white rural rage is arguably the single greatest threat facing American democracy,

Apparently a threat to democracy now means voting the wrong way. But by far the greatest amount of political violence in recent years has been by black rioters in Democrat-controlled cities.

    1. Really? Did you sleep through the February 2022 Freedom protest in Ottawa? Trudope’s GOON SQUADS were the greatest political violence of this generation.

      1. The BLM protests of 2020 resulted in at least…

        o 12 people killed.
        o 700 police officers injured.
o $2 billion in insurance damages.
        o 10,000 arrests.

  11. This doesn’t have to do with the topic but how you present it.
, they’re just poor and stupid.
Why do you put something like this up? How stupid do you think I am that I would support the NYT.

  12. Okay then. So be it. White rage it is! Why would any white person vote for the party that hates them and wants them dead?

    1. The progs at the top already know how people righteously feel, they always did.
That’s why the social engineering they did started with such little steps, timed just right.
The hate was distaste was always there, they just hid it with words like , “tolerance” and “kindness”.
I just finished a book by Susan Cain – The Bitter Sweet ,not really about politics , but a term she coined “The Tyranny of Happiness” explains much of the shallow thinking that feeds the Left politically.

  13. When I was but a wee lad, I went to a small Christian college in Canada, where I met both (a) a number of American students and (b) a number of farmer’s sons and daughters.

It was an unintended education; to my callow astonishment, the Americans were people too, and as it turned out, all those hours of driving a combine and having nothing but time to think made the farmer’s kids some of the most thoughtful and rational people I’ve met to this day, and I’m retired now.

Only someone born and raised in a big city and insulated from country folk all their lives could possibly believe the stereotype that they’re all dumb hicks and banjo-pickers, but I still see these memes everyday on places like X.com.

Oh, and banjo-picking? Turns out that’s hard and requires skill, discipline and study. Just ask the comedian Steve Martin.

    1. Play the banjo myself – not and endearing hobby. My wife is not a great fan.
There are many great banjo jokes:
“A banjo makes great kindling for an accordion fire.”
The most rarely heard phrase: “That’s the banjo player’s Porche!”

      1. I went into a store the other day and left my car unlocked with my banjo on the back seat. Wouldn’t you know, when I came out … there were two banjos on the back seat!

    2. “Banjo-picking.” If the progs only knew that the banjo’s roots lie with the black slaves of America. So, I will extrapolate that the progs racist rot runs deep. Yes, I am being sarcastic but I’m only using their line of reasoning.

    3. @Garth – There are no dumb farmers. It takes a high level of brains, diverse knowledge, and a raft of practical skills to run a successful farm over the long haul. Even with all of that, there’s some luck involved. Mother Nature doesn’t always cooperate.

Dumb farmers don’t exist**. They don’t make it. They rather quickly become dumb ex-farmers. Even at that, they are usually smart enough to lease their fields to the smart farmers if they don’t sell out.

**Caveat: There are a few farmers that aren’t the sharpest knives in the drawer, but they do okay by copying the smart farmers.

      1. I’m a university graduate, and the only thing I know about farming is that I would never be able to cut it as a farmer. Those folks are truly amazing at what they can do. What really impresses me is their ability to thrive and survive on their own completely independent from the state. I’d like to see a city-slicker (like myself) be able to do that.

        1. Right on the money. Wisdom comes from enduring hardship and a good farmer is worth more than a 1000 politicians. I agree with FC – university, STEM is great, but it is no match for the school of hard knocks and farmers have to be really shrewd to survive.

    4. Definition of perfect pitch: You toss your banjo into a dumpster and it lands on an accordion.

  14. I watch a lot of podcasts on building self sufficient properties based on solar arrays and other technologies. I often ask my companions, how can these guys with Iffy teeth build these complex and Hi-Tech systems. And the answer is…… they took shop classes. It reminds me of the boys from the factory and farm in the third army. They could Jerry rig those Shermans, on the fly, with baling wire and chewing gum.
I come from a time when stereotyping and relying on caricatures was considered inferior.

  15. A little off topic.

Looking at the tributes to Brian M., my wife asked me: “What do you think Justin will be remembered for?” My answer: “The truckers’ convoy.”

  16. I’d rather spent time with the white rural bigots than the big city flakes, and junkies and homeless people that are every where. My dentist is in the city, it’s always an eye opener when I have to wade through the human waste that clogs said city.

  17. In regard of the second clip.
Isn’t it remarkable how the white urban fascists are opposed, want to dicktate (sic) the terms of their ‘Democracy’ and want to destroy the rural America because it does not follow their would be dicktat (sic)?
Though it must eat at their psyche that the absolutely crushing majority of Americans will never have to submit to read the garbage.
These two low lives would be dickators (sic) can’t handle the truth, opinion of others.
Let’s examine only one point of all the bullshit they listed, heh, they say that the rural Americans are violent or that they support violence. Was it not the urban fascists that burned cities, tore down statues, destroyed businesses and created a most violent mayhem in recent years?
Have the rural population done anything ever so destructive as the mobs of urban fascists?
Oh, maybe the does not count.

  18. At one time, it rather embarrassed me that I only finished high school. Think how much smarter I could be if I went to journalism school! It now seems to me that I am much better educated than many if not most college grads. Although my cursive could use a lot of work. LOL

    1. You’re smarter than most. Most have to go to University to find out how worthless their degrees are.

  19. How is white RURAL white rage different than your run of the mill white rage? Does it wear rubber boots?

    1. In Finland in 1980s it was customary for journalists then, born in 1940-1955, to diss countryside, farmers. Then the tide changed. Now they diss conservative, white, nonacademic men.

Same thing, anyway. It’s a process of seeking for a trusted enemy. ‘Rage’ is just an admission, but they still think they’re above us.

  20. North of the border here. We had a few GTA urbanistas move into our slice of heaven because of real estate market dynamics and a desperation on their part to get away from their particular hellscapes. Funny that.
After a few encounters I think I see the problem and I’m pretty sure it isn’t us and never was.
Among a host of issues they rely on us for convincing them that a fox going for a twilight stroll down the road is not a call to shelter in place is a bridge too far.

  21. Come on. Seriously? This is a Paul Krugman piece. Generally, the rule of thumb is to take whatever Krugman says and believe the opposite with absolute conviction. Of course, there are exceptions. Krugman has a habit of saying one thing in the past, and then taking the opposite position in the present.

Just a few years ago, Krugman was telling us what a fantastic economic system existed in Communist China. Today he’s telling us they’re doomed. Broken clock journalism…

    1. Krugman advised his leftist followers to SELL all their equities after PDJT was elected. They must have lost $B’s. And this is the man calling ME white and angry? Can you imagine how angry all his white liberal East Coast comrades had to feel after following his advice?

  22. It’s not “white rural rage” that’s the issue….it’s “woke urban stupidity”. Maybe its time to starve them out and shut off their power.

    1. We don’t have to … the white urban leftists are already doing it. However, sadly, they’re redistributing OUR tax dollars to the starving urban poor to prop up their policies.

  23. I read Krugman’s article. Interesting… 5 days after publication, and the comments section is closed.

Despite Krugman’s obvious political bias (Biden’s only trying to bring jobs to rural America, while Trump is a huckster from Queens — Krugman should look in a mirror if he wants to find out what a real huckster looks like), Krugman actually makes some sense in a warped, democrat-viewed universe sort-of way. Jobs have been disappearing from rural America, and yes, technology is partly responsible for that, and yes, people are angry, and for good reason.

You see, despite Krugman’s spin, the reality is that it was mainly democrats’ policies that took away the livelihood of rural America.

But where Krugman loses the argument as far as I’m concerned is when he decided, as grifters usually do, to inject race into the argument. Really! What does being White have to do with rural rage? If you were Black or Hispanic, and you lived in rural America, wouldn’t you be angry too?

  24. Every Accusation made by Our Progressive Comrades..
    Is their confession.
Particularly those accusations of motives most foul.
For only a pervert, with such filth foremost in their tiny brains, could blurt out such filth..
Think about it.Could you level insinuation of such base motives ,against persons who doubt your bright ideas?
    Of course not..
Such perversion would never occur to you.
A bloc of “White Haters” can only exist in the perverted view of a real White Urban Bigot.

    1. “For only a pervert, with such filth foremost in their tiny brains, could blurt out such filth..”

      This.

  25. Can you smell that?
Smells like desperation from the DNC to push this non-sense of a book.

  26. Deplorables.. Who have had their livelihoods destroyed by globalism and green regulations.. The transfer of money and power to large cities .. Who are also NOW BROKE..

Who’s the inbred dumb hick now?.. Liberals and leftists.. Drunk on politics and screwing their own brother..

  27. Riddle me this…

Two authors from the tribe write about White rural rage.
Ashkenazic people do not consider themselves Caucasian.
    Never have.
Their basis (?) on us Crackers is based on centuries of urban racist opinion.

    Anywhoo…got chorings to to.

    (sarc)

  28. Have you seen any late night horror movies the last 15 years? Besides zombies, the only acceptable bad guys are white rednecks/hillbillies/methheads.
There must be a hundred movies between the streaming services I have. All the same.
Young, urban, ethnically/sexually diverse group of idiots take a vacation to the country and come into contact with bad guys full of white rural rage.

I gave a few a shot but skip right past them now. Deliverance was a great movie, these new knock offs all suck.

  29. I am pretty sure it wasn’t the White Rural Lives Matter crowd that burned general stores and diners, murdered people who got in the way and looted everything they could get their crusty redneck hands on. I seem to remember it was another demographic and location.

  30. Maybe Krugman doesn’t know what he’s going to do about White rural rage, but the Liberals do.

Department of PreCrime. You don’t have to actually -do- anything bad, or even say anything bad, you just have to look like you might want to. You know, someday. Maybe.

Judge: “Why did you empty your magazine into the deceased, then reload and empty another into him?”

    Cop: “He looked shifty.”

    Judge: “Good enough. Case dismissed.”

  31. Is there anything white liberals hate more than a person with callouses?
    Its not just rural people.
And its not just white people.
Gee, lets dis-employ, disparage and dismiss people then tell them that they’re a threat to democracy.
    Tolerating liberals is folly.

    1. Spot on, Trump is ahead with Hispanic voters, and his black support has doubled. Those are extinction level events. I think armed with knowledge from his first term, he is going to unleash hell on those who hate us. Without RINO’s in his way, it should be entertaining. I hold out no such hope for PP. Ah the joys of being a dual.

  32. “At this point you’re probably expecting a solution to this ugly political situation….the truth is that while white rural rage is arguably the single greatest threat facing American democracy, I have no good ideas about how to fight it.”

Hogwash. Krugman has no interest whatsoever in preserving American democracy. Why should he? As far as he knows, Ukrainian and Iraqi and Ethiopian kids are laying down their lives in Gaza so self-hating diaspora parasites like Krugman can retire to Israel, and give up the pretense of giving a damn about American democracy.

The racists in the Jewish community are not patriots like Meir Kahane but parasites like Krugman.

What is the cause of rural poverty to Krugman and others of his ilk? Goyisch kop. Gentile brains, aka fetal alcohol syndrome. Gentiles are stupid because they are all alcoholics, and their children are brain-damaged at birth, because their mothers are drunk every day. They’ll never be good for anything but serfdom.

In the Ukraine, of course, the goyisch kop diagnosis was correct most of the time. It rarely was in America, where drinking to excess was seen as shameful, especially for women, and men were free and had the self-control to be worthy of that freedom.

But try explaining that to Krugman.
