Probably the chief lesson to be learned from the orc invasion of Ukraine is that there is very little lessons to be learned from the orc invasion of Ukraine. War in Ukraine is very much a cripple fight.
On one side you have Ukrainians, who are undernamed and under equipped, yet apart for problems with leadership perform admirably and are punching well above their weight from the start. They often have to reach for solutions that modern armies would not need to resort to. Drones, especially commercial drones are an example of that. They are like the Toyotas with a .50 cal in the desert. You use them because you have them and not something better.
On the other hand you have orcs with their general incompetence, and patented russian sloppy laziness often masked by sadism and brutality, and sadly, an ability to copy (with lag) the solutions of their betters. They too have adopted drones in increasing numbers.
But like I said, it is a cripple fight.
And it is in this context that we ought to view Ukrainian naval drones. So far they did not sink a single modern combat warship. They sunk old small warships and a landing ship. Missiles have scored the big kills.
Yes, drones will become a permanent feature of the battlefield but the way they would be used and countered by modern armies (and navies) will be different. Granted NATO is reacting and has been caught with a bit of a pants down moment, apart for Poland really (sort off, maybe someone else too) they did put on a back burner short range and very short range air defenses. This is changing very quickly and the days of improvised, home made/civilian drones are numbered. Detection, jamming, targeting of control sites are all being heavily invested in during the last two years. US for example is implementing a multi layer anti drone defense with everything from autocannon and missiles, lasers, jammers and drones hunting other other drones by frying their electronics. Expect those developments to be adopted by navies as well.
When we look at the Red Sea attacks, there isn’t a scratch on NATO ships patrolling the area either and they are competing with each other on who will kill more targets.
@C*shame*ista,
I though you’ve been ranting that “Russia has already lost” for two straight years telling everyone else they were stupid for believing otherwise?
Now 2024 is obviously the backpedaling year.
Kate and I agreed that I will not engage you anymore, so I’ll be treating you like I treat GYN from now on.
That’s too bad, i did nazi that coming, I was having fun, sniff.
I would say, the lesson to be learnt from it is the importance of situational awareness. It has been known, sort of, but apparently not by Russia.
@Surfer
I wonder if those new drones are going to put Ukrainian boots on Crimia any time soon – or – if they will help Russia decide if Ukraine can keep Odessa as their only port to the Black Sea in future negotiations?
One way or the other I suppose.
I don’t know about Crimea, but Odessa has already been decided and nobody was asking Russia. It is in part thanks to those drones that Ukraine keeps its shipping open and the Russian Black Arse (i mean Sea) fleet is cowering in Novorossiysk.
Ok, your the military expert we’ll all rely on you for the facts on this.

I think, but don’t know, if SDAers posted the story of a 75-year-old woman who was shot several times with a pellet gun while on a walk in the Malvern neighborhood of Toronto. She’s recovering, and strangely the Totonto police quickly caught the perp. He’s one Omar Saad: https://www.tps.ca/media-centre/stories/quick-arrest-in-pellet-gun-attack/
Did some Googling of “Omar Saad Toronto” (it’s an uncommon name), and LinkedIn has a Saad Omar the 3rd. He’ a master’s of engineering student at the University of Toronto (electrical and computer engineering), and works as a senior silicon engineer at AMD, located in Markham. He was arrested in the Malvern district, close by where Saad works in Markham. The name Umar Saad isn’t common, so it’s very likely that the perp is this professional, well-educated twit.
The attack was covered by the corporate media,mgivennits humann nterest angle. Watch the media cartel drop the story, jow that the perp’s name is known.

Still, Mr. Martin has Trudeau’s situation down pat.
He could always get a job as the Master of Ceremonies at a gay karaoke bar! 🙂
Martin was never considered much of a conservative here in Alberta. He was a city hall reporter for the Calgary Herald for years. His target then was mayor Ralph Klein.
He later wrote a defamatory article about another journalist and was sued successfully and, if I recall correctly, of wilfully concealing evidence. He is considered a lite weight here in the Province.
Since he retired and never got appointed to the Senate…ha like he hoped he would, he has moved somewhat away from incessantly pumping librano tires. He’d have been perfectly comfortable being the Bong’s poodle.
He offers good advice here to the Bong. Not that the Bong would ever listen to him.

Is it a sign that the tide is turning? Two supervised injection sites for illegal drugs in Ottawa have closed. The reason? health and safety concerns for staff, drug users and neighbours.
When the hard core progressives are forced into doing this, conditions must have been extremely bad for a sustained period of time.
“Two Ottawa community health centres have suspended their supervised injection sites due to health and safety concerns.
A note on the Sandy Hill Community Health Centre’s website said, “We must unfortunately suspend supervised injection services for the foreseeable future while we investigate next steps.”

“Oh, and as people rightly say, in Russia, all good news are in future tense, always.”
So true, making plans and lists is what russia has always been a world leader in. The results? Not so much.
I especially loved Pootin’s infrastructure and investment plans that he has just handed left and right. No plan on how to finance any of that or how to bring back more than million of most valuable orcs (oxymoron, I know) who actually can use a PC and who fled mobilization abroad. The whole speech had a distinctly Bolshevik stench to it.
