Budget could be balanced through staff reductions alone, easily. Cut 30,000,000,000 in salary, you will easily save the rest by them not being able to waste money, and the economy will grow as well, with less idiots putting sand in the gears. Win-win. The people who get fired? Learn to code. If not, the provincial governments all have MAID programs, best possible use for them.

So, paring down 10% of staff would save roughly 7 billion dollars. Cutting corporate welfare would be a few more billions. Halving spending on outside consultants saves around 8 billion. Defunding CBC and other media cuts about 2 billion. Reducing the foreign aid/investment/money laundering racket also saves billions.
Cutting the budget back by the first $20-25 Billion plus looks like it will be pretty easy for a new Conservative federal government.
Pretty easy is the problem. If you do easy stuff, it’s easy to undo. The parasitic class needs to be destroyed, not pared back. The cancer needs to be excised, not treated, or it will come roaring back. History has shown it doesn’t work, all conservatives have done is pause the growth in the past, never reverse course.
The Conservatives need only look at what the president of Argentina has accomplished. Can the CPC be as aggressive in Canada? Probably not but doing even a 10-20% of the cost cutting that Argentina has done would be a good start. Just returning spending levels to the end of the Harper years would dramatically fix the budget.
Life was much better, not worse, pre-2015 and pre-Trudeau. Going back is going forward for Canada.

Yep. I think getting rid of entire useless and redundant federal departments would be great. The hissy fits from the usual suspects would be massive but cost reduction at the federal government level is necessary. The Trudeau Liberal-NDP government has been recklessly abusing the public purse. There is financial malfeasance and corruption at all levels in Ottawa.

Well, there have been a few cases where Conservative governments have stopped the hiring and actually laid off staff – Harper’s downsizing of Environment Canada’s “scientists” comes to mind and Harris took a broom to Ontario’s transport ministry. But you’re right, these registered as mere blips, and were quickly undone by successor governments…many of them Conservative.
I have been saying what your sentence in quotes says for decades. No one has taken the action action needed to create real prosperity in this country or reduce government, in my fairly long life, and it does not look as if anyone ever will.
Downsizing and paring back are the same. Eliminate entire ministries, and don’t transfer any functions, just gone, root and branch. Sell the property, cancel the leases, and destroy all files, data, and records. Total destruction.

No, they can’t. The Charter isn’t there to protect rights. It’s there to give the judiciary control over the government. The Liberals can have no confidence in their control of Parliament, but they control the judiciary completely. As we saw with Stephen Harper, a Conservative government can do nothing but obey the courts.
