Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Hope Estevan has homes with wood or gas heating.

Winter – 7 hours of weak sunshine and the panels are covered with snow. And when they do produce power, it isn’t needed. I see the retards are in charge in Saskatchewan too. What about nuke power?
Exactly. No sun. no power.
It’s only a matter of time when we start to see headlines like this in Canada. Which is absurd considering Canada
has the third largest oil deposits in the world.
https://www.eutimes.net/2024/01/nearly-5000-britons-died-frozen-to-death-in-2023-due-to-high-heating-costs/
Even WITH sun there’s little power in the winter. The sun’s low altitude means that, for places like SK, its rays have to pass through a lot more atmosphere to reach the surface, and much of the energy is just reflected off the outer atmosphere back into space. Short days drastically cut that further.
That 100 MW figure would only apply when the panels are getting maximum solar exposure. So even on June 21 when the sun is at its highest, it’s still not directly overhead in SK. Too far north. So that 100MW figure is unattainable here. At any time.
Politicians and bureaucrats who make such decisions need to qualify for those jobs, just like pilots have to qualify to fly airliners. Anything less means disaster.
Total waste of money.
If we wait the CO2 scare will disappear.
Europe is learning this. Canada will too.
I thought saner heads prevailed under the Moe government.
Wind & solar should be outlawed.
Virgin land & habitat destroyed
The wiring is massive.
Non-recyclable
They don’t work for industrial power, fine for a farm for local power, not for the grid.
Eco-tards are destroying the planet faster than any other group. Ever.
One would think that by now this FLAT out Beyond STOOPID Idea of Solar panels in Canada would’ve fallen into the pit of Idiotic ideas.
Nope, still plenty of Morons who willingly would sign their own death warrants by relying on this BS to keep the lights on in 2′ fo snow & -50C.
One wonders who’s running the show in Regina..Scott Moe or Sask Power.?
Steakman it seems the idiocy never ends. I know I will be fertilizer long before the insanity really starts killing but hey, someone out there must have a functioning brain?
I lived in that area for several years. Estevan is one of the sunniest places in Canada so I understand why it’s considered a prime solar area. But, there wasn’t a single summer I lived there where there wasn’t funnel clouds and extremely high winds. It’s also prone to damaging rainfall, floods and hail.
So, in addition to all of economic and grid stability problems with solar power, Nature is going to beat the crap out of those panels (and perhaps being vandalized by out-of-work and angry coal mine workers). I give those solar panels about 5 years before they’re landfill.
Those who don’t learn from history…

My comment on Estevan weather is in limbo but, yeah, I remember reading about that hail storm taking out a solar farm. Estevan has the wildest weather I’ve experienced among the many places I’ve lived in Saskatchewan.
Actually, about six years ago that EXACT parcel of land was pummeled by hail larger than toonies. Wiped out all the crops. And then it hit the power plant so hard it broke windows and water came into the plant and the plant went down and the power went out.
So the question I often ask is – show me just one piece of land in Saskatchewan where you can guarantee there won’t be toonie-sized hail over the next 25 years.
The response is always laughter.
A few years before that I was in an Estevan power plant that briefly tripped offline due to an automated safety shutdown during an intense rainstorm. A crazy amount of water in minutes.
People have no idea how intensly storms hit the prairies.
LC Bennett, are we talking about the same storm? I’m talking around 2018ish.
When were you in Estevan? I’ve been here since 2008. We may have overlapped or crossed paths.
I moved from Estevan in 2005 so, no, different storm. The storm I experienced caused flooding in the city in addition to tripping Shand. A couple years after we moved, Roche Percee was flooded out.
Government phD’s seem incapable of deducing anything helpful from decades of past weather records.
When I-80 was plotted west of Laramie, several local ranchers informed the government surveyors that they’d chosen a terrible route, due to the heavy snowfall that typically occurs there, and suggested they move it a few miles north. Of course, today that stretch is one of the most treacherous bits of winter driving in the state of Wyoming.
“This new solar facility will play an important role in our path to net-zero by 2050 or sooner,” said Rupen Pandya, SaskPower president and CEO. “
I think I see the problem. Y’all are going to have to get right with Jesus and throw the “net zero” idiocy on the trash heap where it belongs. It cannot be done without nuclear power and as it was discussed about a month ago on this here board the Greens tipped their hand and made it known they’re not jiggy with that either. Net zero is anti human, full stop.
But go ahead, build your solar facility and we can piss and moan at a later date how it does jack sh*t.
Do I really need to comment. This will not stop until it kills the economy and people, lots of people.
Solar panels, today’s casinos. Same funding model, same damage to the community

Today’s worst environmental disasters are routinely the result of government policy.
Sounds like Saskpower’s board of directors need to be replaced NOW! Squandering taxpayers’ money on pipe dreams should get you fired.
NDP (oops, I mean Sask Party) government being watermelons, what a surprise. I’m sure the indigenous knowledge will break the curse of consistent pseudo-environmentalist and socialist failure…..not!
What is this, monkey see, monkey do?
Sask Party. A con-LIBERAL coalition!
I’m not surprised.
“You can not rationalize facts to someone when their position is based on emotion.”
Lieberals are guided by theories and fail because of reality.
Add to that that they never learn because for them history starts every morning.
I thought Saskatchewan was smarter than that. Apparently not.
If a bunch of degreed, urban intellectuals are imported into a functional rural community, the aggregate IQ typically declines by a dozen or more points.
It seems impossible to fix premier Moe and the Sask Party, or should l say Sask Liberal Party. They sure know how to waste taxpayers $. Time to give Moe and his corrupt Sask Party the boot, and replace them with the Saskatchewan United Party who do not believe in this madness.
As long as those planning these projects can tap into your generous tax contributions, and not risk their own money, it will never change. Wait, it could get worse!
The only way to stop this train wreck is to make someone accountable for this foolishness. Your Sask party mla is the best place to start. They have rarely been challenged in their careers and will feel the pressure if enough people get on their case! It’s their job to oversee the crowns and their projects, not to just let them run off without any accountability
As Lone Ranger said the Sask united party is a viable alternative. Their presence has been huge in the Sask party’s swing back to the right.
