A new American political year kicks off today with the Iowa Caucuses. Here’s an overview. Styx shares his early thoughts. Here’s a video about Iowa Caucus History. And here’s a bit of the history of Iowa becoming a state. While you’re waiting for the results to come in, here are some webcams around Iowa. And here are some more.
So, what are your predictions for the outcome will be this evening? (candidates and their percentages)
Update: Live Feeds

How many weeks will it take to count the vote?
are the dems helping with the count??
Apparently Dems & Independents can vote in the Republican caucus. Hijinks may ensue.
The dead vote will go to whom?
Trump in a landslide. Who cares about the rest?
My prediction? Trump 70%
Why? There NO viable option. None. If … if … you care about America
Expect Trump in a landslide as well. But I like Vivek. However, most of the media, from Fox to CBC, are totally ignoring him. I hope he’s the candidate next time around if Trump takes this election.
I’ve seen Vivek many times on Fox on various programs. Most recently, live from a convenience store which I assume was in Iowa, but I can’t remember.
He’s a great candidate for the future.

Agreed. This is not his time to be President, but he is far too intelligent and talented to not be offered some kind of role in a Trump government…
Vivek Ramaswamy wouldn’t last six months in a Trump-led government. Might make a good press secretary, but as an intelligent man, he’d clash with Trump a lot when he tries his usual bullying ways.
I don’t know why so many here see Trump as a savior, if he’s elected the same old deep state bullshit will happen and he’ll be once again thwarted on his agenda.
The U.S. system of checks and balances seems to only work when a Republican in in Office.
And YES, Trump would be better than Biden, who I think will suffer a stroke and drop out before Summer.
Sadly, I’ve come to agree with you.
Recall, after being initially sceptical of the Covid hysteria he succumbed and declared a national emergency.
Also, he browbeat Fed chair Powell to keep interest rates zero bound.
I’m of the view that the US and the rest of the West is toast. If you subscribe to “enjoy the decline” then Trump’s yer man. He’s extremely amusing.
Well Don, lets ask the obvious question, of all the republicans, outside of Trump, who will the deep state not obstruct?
Vivek took Soros money. I don’t trust this guy. Trump doesn’t trust him either.

He’s intelligent and well spoken. He’d make a great press secretary, until next time.

Vivek, Haley, and camel Hairass, are all ineligible under the constitution.
GYM:
That is a widely held view but is erroneous.
I’ve researched this while debating with a blogger about Ramaswamy. The candidate’s PARENTS do not need to be born in the US and if I’m not mistaken don’t need to be citizens either.
Vivek was born in the US, is over 35 and has lived in the US for 5 years. He fulfills the eligibility requirements.
The requirements to run for President say one must be a natural-born citizen of the USA. That eliminates naturalized citizens so it depends on the meaning of natural-born. Is it the same as being a citizen due to birthright citizenship? Many do not think so claiming there is a difference between natural born and merely a citizen. Why else would it be written that way? My mother was a US citizen at the time I was born (in Canada) yet that conveyed no rights to me.
Yes, the parents do need to have been citizens born in the U.S.
If that’s the case, and I would argue it is, Harris is not qualified and is illegally fulfilling (as much as she does) the Veep position as she is ineligible to be POTUS.
JSBach
Trump’s mother was born in Scotland.
According to your statement Trump cannot be President.
I believe the actual requirement is be born in the US, of parents who (at time of birth) were US citizens.
Nope. Parents do not need to be born in the US or even be citizens when the child is born, or ever.
‘Natural born’ simply means being born in the US and thereby instantly acquiring citizenship.
There is some debate in the legal profession but the consensus leans toward what I’ve said; the courts will not rule on this; Congress would need to clarify the confusion.
The U.S. Constitution states that the president must:
Be a natural-born citizen of the United States.
Be at least 35 years old.
Have been a resident of the United States for 14 years.
This is correct. The constitution does not mention parents at all. Puzzled where that came from.
And yes natural born as opposed to being born elsewhere and becoming a citizen — a naturalized citized.
Biden, 81 million votes!
Trump 54%
Nikki 23%
DeSantis 15%
Vivek 6%
Others 2%
I don’t know. Are there any safeguards in place to prevent Dem cross overs to vote for Nikki.
There are not. You can change your political affiliation right up to the day of the caucus (because the Iowa Central Committee pulled that legislation setting a date at the 11th hour). Additionally, Republican caucus totals are done in secret, and it’s nearly impossible to police all 99 locations. I’m thinking Iowa will be a hell of a lot closer than people think…. Maybe this close:
Trump 41%
Haley 37%
I’m putting DeSantis in the #4 slot. He really doesn’t know how to campaign, and his wife has turned out to be an idiot. No one trusts Vivek, but at least he’s entertaining ( could possibly finish in the #3 slot).
Trump needs to be stopped at all costs, and that means momentum has to swing early in the primaries. They need to set the tone today so that the true shenanigans that happen in NH aren’t suspect.
There are not.
They have to register as Republican voters. How does one tell the difference between someone who genuinely has had enough of the Democrats and someone who is meddling, however?
Trump – 56%
Nikki – 24%
Desantis – 13%
Vivek – 5%
Others – 2%
Trump 59%
DeSantis 16%
Haley 15%
Ramaswamy 10%
Trump 58%
DeSantis 21%
Vivek 11%
Haley 10%
going out on limb
trump 61
haley 16
desantis 16
vivek 7 . he has a strange name , stranger than obama
Trump will win decisive victory, 2nd , 3rd etc don’t matter. Vivek appears to work for the Uniparty , but slight possibility he was put in by Trump allies, maybe Desantis took one for the team and is a Trump ally as well, or he is just a really bad campaigner. Either scenario won’t change the outcome.
Trump (Because Melania) 56.5 %
Globalist Warmonger 21 %
De-Sanctimonious 15 %
Ramaswama Mamajama 7 %
Mother Goose 0.5 %
(Asa’s Fables) stretch
Your moniker for Nikki Haley is both accurate & priceless!
Trump under 50%
Desantis over 30%
Haley under 20%
Ramasmarmey under 10%
It’s over and Trump won biggly.
Iowa caucus winner has not won presidential nomination in 24 years – Trump wins IowA but is not the nominee – will be found dead with stripper
