Gov officials are asked about their own statistics showing a gender pay gap in Australia.

They end up being forced to admit that the entire gap could be explained with the fact that women work less hours than men.

Absolutely brutal takedown.

    1. It does look like they were trying to slip by a shoddy analysis. I’d be guessing they did look at some hourly rates and found out it didn’t support their pay gap foregone conclusion so they omitted the data.

      The lamest excuse she gave: just because somebody sits at a desk for 12 hours doesn’t mean they are working 12 hours…

      1. If companies could get the same productivity from a woman working 8 hours that they’d have to pay a man for working 12 hours then nobody would hire men. The company would lower their costs by 33% by only hiring women, and pocket the difference.

        1. If you could could slash the personnel costs by 33% and get the same work done, shareholders would demand all-women workforce. And in a way they do and that’s why most of the shit we buy is made in Asia.

  3. I’ve always thought this “women get paid less than men” assertion was ridiculous anyway. Even setting aside for a moment the maternity leave thing or the physical strength thing…if a job pays an hourly rate, the law says both men and women *must* be paid the same. If it’s a salaried job, you negotiate that salary so that both employer and employee are satisfied; if women are willing to negotiate for lower salaries than men, whose fault is that, really?

    Much ado about nothing. There are plenty of women who have climbed the corporate ladder already and plenty of men working under those women.

  4. Perhaps we should once again shoe-horn women into the workplace by legislative fiat, except this time, into jobs like resource extraction, super-tanker crews, sewer maintenance, iron foundries and bricklayers…
    When as many women die at work as men do, they can complain, until then, they should be slapped in the mouth.

    1. Yes, but what could be more mansplaining than a bald middle-aged white man telling literally a whole room full of women that their data analysis is wrong. Of course, what is more female than for her to then claim that even if the man worked more, he didn’t work as hard.

    I’d love to see someone do a little discovery of the salaries of these grievance matrons before the Hearing … and then expose THEM for the LIARS they are.

    In what world do two sets of books exist based on gender?.. If WOMEN really got paid less then nobody would hire men… Because after all the ladies are rather clever if it doesn’t involve picking up scht or taking out the garbage..

    Without the “Gender gap” these overpaid gas bags got nothing.
    No reason to be sponging off of the tax payers hard work.
    Fire 50% on day 1
    A further 50% every month thereafter.
    Film their faces as they are fired..
    Useless destructive parasites.
    A TAX on all do-gooders,would go a long way to preserving civil society.

  11. The flip side of the wage gap is the gender occupational death gap, which is >90%. That is, women die in a job eleven times more rarely than men.

    The biggest wage gap factor is that despite women work less hours in paid jobs, they have to cope a longer life with that wage.

    How unfair is that.
