      1. Improvements since the first poney cars came is on the better drivetrains (unfortunately they are more complicated thus more prone to high maintenance cost and more so you can’t lift up the hood and do it yourself anymore) also better handling, brakes and tires.
As far as styling goes they look better now than many generations prior (remember the Mustang 2?) but not as nice as the older ones looked. Today they look aggressive but fat, with too many lines and overdone, the worst being the Camaro…the best retro look is the Challenger IMO.
In detail (IMO): nicest gen. body styles:
        -67,68 mustang fastback
        – 67,68 cougar
        – second gen Camaros (namely 70 to 73)
        – First gen Firebirds
        – First gen Challenger
        – third gen. ‘Cuda (barracuda)
        – first gen. Javelin (AMC)
        – American motors first gen AMX

    1. Had a 65 convertible, 289, 4 barrel, auto trans, hell of a nice car. Always said it was my favorite of the 30 or so vehicles I had in my life.

  1. As said in a bunch of comments on youtube- I hate the glass EV style dashboard.

A mustang shouldn’t need some bs infotainment center.
Speedometer, tach, fuel level. Oil pressure and coolant temp if you want to get fancy.

        1. And it isn’t a 2023 or 2024 is it?

          I have a 2000 GMC with 260,000 miles on it. I doubt a 2024 will make 200,000 miles.

          1. Oh hell no. See my comment about the 24 below. Just commenting that my old 2006 beater and in fact, most of the Ford and many other brands products I’ve owned, have for the most part not broken and none have required any firefighting services. I just get tired of the “My gigantic multinational is better than yours” BS, even for things I don’t necessarily care for. I find it all rather cultish and distasteful.

          2. My First Duramax was an 06: Stolen at 629,000 Km’s
Now have an 07 Duramax CCSB SLT @ 489,000 Km’s.
            (11.2L per 100K – Hwy at 120)…not too shabby for 10k lbs.

Cant see myself buying or needing another vehicle in my lifetime.

            $ 115K+ for a 2024 Dmax….??
            LOL, As F’ing if.

BTW: Whatever they call that thing…it simply isn’t a Mustang.

          3. @Stealman it’s a good start, more than one of my old work trucks wrapped the odometer, one did it twice. That one needed a transmission once and I had to re-bearing the rear axle a couple of times. All gas engines, btw.

      1. 2014 F150 3.5L ecoboost, 192,000 km. Bought it to last 20 years, thought it would be my last truck. But, check engine light came on. Turbo underboost. Turbos and head gasket leaking.

Mechanic advises not fixing it. 6k for new turbos, but then the timing chain is on the horizon being a generation 1 ecoboost. 3800 for that, but on an old engine? Something else will give. 30K for a new engine.

New trucks starting at 65k. 9 speed transmissions now. Some are not even making it out of warranty.

        1. Would never choose to buy a turbo anything from any brand for long term ownership. Diesels are a slightly different story but they don’t rev out past 6k, either, and are more likely to be properly warmed up and especially cooled down as well. The original V6 ecoboost engines also had one super long timing chain rather than a pair of shorter ones so it does stretch a bit more as well, they changed that in 2017 or so?

  2. Ford killed the brand. Forget the EV with the logo for a minute if you can, the car itself is too expensive, too big, too heavy, and too hardcore to be of practical use. It’s no longer useable as a daily driver and has no sense of fun. Goes like hell, though. Too bad most of us don’t drive to work on a road course.

    1. I had a ’66 Dodge Dart with a slant six, roaddog. Reliable as hell. Easy start in cold weather. Paid $25 dollars for it. It had the driver’s side door crunched in a bit. I paid $35 dollars for a door at the wrecking yard. Pulled it and hung it myself. Crimson door, blue car. Easy to find in any parking lot.

My brother-in-law had his car go kerflooey and needed transport for work. I gave him the car but charged him $35 dollars for the door lol! I wanted that money back.

Now those were the days, eh?

      1. You should have bought lottery tickets. You had a Dodge that started in cold weather. Your odds would be better in the lottery.

          1. Didn’t anyone ever tell you guys to keep a spare ballast resistor and a nut-runner in a Dodge at all times? The only reason that deuce & a quarter slant six wouldn’t start was because the ballast resistor crapped out. Three minutes to pop in a new one ($3 or $4 bucks) and you were good to go.

Never had a Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth V8. I don’t really know anything about them. Only the six-banger.

        1. scarp
I’v owned several “eggers” (AKA:chrycos) never any start problems due to weather, cold or hot. But had to replace ignition resister in a couple of them. Loved the slope six, and the PU 2500, 7800, big bitch.

      2. Thats hilarious HR.

        I too had a slant 6 (63 Valiant), 3 on the tree.
I was too ignorant back in the day, of what regular maintenance meant…But still, drove it for 5 yrs till the Trans shat the bed.

        Called it the Bi Plane.

  3. There’s a lot of low-mileage 911s out there for less than half the price of that tank. AND you can put snow chains on em!

    911s pull better birds too.

  4. New Mustangs remind me of transwomen. No thanks, I much prefer the real thing.

    1. RedPop and all real-car fans on this thread. What will you guys do when, in 2035, the ongoing Trudeau-Singh government passes a new law abolishing conventional gas-driven vehicles for everybody (except executive jet planes for oligarchs and government) officials?

      1. Ha! My answer would be let me know when every single occupancy dwelling in the entire country is capable of charging an EV.

  5. The Toronto Fire Chief has the courage to speak out about lithium batteries, but the Dear Leader won’t care.

“Toronto’s fire chief says fires sparked by lithium-ion batteries are a growing concern after a recent blaze aboard a subway train showed how quickly flames sparked by a faulty battery can spread.”

Exactly. I had a young guy thinking I was some sort of automotive genius when I unplugged a wire and replugged it into the second terminal (remember when they started making them ‘dual’ resistors?) and the car fired right up.

Everyone else used a resistor wire, which never seemed to fail.

Great engine, though. I also had good luck with the Ford inline sixes. Unkillable.

    1. Local cabbies in my small home town used to get half a million miles out of Ford inline sixes.
