  1. Woke is the death of western civilization; Shame, they omitted Xena, Boudica and Joan of Arc from the female characters who are also cinematic heroic figures. History is a bitch to erase, eh?

  2. It’s fine to cast women in leading roles in science fiction, either as heroes or villains. It’s worked before, it should work again.

But you should do it because it produces an interesting story, but not because you have a political chip on your shoulder. Getting santimonious will not end well at the box office.

  3. Let me help interpret those quotes:
“and it’s about time that we had a woman come forward to shape a story in a galaxy far, far away.”

    what she really meant was:
and it’s about time that I came forward to shape a story in a galaxy far, far away. It’s all about me.”

Expect the movie quality to reflect that sentiment.

  4. Woke ruins everything – even Happy Meals. I was at a McDonald’s restaurant the other day and looked idly at the display of the current Happy Meal toys while waiting for my burger. These featured little children’s books with stiff cardboard pages, hideous artwork and “inspirational” titles like “I can Champion Change!” – featuring feminist pioneers.

    What fun.

  5. I enjoyed Star Wars as a ten year old, then I grew up and stopped caring about children’s movies.

    1. Amen Rusty…fantasy and superhero movies bore me to death because the skies the limit when it’s not earthly/natural/human. Special effects were cool and entertaining a few decades back but it’s no longer enough for me to sit and watch and more so be interested (entertained) even if the story is not polluted with wokism.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a good sci-fi if it has a semblance of realism…the best of those IMO is the original Alien. Others: Aliens, War of the Worlds, Blade Runner, Madmax fury road etc…

Just yesterday I went to see Ferrari (excellent BTW) but most of the customers went to see Aquaman.

  6. Diversity hires will get you diversity hire resuts. They ruined the franchise and are doubling down. They can’t learn from failure. They can’t even make something original and have to go back to that 1977-old well they poisoned these last decades. Special effects, constant action and loud music can only do so much to hide a bad script and an ideology primarely bent on destroying old male heroes over everything else. This time around, I think Rey will be too white, too straight and too ableist to be in the movie.

  7. “And we’re in 2024 now, and it’s about time that we had a woman come forward to shape a story in a galaxy far, far away.”

And that is where you will find the audience.

I saw a slide show of Disney’s 2024 planned movies. Holy crap they are going bankrupt. The only explanation is the people who work there hate the brand.

  8. Thankfully we still have TCM for movies, depending on the day and their selections for the day though.
