      Recent news articles are showing that many recent immigrants are leaving Canada. Many came here, understanding that Canada was a safe, fair, just country. Covid changed most of that. It exposed Canada as an incipiently totalitarian country.

Claiming that the COVID response is what immigrants are fleeing from is going to require a lot of evidence for me to believe and I don’t think that evidence is there.   3. Good video. Canada looks good in theory but the reality is much different. To me, Canada is in the same state as Saskatchewan in the 80s and 90s under the NDP government…hopeless and with no future for young people. Canada is broken. The future looks like higher taxes, worse public services, higher costs for homes, heat, food and fuel and, of course, increased government corruption. How citizens were treated during covid probably also increased the dissatisfaction with Canada.

    We went to a company function recently and a suprising amount of people who we’ve worked with are planning to leave Canada after retirement, only returning long enough to maintain eligibility in government programs and visit family. Mexico, Ecuador, Panama, Dominican Republic, Uruguay, Costa Rica and the US were among the countries that came up in conversation as destinations. And, yes, we’re among the group of people who have pretty much decided to leave Canada after retirement. A better quality of life, nicer weather and a higher standard of living than can be found in Canada.

        Besides, governments that lie, cheat and steal have no right to demand unconstitutional loyalty and patriotism. Especially after their policies of segregation and discrimination during covid. Who stood up for the rights of the unvaccinated? Almost no one in politics or in the general public.

        2. I am so in agreement. We are in the process of packing up now. Will have our pensionadio visa for Panama in Feb/Mar and off we go. You bet I will collect CPP – I paid into it for 47 years, and never took a dime from any other “government program”. When hubby needed healthcare for heart issues, the system failed him and we paid out of pocket to have him fixed, so no benefit from all those years of healthcare taxes.

          You bet I’m fleeing this insanity – and like you, guilt trips don’t work on me. If this is the mess the youth and left voting people want, I say, you are welcome to your ‘utopia’ – enjoy it! If I’m going to live in a corrupt country at least it will be a warm one where I don’t have to worry about the idiotic government forcing me to live in the cold with blackouts in January/February.

          1. I did take EI maternity benefits. Other than child benefits and the carbon “rebate”, we never qualify for any other programs.

            We’ve told the kids to learn Spanish. I’m sure at some point they’ll want to leave Canada too. I don’t see a great future for the next generations. Canada is in an economic tailspin and it won’t be able to prevent a crash.

            I’d prefer it if Alberta and Saskatchewan separated from the rest of Canada. Then we would probably stay or come back.

  5. Canada is better than being poor in a poor nation.. Beyond that Europe and America are better choices for a number of reasons.. Climate, economy and social programs, freedoms?..

    Seeing as the world has 3 billion peasants to woo into southern Ontario.. We have no shortage of new inmates looking for a upgrade.. No family, roots or opportunity you can do better than what 95% of Canada has to offer, elsewhere..

    Lucky me, I was born here.. A third generation 2nd class citizen..

The prospect of living in some disease-ridden hellhole such as most of Africa and large parts of SE Asia would be horrifying to most of the people commenting here on how bad Canada is. Not one of them has lived in a toilet bowl that is most of India or Africa or communist China. Or been an Uighur slave to the PRC. Or been a black slave sold yesterday in the Tobruk slave markets.

      Europe and America better? Only if you can afford it. It’s impossible to pretend the US is better to live in given the tens of thousands of street people and public sewage that is California. Or New York City. Or Chicago.

      It should be evident by now that SDA has too many commenters that are first class at whining and not much else.

        2. The problem with bringing in immigrants with little or no skills or education is that this isn’t the Canada of the 50s to 80s. There are fewer menial jobs thus less need for immigrants to fill them. Too many healthy Canadians don’t want to work and instead draw welfare . It’s the parasite class that the NDP and LPC continue to support. We don’t need immigrants or temporary workers to harvest food or clean motels and hotels. Welfare parasites should be doing these jobs or cut off welfare forever.
          And yes, the solution is that simple.

          1. Mostly wrong. There are thousands of jobs most Canadians regard as menial and will not do or are incapable of doing or entirely unskilled at doing. This is why huge portions of Canada’s economy is heavily dependent on migrant labour or part time labour.

            This is for jobs Canadians won’t do or can’t do. And if you try to force them, well, you’re just another socialist like was the case 80 years ago in Nazi Germany.

This particularly applies to things like professional fruit-picking. What is inexcusable is people like you making judgments about industries about which you know nothing.

            Instead, like Sporty, you want to force people to do jobs for which they are neither sufficiently skilled or qualified.

      2. No sane, informed immigrant would move to the US to live in California, New York, Illinois, Connecticut or Massachusetts. Thankfully there are plenty of other options. Job opportunities are plentiful, and there are many affordable places to live. Generalizing about the entire nation based on the insane management of three states is simply inaccurate.

  6. Well, in 2023 about 190,000 known illegal entries were made into the US by illegal aliens from the Canadian border. It would appear as if it has become common knowledge that “everyone” is welcome in Canada, and serves as a nice layover to reach their final destination.

    Incidentally, that’s “known” illegal entries. The true figure is likely 3 to 5 times higher.

  8. Sadly, the places to flee to dwindle in number. The US is failing at such a rate it is inconceivable, Mexico is in many parts a narco state. ST Maarten is a lovely island, but too small to be a solution for many. I hold out hope that the US can right the ship, but it will take Trump and a worthy successor 10 years of delousing in Washington, but there are still men of courage there to try. Canada has no hope as we lack patriots willing to stand up, and no model to work toward; it has been a vehicle for the Laurentian elites to run and rape for their benefit since it’s founding.

      1. Unfortunately much of Canada is unlivabley expensive and the healthcare is terrible. The US is much more affordable, particularly housing. Just don’t live in Chicago, NYC, Cali, or Florida. Come to think of it Boston is expensive too…

        Those Ireland numbers are of no help. I love that country for being a shelter from corporate income taxes and that’s why the per capita GDP numbers are so high. Doesn’t immediately translate to higher standard of life. Shows the flaws of GDP honestly.
