Details are now emerging regarding Google’s decision to pay protection money to the federal government. In something that seems to have come straight out of Atlas Shrugged, only media outlets who are part of a “collective” can get a piece of the action.
Google agreed to provide newsrooms with up to $100 million each year, indexed to inflation, in exchange for an exemption from the law. The company will negotiate those payments through a single collective bargaining group, which will operate much like a media fund.
St-Onge said the law allows any eligible media to join the collective, which could include newspapers and broadcasters, as well as French-language and Indigenous news organizations.
I imagine that Rebel News won’t be eligible or otherwise will never get a dime, but they’re just counter-revolutionaries anyway.

I think the word you are looking for is “complicit”. They are completely on board with the end goal, and like the whores that they are, they are merely haggling over the price.

Doing the right thing is not as important to him as doing the expedient thing, which is the one that profits him the most. I wish I could say you were wrong about that, Ynot…but I honestly can’t. No one who will actually make a genuine effort to represent the people who elect and support him/her will ever even be allowed to stand for election, will they?
And the money being collected from Google will be used to pay for the Canadian journalists that are in the pocket of the government, to the tune of $45000 per journalist on top of the $450 million already given by the Trudeau regime to their corporate entities. So this is the game – extort money from private companies reporting Canadian content, and use it to bribe the media directly to only report the Liberal Regime’s news.
Yes, it is extortion and the Trudeau government is a communist mafia. The next phase is Bill C-36 which will criminalize any speech that the regime does not want. It will go so far as to criminalize pre-crime – if you are perceived by the regime as a threat, you can be charged and jailed before you say anything because you might be a threat. I think that you can bet that very little of the money in this ‘deal’ actually comes from google. The tax slaves are getting shafted again. I am sure that the gubmint has google do some spying on its behalf so the money can be buried in those contracts. I echo what Codex is saying as well.
