You know for days or weeks your home is likely going to be destroyed? You can’t move your house, but why not move everything else you own? I thought Icelandics were so friendly and welcoming? Don’t any of your friends in another city offer you their garage or spare room for storage?

Someone posted in tips that Iceland had a magma dome near the surface and had evacuated the area. It made me consider how advanced we’ve become to be able to monitor such conditions and avoid or minimize a disaster.
Then I thought about the inhabitants of Iceland, going back hundreds of years, and wondered if they could read the signs of impending eruptions or if they were caught by surprise. Were there instances of whole villages and the people wiped out? Cracks like in the video? Sure, run for the hills. But a sudden eruption? Maybe all the wildlife left the area or something. I dunno.
There’s a reason “virtuous” Iceland can power 90% of their country with geothermal heating and electricity generation. You are looking at it in the video.
I listen to eco-nut-jobs in North America whine that with just a little bit more political virtue and some “free” cash we too could have a clean economy just like those wonderful Icelanders. As a geologist I could take the time to inform them just how the Earth’s crust operates, but I really don’t want to. Let them learn the hard way.
I laugh in their general direction.
Thankfully they haven’t yet dropped a bunch of plumbing into Yellowstone.
But the GOOD NEWS! is that Iceland is the GREENEST!!! Nation on the planet operating on 100% geothermal energy!!! It’s like living on top of Old Faithful!!
How you like that geothermal energy now?
Shouldn’t it be called Fireland?
Then maybe Greenland can become Iceland.

Iceland, a nice big island , butt she goes boom every so often. It’s a way of life for them. They are great people, and the Reykjavik airport is impressive for a country of 325K inhabitants. Helsinki also has a world class airport.
I haven’t been in Iceland since 1965. I can’t help but think climate change has much to do with this horrific temperature increase. I probably wouldn’t recognize it.
‘Climate change” has nothing to do with it. These people are living on top of a volcano! And always have been! Is this post sarcasm, or are you a true believer in the climate change hoax?
