If a frog is put suddenly into freezing water, it will jump out, but if the frog is put in tepid water which is then cooled slowly, it will not perceive the danger and will be frozen to death.
In 2019, then-President Donald Trump mocked the idea of powering our society on unreliable wind and solar power by joking, “Darling? Darling? Is the wind blowing today? I’d like to watch television.”
Now, wind and solar advocacy groups are advocating for this exact policy, but instead of being honest with the public about their desire to curb your electricity use when the wind isn’t blowing or the sun isn’t shining, they use innocuous-sounding words like “demand response” and “load flexibility” to hide their true intentions from ordinary people.
For example, Fresh Energy, a wind and solar special interest group located in Minnesota, says the grid of the future will need to be balanced not by building enough reliable peaking power plants to make sure the lights stay on but by charging people more to disincentivize them from using power during times of peak demand and otherwise controlling or rationing power to keep wide scale blackouts from occurring.
Don’t expect sanity to intervene in Minnesota any time soon.

The old axiom still applies. “What did communists use to light homes before they had candles? Electricity.”
Anyone who puts a “smart thermostat” in their house is an idiot.
Socialists might be successful in installing mandatory kill switches in all vehicles produced from 2026. No doubt it won’t be difficult to extend kill switches to households. Socialism by invrementalism.
All heat anywhere at any time from a central source can be cut off at the source, nothing is needed in your home.
Having a wood stove if possible is good idea. Living in a condo with nothing but electric power is not the best option but, here I am.
I call bullshit. But hey, it’s Elon, the solar power visionary.

It’s already happening in California. “Voluntarily” you understand….yeah, voluntarily until it ain’t.
The other thing happening in CA is the PUC … who are supposed to be regulating the monopolistic Utilities on behalf of the citizens … are actually colluding against us by allowing PG&E to gouge the consumer… to Jack up energy cost to the HIGHEST in the nation to PUNISH energy use and make the Utilities $$$$ rich.
Why? Because using fossil fuels are killing children and making the planet uninhabitable (sic) … therefore we all need a SEVERE economic disincentive to heat our homes to 1st world standards. Instead, we are being made to live like 3rd worlders … freezing in the dark. This is their plan. This is their orthodoxy. Punish energy use. Punish anyone who doesn’t voluntarily turn down the thermostat
So … you like carbon taxes, then?
What’s with this eff you? Kenji is correct. I guess you also have a problem with sarcasm?
Did you miss the part where he said. You would need batteries (LOTS of them)
I’ve got two cords of batteries in my wood shed and 80 liters of batteries beside it.
Do they plug in directly to your wood stove or do you need an adaptor?
Minnesota? Heck when I was living in Ontario, early 2000s, we had smart meters. It charged more for electriciy at peak times. So you end up doing your wash at night.
Ontario insanity. I live in steel making town in Northern Ontario. The mill is building a brand new arc furnace to replace the dirty climate killing blast furnaces. Goverment grants etc. included. The arc furnace will be operational probably in a year and a half. Unfortunately, there is not enough electricity to power it.
Can it make virgin steel, or is it for reprocessing scrap?
Unlike a frog, l think humans with an IQ above room temperature will know when their electricity is being rationed. Average intelligence people who aren’t woke will also realize why their electricity is being rationed – green energy mandates. Even brain addled German Greens are now figuring this out.
FYI, there won’t be low usage time of day periods once home heating, hot water and cars are on the electricity grid. So, smart meters being sold on the narrative of saving money by “doing laundry at night” are misleading. The purpose of smart meters is to implement the electricity rationing policy.
Saskatchewan and Alberta should never allow the federal government to interfere with natural gas heating and natural gas electricity plants. Soon enough the need for reliable, affordable baseload power will be rediscovered and natural gas will once again be considered clean energy in Canada (as ng currently is in most countries).
“Demand response”. Isn’t that how South Africa is currently dealing with their power grid problems? Will the populace grow to love daily 8 hour outages? I think not.
In the 1980s, Romanians were lucky if the power was on one hour a day.
It didn’t end well for Mr. Ceausescu…
As intermittency becomes more apparent the leaders will call for building more and more renewable energy sources to make up the short fall. The public, being unaccustomed to logical analysis, will agree.
The level of contempt that Climate Commies have for humankind is fast approaching the point where serious harm will be done to huge numbers of individuals through their intentional global sabotage of reliable affordable energy. Such hate for others and yet their language bamboozles too many people that don’t bother digging past the fear and guilt being projected by these evil cretins. Literally a bunch of lying pied pipers.
I’ve said it repeatedly … the eco-Zealots are determined to knock Western capitalist economies “off our high horse”. They don’t want us living as we have grown accustomed to as 1st worlders. No, they are determined to make us all live like it is 1654 … only … you can’t burn wood to keep warm as our poor unfortunate forefathers did. They want us all miserable and living much shorter lives as we freeze into an early grave. So … put on your mask, sit in the dark … you know where to put the cork!

Living off grid presents a challenge to independent individuals. Being on grid will soon provide a similar experience.
Rank(ed) Choice Voting in Minnesota:
I was hoping for some sanity to prevail on Tuesday. The second ring suburb of Minnetonka had a ballot initiative to ELIMINATE Ranked choice voting. It lost 58-42.
https://m.startribune.com/minnetonka-votes-to-keep-ranked-choice-voting/600318188/
“Though opponents raised concerns about confusion, cost and the time it takes to get results, Jeanne Massey, executive director of FairVote Minnesota, an advocacy group that worked with ranked-choice proponents in Minnetonka, said she thinks the system works for voters.
“Voters like Mr. Fredo Corleone were saying, ‘We like this, we’re smart people. We’re not Dumb, like everyone thinks we are! We’re Smart!,'” Mr. Corleone said as he and a burly friend climbed into a fishing boat.”
(That last quote may have been garbled a bit?)
Some votes are worth more than others… and the democrats want to keep it that way
“by charging people more to disincentivize them from using power during times of peak demand “
In Ontario it’s called time of use rates. On paper some claim that it has reduced electricity demand in Ontario. The reality is that what has reduced demand is companies closing and transferring factories elsewhere. Shutting down car plants, manufacturing and pulp and paper plants as has been done in Ontario greatly reduces demand. Demand now is 2/3rds of what it was 20 years and it isn’t due conservation.
Have you guys noticed the latest disinformation effort by companies such as Fresh Energy? Common sense need not apply. Just a cursory glance will inform anyone with two working brain cells that the current power grid cannot (in any fashion) accommodate the influx of electrical power demand should the the EV market actually be successful. Even without that increased demand a number of states in the US have resorted to brown outs to accommodate their users.
BUT, that hasn’t stopped Fresh Energy and a vast listing of the “solar/wind” brigade from telling you just the opposite. They’ve gone so far as to place free lance writer pieces in Forbes Magazine saying unequivocally that EV’s on a massive scale would not tax the power grid.
That’s a flat out lie…and they know it…and they are making a concerted effort to deluge the media with that lie.
Have you dug into fresh energy to see where their money comes from to run their propaganda campaigns?
Well, besides 19 separate government grants (which pisses me off)….private companies include Schwab Charitable (which is just a brand of Charles Schwab and a tool to hide taxable income that they set up in 1999), BNY Mellon (largest custodial bank on the planet holding about $43 Trillion in assets), and Fidelity Charitable (the largest grant distributor on the planet, and, also, where people put their money to avoid capital gains taxes)
I think it’s a pretty good bet that most of people funding the entities so that the entities can fund Fresh Energy have no idea they are providing financial support to the Wind/Solar Ponzi scheme
Lucky for them it never gets cold in Minnesota.
https://www.foxnews.com/us/americas-top-5-coldest-states-winter-polar-vortex-cold
The cold keeps the number of mosquitoes, ticks, and other parasites and vermin down. Not zero, but more livable than California, especially when you get far enough from the urban heat islands of Minneapolis and Saint Paul.
Nonetheless.. The green grifters will also go broke along with us.. If you think we will sit in the dark, we won’t.. We will be out beating, killing and burning things.. So much for entertainment..
Boy, will they be surprised when they find out that humans ain’t frogs.
Minnesota: old Ojibwe word meaning “where stupid white man shiver.”
