They’re just not that into Saskatchewan anymore…

Crescent Point Energy increases in size by a third with purchase of Montney player Hammerhead Energy Inc. for $2.55 billion. The company is in the hunt again, but its focus is Alberta, not Saskatchewan.

This is significant news. I’ve been saying for a while that Crescent Point has lost interest in Saskatchewan, and any day now we can expect the company to sell off its assets here. Note that both Shaunavon and Weyburn have rinks called “Crescent Point Place” and the lounge at the Estevan rink is similarly named. I pointed out in the story the company for a brief time was Saskatchewan’s largest oil producer. They did over 20 acquisitions (actually closer to 30, I believe), most of them in Saskatchewan, creating many millionaires and making a lot of people rich. But these days it is readily apparent their interest is elsewhere. The only references to Saskatchewan were, at the top of the list of highlights, that this deal “Transforms company into a Montney and Kaybob Duvernay focused E&P with complementary long-cycle assets in Saskatchewan.”

Also noteworthy – with this announcement they are increasing the Alberta proportion of their capital expenditure to 80%, up from the 70% from just a few weeks ago. It wasn’t that long ago, it was more like 95% in Saskatchewan.

So if you want to know why our drilling rig count is down so much, why $80 to $90 oil doesn’t have activity shooting up in this province – here’s your answer.

Also, Guilbeault says no more carbon price carve outs on his watch, as Tory motion fails.

And some nutjobs attacked a painting, in London, again. But since there’s glass over paintings now to protect them from paint, these folks used hammers.

If someone’s going to make billions in the lithium world, maybe we in Saskatchewan should put some of that in our pocket. One of the three active lithium explorers in Saskatchewan is moving closer to commercialization. This is a video I did showing what’s going on. Lots of cool shots of earthmovers.

  1. Let me get this straight ! A Party that wants to leave Canada the Bloc and their Leader Yves Francois Blanchet vote with the dumb-ass Liberals so the Carbon Tax isn’t removed in the West!
And then Steven Guilbeault says there will be no move carve outs!
    Canada has become a Joke!
    Free The West!

  2. It has not taken long for Average Joe Citizen to realize that carbon taxes are not a win-win proposition. As the costs become more obvious, he is coming to the conclusion that living a life of penury is not worth the faint hope that we will change the weather 200 years from now.

It’s taking a while for political leaders to catch onto this, but the gaps in their armor are starting to show.

    1. Yep – more carbon is likely created in production of electric cars than is saved in their operation even with solar, wind, or hydro. If electrical source is coal or diesel twice or more the CO2 of gasoline is likely produced. Every political solution of a real world problem has brutal unintended consequences. Carbon based fuel will be history in 500 to 1,000 years when we run out. People will refuse to abandon civilization because of fairy farts.

  3. Guilbeault has staked his political career on this issue. He has called the Bong out. No more carve outs.

He resigns and the Bong’s career ends.

  4. No one should be surprised. Quebec is all in on the green agenda. The have lots of hydro and the near theft of power from James Bay insures that they are largely insulated from the financial consequences. Of course there is no one held accountable for damages to the environment from hydro projects, that is a free be. As well they are likely receiving large carbon rebate cheques confiscated from the rest of the country.

    1. Fwenchie isn’t affected by the Bongs carbon tax. He has his own private cap and trade deal with California…nudge nudge wink wink. He also has an overabundance of cheap hydro power (how’d that happen).

You are probably right on the rebate cheques.

  5. Sodium-ion batteries have hit the market.
So far, they are about half the capacity of Li-ion, but they cost less than a third of the price.

  6. There are more EV cars in Quebec and Vancouver than the ROC.
Saw a EV delivery Cube van in TO, was it Purolater?
Tesla will build the $25k EV compact car in EU. Sorry USA, no cheap EV for joo!

  7. I keep wondering why we listen to a person with a criminal record and who looks like a deranged lunatic and keeps telling us that global warming is a war on our survival , when in reality HE is the problem!!! Steve O
