  1. If the Biden administration wants to curb Islamophobia, they will have to get them to be a little less Islamic.

    Sadly, she’s right – world journalism really has sunk that low. She then goes on to laud CBC’s ‘independent reporting’, specifically independent of government influence – well, independent of half-of-the government, i.e., the half not currently in power; I look forward with deepest yearning to a Conservative majority next time ’round, and P.P. keeping his promise (sadly defaulted-on by Harpo) to kick the CBC out the back door.

  7. We’re in France, don’t speak the language but had the muted TV News on — Gazans pretending to carry supposedly injured children to ‘safety’, people semi-nonchantly milling around, who, when they realize the cameras are on them, start overacting, wailing and throwing their arms about.

    I guess there must be some who fall for their BS…..just not us.

    1. Yes, all news start now with this kind of BS, at least CBC, CTV, Global and BBC News. Probably the others too. Sob stories “omg poor Gaza / humanitarian disaster” etc. Speaks volumes of the “journalists'” lack of competence, skill, due diligence, no ethics whatsoever. It’s much easier to go for TMZ-style (tear-jerk/click-bait) than do the hard work (investigate + check multiple sources + report the truth even if non-comfortable).

  8. The NDP apparently will support the Conservative vote on heating fuel, but will do nothing when the Liberals refuse to do anything. This is all pre-arranged in advance. I have no doubt Singh has been on the phone telling Trudeau exactly what he is doing.

  11. The meaning of a word changes as it is used. Often this change is organic or natural. Sometimes the change in meaning is engineered or forced. Consider the word “phobia”. An ancient Greek with “phobos” had a fear. Back then a fear of wolves or was often fully rational. In modern usage a phobia is deemed an irrational mental condition. Based on 1400 years of documented history, and recent news, “Islamophobia” is not irrational but completely sane.

    Contrast our usage of words “islamophobia” with “antisemitism”. Their underlying meanings, more or less are “anti-islam” and “anti-jewish”. But we don’t say “anti-muslim” and we don’t say “jew-phobia”. I think this usage is conditioned by our learned experience of the two different cultures. It is unwise to count on rational behavior of Muslims, hence fear or phobia. Jews may be annoying but we expect them to act rationally in their own interest, hence anti. No fear or phobia required.
