“We do not expect this to be the trial of the Freedom Convoy,” Lich and Barber’s lawyers said in a joint statement Friday.
“The central issue will be whether the actions of two of the organizers of a peaceful protest should warrant criminal sanction.”
Lich told a federal inquiry last year that when she told supporters to “hold the line,” she wasn’t encouraging them to stay in the capital, but rather to “stay true to your values in the face of adversity.”
The trial is expected to last at least 16 days, and is likely to include hundreds of social media posts by Lich, Barber and others, including videos that were livestreamed throughout the protest. Organizers used the live videos to document their experience and share thoughts and updates to supporters.
The court will likely also consider Barber’s private text messages with Lich, which were obtained by Ottawa police and entered as evidence by the Crown during one of Lich’s bail hearings last year. There is a publication ban on any messages regarding anyone other than Lich and Barber.

Another Canadian show trial. The judge, likely a Liberal supporter, will give a verdict and sentence that has already been predetermined by the Liberal Party.
Hot on the news that so many supreme court judges also seem to be heavy donors to the Liberal Party. One may legitimately suspect the pattern would hold in lower courts. Can anyone protesting the government get justice from a government-appointed and government-supporting judge? The legislative and judicial branches are not as independent of each other as they ought to be.
The judge in this case does not appear to be a donor to the liberal party, either federally or provincially in ontario (the search for both is not as easy to navigate as the US one)

The judge for her original hearing was a failed Liberal candidate for parliament, endorsed by JT in that campaign. Don’t know the background of this judge. As impartial as Johnson was – the one who was a business partner of Trudeau Sr and Jean Chretien?

The media is already slurring her again, calling her the organizer of the “so-called ‘Freedom Convoy’ that gridlocked Ottawa for three weeks.”
So- Called has to be in there. She was not the organizer – just became the public face of the Convoy. It was a grassroots movement from all over Canada, and although she was often able to persuade others, nobody was “in charge.”
They kept an emergency lane open on every street except one – the Quebec truckers would not comply with Tamara’s wishes to keep a lane open.
Even the election of a solidly conservative government for 10 years would not clear the rot out of our institutions. Although JT is the poster boy for much that is wrong in Canada, the problems go far deeper than one person.
Excellent point about being the face of the convoy as opposed to an organizer. The protest was literally an organic movement, with each individual deciding independently whether to be part of the protest or not. It’s grossly unfair that she is now portrayed as a leader with near dictatorial powers over all the other protesters.
As far as I’m concerned she is a Canadian Hero, and a political prisoner. She will always have my support. However, most posters above are correct, she will be vilified and railroaded, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they lock her up. This is where we are in this once democratic free country. I do wonder if there will be a backlash or some kind of revolt (small scale) if she is imprisoned!

There are protests in Ottawa all the time. Does anyone remember another protest where the organizers were hauled into court? Outrageous really, especially given the level of support the Convoy had, They had a lot of support right across Canada. Penalizing them for organizing the protest is anti-democratic.
The chances of Lich and Barber getting a fair trial are pretty slim. Lich will probably get the harder hit as she’s been more vocal and even appeared on American talk shows, Barber is relatively obscure.
The only possible way a fair trial will occur is if the Judge is one of those Liberals who is sick of Trudeau and wants to get rid of him.
I doubt if either will get jail time though, it would be a nasty reminder of how dictatorial Trudeau is and the opps could use it against him during the next election campaign.

As a donor to the Freedom Convoy I was not happy to see our banks seize our bank accounts. Freezing people’s funds leading to problems in mortgages and basic home finances was sickening and truly frightening. Tamara’s book should be required reading in our schools but never happening with our super lefty teachers and their unions.
Belittling Tamara by forcing her to appear in court wearing shackles was disgusting especially for being charged with mischief. What did these liberal thugs think she was going to do?

The MSM and eastern Canada never understood what the protest was about. Couldn’t comprehend what was going on. They were bewildered and said things like, “Why are they angry?”
At the outset of the rally the protesters had widespread public support. Service clubs organized meals and places for the truckers to relax. Families cheered and waived flags from overpasses and roadside as the convoy rolled by.
Momentum grew and once the convoy hit the Manitoba border you could sense change was taking place. The government must have sensed this might not be the standard Ottawa protest. The tone of the media became more shrill as the protest neared it’s destination. Public opinion influenced by negative press turned public support 180 degrees. By the time the protest got to Ottawa they no longer enjoyed widespread endorsement. It went south from there.
I expect Lich to be convicted. Nothing less will satisfy the government, press or much of the public. Lich is a difficult person to imagine as a threat to anyone but she will be made an example of imo. The J6 trials in the US are producing remarkable sentences. 20+ years in some cases. My guess is a severe sentence for Lich. I hope I’m wrong.
