The Court Of Librano’s Bench

National Post;

At least six current superior court justices may have paid to meet with the prime minister or the deputy prime minister at Liberal Party fundraisers shortly before being appointed.

These findings come in the wake of an earlier analysis by the National Post and the Investigative Journalism Foundation (IJF), which found that over three times as many Liberal party donors have been appointed to judicial office than Conservative donors since 2016.

The IJF and the Post matched the names and cities of federally appointed judges from the government’s Orders in Council database against fundraiser attendance lists from Elections Canada’s Regulated Fundraising Events Registry (covering 2019 to the present) and historical event records posted on the Liberal party’s website. All federal fundraisers with tickets over $200 and featuring a party leader, cabinet minister, or leadership contestant must be reported to Elections Canada.

Persons with similar names of three federally appointed judges to Alberta’s superior trial court appear on the fundraising registry. A Robert Armstrong and Michel Bourque, both of Calgary, attended several fundraisers with high-level cabinet members — sometimes together — with their last attendance at events just a couple months before judges with similar names were appointed to Alberta’s Court of King’s Bench. Robert W. Armstrong of Calgary was appointed to the bench in February 2021 while Michel H. Bourque, also of Calgary, was appointed in December 2021.

@RealAndyLeeShow – Congratulations to Judge Jason Howie, a long-time Conservative Party donor, for his appointment to the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario after switching sides to donate $1799.78 to the Liberal Party of Canada in 2023.

  2. “All federal fundraisers with tickets over $200 and featuring a party leader, cabinet minister, or leadership contestant must be reported to Elections Canada.”

How many do they run for less than $200?

  3. The real 1% is the fact that only 1% of the dirty, double-dealing backstabbing deals ever come to light.
    1%??? what was I thinkin’? 0.01%

  4. In real countries you’d expect that to be making headlines in all the papers.

Well to be fair I haven’t looked at the other papers, I just expect it’d be “well reported”

and people thought I was joking when I said to buy a Liberal Party of Canada membership if they ever find themselves in deep federal level poop.

  5. “None of the three Alberta judges responded to multiple attempts from the Post and the IJF to reach them to confirm that they were the attendees in question. The IJF and the Post also contacted the judges via the court itself. A spokesperson for the court confirmed the questions were forwarded onto the judges giving them the opportunity to respond if desired.”

  6. I can tell you, for a fact, that many of our Justices (“Judges” for those who prefer the American vernacular) are appointed through donations and political favours.

    This is one such story.

Many years back, when work would bring me to southwestern Ontario, specifically Middlesex country, there was one particular Justice who was granted a seat because of large donations he made to a then-sitting Liberal MP.

Before the appointment, he was responsible for overseeing a family owned construction business where he, his father and brother built townhouses in favorable areas by greasing the hands of the municipality.

That was shortly before 2010 and, as of today, he continues to work as a Justice despite beginning to wind down his responsibilities.

It was an open secret with many Lawyers, Crown and Defense, fighting to have their cases tried by him.

  7. I remember the same type of story posted here several years ago relating to Saskatchewan judges and Liberal donations.

Canada is as corrupt as any third world craphole. And getting worse.

  8. Restore CSA.
And we still act surprised that our “Judges” are corrupt?
That they are not even trying to hide their conflicts of interest, tells you what the future will hold.

That “long march through the institutions” does not lead to power and control, for those who seek to rule..
It leads to chaos and destruction.
For these frightened fools destroy the very institutions that protect their graft,in their lust to control us all.
    Frightened fools.

Knowing that we have no rights nor freedoms as individuals in Can Ahh Duh (Should our government be in a state of panic) and knowing the Justice System is controlled by Political Appointees,as restore CSA hammered home.

An individual must reassess their patriotism.

This is a State that ethically I must seek to destroy.

  9. Well, for $1,800, there is now a life-long conservative on the bench. He figured out how to play the game. Pretty smart, I’d say.

  10. “Mr. Dennis O’Leary, a Hamilton lawyer, was appointed by the federal government to the Ontario Supreme Court in 1973. O’Leary had been a member of the Hamilton Mountain Federal Liberal Riding Association, was a former Liberal candidate, and appeared on another list as a contriburor of $500 to John Munro’s 1972 campaign.”
“Mr. F. J. Weatherstone, a prominent Hamilton lawyer, gave $500 to Munro’s campaign and his law firm gave another $500. On one occasion he ran provincially for the Liberal Party and was a dedicated party worker. In December 1973 he was appointed to the Ontario Supreme Court.”
