  1. Let’s ban MALES too…
Certainly Mayor Chow has declared this in Toronto with their violent nature’s.

    1. First things first. A city wide ban on two stroke leaf blowers is her number one concern… transit safety etc. will just have to wait. She has priorities.

      1. What about raccoon farts? We’re all gonna die if it doesn’t cease in 30 minutes!!!

The water is rising in Miami because of that alone!!!

  2. Iconic image. Plastic syringes spilling out of a plastic pail in a city that banned plastic straws.

    1. The resulting epidemic of HIV, hepatitis, and other septic infections definitely thin the herd.

  3. Back in the early-mid 90s I remember then (R)Edmonton being with way safer streets (besides along 118 Ave) & tons less lunatics. Good job progs…

  4. If you go to Tim Horton’s or McDonalds and order an iced coffee it comes in a plastic cup, with a paper straw. I think they’re trolling the government since sodas come in paper cups and there is no reason that an iced coffee couldn’t be packaged the same way.

  5. Who would pick up that toxic mess without plastic gloves, a washable plastic broom/dustpan and a plastic bag? Brown paper bags tend to break, as we learned in the 1950s.

  6. The medical waste folks are too busy with the tent people, and are having problems finding EV charging stations.

Where, exactly, does medical waste go? Normal landfills, I suspect? Oh, they burn it – environmental naughty.

    1. Back in the day, every hospital had incinerator that could take a matress.
Now the dead go out in black soccer mom mini-vans.

  7. Ohhhhhhhhh mommaaaaaaa …
More plastic destined for “The GIANT swirling plastic patch, the size of Texas, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean”.

    Right?

You know … the invisible GIANT plastic patch that gave rise to micro-plastics “that can now be seen in your child’s fetal blood!” Ohhhhhhhhhhhh mommmmaaaaaa … nano-plastics are killing us all …

  8. Y’know…sometimes I wonder if Jefferson Starship still has We Built This City on their song list when touring. And yes they do tour. Things I think about from time to time.
Well done Slick. While you’re on a roll is there anything else you’d like to take credit for?

    1. Well … at least the white suburban Dead Heads (who helped build the city on Rock and Roll) were civilized enough to use the porta potties.

  9. I’d rather deal with plastic straws and bags. Much less risk of HIV and hep C.

  10. I’m genuinely curious (no snark); how did all those sharps containers get out onto the street? In any case they’re supposed to be sealed…only depositing possible. Very strange; is it possible it was staged? I’m serious, not being sarcastic.
(It’s not only addicts who need access to sharps containers; insulin users do as well)

  11. Currently in Vegas and we’re smuggling plastic bags back. I hate Canada so much under this regime.

    1. I hoarded free BC heavy duty liquor bags, which are washable, for a few years.

California still has plastic bags, albeit for 5 cents.

    2. I went to Merchant Paper supply in Windsor, Ontario and bought my wife a box of 1000 plastic bags. Christmas 2022. Who says romance is dead? (my wife). Search out a wholesale supply company and see what they have to offer. Your special lady can feel self same joy.

  12. As someone recently commented, (sorry don’t remember who) We grocery shop for everything wrapped in plastic. Our meat and cheese, our frozen goods, our pharmacy stuff, our cereals bread, and even place our veggies in cheap weak individual plastic bags for the checkout. But heaven help us, we need reusable cloth bags or store purchased reusable bags to carry our groceries out of the store….sigh!

    1. It’s back to the 50’s futuro world, brought to you by TrudyLibs SinghDippers

    2. First of all, most of those cheap individual bags are almost good for nothing, except throwing out stuff that you forgot to eat into general garbage. Paper bags, even with handles, are not very useful, except for light-weight paper.

Bread bags can be reused, if one only needs to freeze 1/2 loaf and re-used for the next loaf. I never owned a single use plastic bag EVER. They all became at least 2- use bathroom, den, and bedroom waste bags or used for dog poop.

Watch for the twins Trudeau/Singh to eliminate more of our lifestyle, and your apples will be on the floor.

Any modern packages/containers can barely be opened by normal people without serious arm wrestling or scissors, like the old ones that my mom used for cutting fabric accurately and sewing. They never really close again, so have to be re-packaged after opening into guess what, purchased glad plastic bags or saran wrap etc.!

And then, we are dutifully asked to waste our valuable time sorting and recycling these packaging materials to either landfill, the ocean or wherever the recycling companies drive their “green” trucks.

Is it smart to use water to wash out containers during summer water shortages? Asking for a friend.
