    1. “There’s not many D-Day vets left.”

Too true! But there are some of us who are still alive who lived in England on Dec 6, ’44. My mother and I were living in London at the time while my father was fighting on the front lines. He was a soldier in Europe for almost the entire war. They are both long dead now. I hope they are resting in peace. They found very little of it during the war or after, for that matter. My family carried the memories of war all of our lives as did millions of others. For me, these memories will soon end but not soon enough. Thank God my children and grandchildren are free from these memories.

        1. Thanks for your interest Billy M but this is not my blog. I hope it will suffice to say that about the time I was 20 I decided I would rebuild the family and, now, almost 64 years later, I think I have succeeded. My youngest son and his family are very happy and successful and, I am sure, he will continue to solidify that rebuilding. For me, though, especially these last few years, I have come to dread falling asleep. Memories of my childhood torment me during night. That, for me and millions of others, is the true legacy of war.

      1. My dad lived in southeast England during the Battle of Britain. He’d tell us that he and a friend would watch the dog fights and see planes crash to earth. They’d then madly race their bikes to see the crash sites.

My grandma didn’t care for him collecting pieces of German aircraft.

Another time he and his friend were on a hill. They saw a Spitfire chase a ME109 down a valley. They were actually looking down on the two planes.

        It was a different time.

        1. Happened to be with a British friend yesterday at a potluck supper and the comment turned to peacock feathers. Friend said Brits never brought peacock feathers into the house as they were seriously bad luck. To prove same, she said that the one time she brought one in, their home was bombed. Fortunately, she survived and eventually came to Canada; we are fortunate.

“Whilst there are different forms of UBI, most proposals would see everyone receive the same amount of money regardless of their wealth or employment status and with no conditions attached.”

“All the evidence shows that it would directly alleviate poverty and boost millions of people’s wellbeing,” said Will Stronge [Chief Moron], director of research at Autonomy.

“Thirty people in the U.K. could soon receive £1,600 ($1,983) each month if the trial by independent think tank Autonomy secures funding. The basic income payments are estimated to cost £1.15 million through the duration of the two-year project.”

    Thirty people?

“A separate group who won’t be receiving the money each month will be monitored through one on one interviews, focus groups and questionnaires to understand the difference in their experiences.”

How is your life going knowing that 30 other people are getting $2,000 per month for two years to answer the same stupid questions we’re asking you?

    1. Hmmm… It makes me wonder if the Liberal government has done any other polls, like what it would take to convince us “old stock Canadians” to sign up for their MAiD program?

    1. What’s Harry whining about? He’s a natural asshole or plays the part convincingly. I suspect he is stupider than even his mother.

        1. You don’t have to be stupid to do some stupid things. Never met her, so I won’t say she was stupid, but she did do some stupid things.

  3. I note the headline in the National Post, p. 1: “Bernardo Transfer Outrage Grows”. Apparently Paul Bernardo is being treated with undue leniency. Well, he’s walking around alive, so that’s pretty obviously the case, isn’t it? But apparently it’s gotten even more so lately.

My response was to form a Bachman-Turner Overdrive tribute band called Bernardo Transfer Outrage. Now available for weddings, parties, bars…

    1. Sorry, I looked again and it “builds”, rather than “grows”. I’m going to have to ease up on the breakfast whiskey.

    1. He should ask for an Albertan judge, he would go free even if everyone agreed he did that.
