I warned several people who parroted the idea that variable was cheaper which was promoted by the banks. It was true during 30 years of falling rates ,but 2 % was definitely an inflection point. I also know that loan amounts were being approved that could not be justified by income levels. Add to this increasing levels of taxation to save the earth, increased energy costs and large increases in food prices – all well above cited inflation figures- well, you have a formula for disaster. I believe we haven’t seen anything yet.

It was in a semi-industrial area with bus access and most users somehow managed to find a car to drive there, as I rarely saw someone with their load of groceries waiting for the bus. One Christmas, there was a lineup of at least 20 vehicles idling on the street, waiting their turn, and most of them had a window cracked because they were smoking. Can always find money for smokes, especially when food is free.

Majority of those involved are volunteers. So no, you can’t. Check out a local foodbank, they’re not making huge money. A lot of them are retired giving back to community. There are high school kids doing their required volunteer hours. There are small businesses organizing drives as a form of advertising (win-win). And there are virtue signaling bored soccer moms, great they make themselves useful.

to answer your third question, probably zero because those people generally do not have the ability to delay gratification, so standing in the line to get a free box of dry goods isn’t high on their list of things to do
1. I really don’t care. People lining up for help from other people that voluntarily help is a positive thing.
2. Probably all in line. None goes to food bank for fun.
3. What JD said, also, those are not panhandlers begging on the street for crack money and defalcating in the alley. Those are people who are asking for help feeding their families. They’re not getting butcher’s cuts or caviar, they’re getting cans of beans and corn, bags of rice, spam, some dry pasta, not exactly delicacies.
Show some humility, pray the state will never bankrupt you and lend a helping hand when you can.

No means test means more applicants. ‘Everyone welcome to free stuff.’ These food banks reveal nothing about who uses them but the radio ‘ads’ claim the “need is greater than ever”. Could I call that statement job justification ?

Majority of those involved are volunteers. So no, you can’t. Check out a local foodbank, they’re not making huge money. A lot of them are retired giving back to community. There are high school kids doing their required volunteer hours. There are small businesses organizing drives as a form of advertising (win-win). And there are virtue signaling bored soccer moms, great they make themselves useful.
How long before Toronto or Vancouver become San Francisco? Within 24 months would be my guess. It can’t be stopped.

every restaurant i frequent, less so these days thank you Little Potato, has signs advertising for staff. Every greenhouse operation has to bring in ‘off shore workers’ at great expense . What is the issue?
Their rent is up, their hydro bill is up, their second hand car is broken again and their kid needs braces. They can’t make ends meet so they pick up, privately donated bags of cheap food to help themselves out. It is a good thing when there is enough for them. Pray the government never puts you in that position.
