He’s Paid To Shape Young Minds, You Know

The bedlamites of academia, part 3,062:

According to the educator in question, Steven Shaviro, “It is far more admirable to kill a racist, homophobic or transphobic speaker than it is to shout them down.” What unfailing criteria might be used to determine such things, and how those gorged on indignation might avoid error, prior to any murder attempt, isn’t made clear.

Oh, there’s more.

  1. We saw Professor Shaviro’s thoughts in action on Monday morning in Nashville Tennessee.

  2. Did they red flag him and send him to a mental hospital for a 72 hour evaluation?

Alternatively, when they say shit like this, believe them an act accordingly

    1. So true; when someone shows you what they are really like, you should believe them. Not surprising that he works in the English department, preparing young minds to become net contributors to society rather than net recipients and all that.

  3. Khmer Rouge had similar ideas and a third of the population of Cambodia was dead before it was over. Things like this happen all the time and we are not immune.

  4. “The post stated that rather than ‘shouting down’ those with whom we disagree, one would be justified to commit murder to silence them,” Wilson wrote.
So if we disagree with them is it still ok to commit murder to silence them or would we still be considered fascists? Asking for a friend.

  5. I would like to apply this cunning piece of logic to my side of the fence. Can I start with he/him/it?

  6. It will be interesting to see how The Fire handles this.

Shaviro’s remarks probably aren’t criminal incitement, as the legal barriers to clear that hurdle are substantial in the U.S., and The Fire has been exceptional at protecting free speech no matter what the viewpoint.

But Shaviro’s remaks are so loathsome that even The Fire’s mettle will be tested.
