  1. Most gov’t “employees” are lefties, so theft is to be expected. Why are they not criminally charged?

  2. was one of them the head of the CRA?

“She specified in response to questions from Conservative MP Michael Kram that the 49 employees were fired because they had misrepresented their situation when they applied for the benefit. ESDC employs more than 25,000 workers.”

better question, why does Employment and Social Development Canada employ more than 25,000 people?

  3. Why isn’t that deemed fraud, to take money you were not suppose to have is fraud isn’t it? I saw the same thing here where I live, seniors who get CPP and the supplement income cheque applied for CERB and got their money and when they filed their income tax lost their supplement cheques because they no were no longer low income. You should hear them bleating and crying, they didn’t lose their jobs they don’t work but felt entitled to the free goberment money.

    1. Nah … they just filled out the paperwork wrong … in French. They just need to brush up on their French language skills. Simple mistake. Nothing to see here. Move along.

  4. Well, if the feds think it’s not worth their time looking into a questionable Covid payments to the tune of 15 billion, but a $17 glass of orange juice is outrageous, you might live in Canada. And yet, the $8,000 wine fridge delivered to queen Sophie at the Harrington Lake summer dacha is cool.

    1. I’m sure the Supremes would call that Cruel and Unusual punishment, just like consecutive sentences with chances of parole, or mandatory minimums for gun crimes

  5. Fired eh? You can’t fire them and until I see a gov’t chucklehead busking on a street corner for his dinner I’ll believe it.
More like “You’re fired!!! But you’re certainly eligible to apply at insert useless gov’t agency here…*wink* *wink*.

  6. Virtually all government employees are members of powerful public sector unions. If they are fired, they can file a grievance which will be handled on their behalf by union staff & union lawyers. An “independent” arbitrator (typically pro-union and anti-taxpayer) will hold a hearing & make a decision, which is usually to have the employee rehired, often with back pay and benefits for the period during which they were not working for the government.

  7. Rotten AND clueless:

‘CRA commissioner Bob Hamilton did not have numbers on hand, but noted it was likely “not very many.”’

You’re commissioner for God sakes, you should have ALL the numbers. What kind of idiotic assessment is “not very many”?!?

The guy should be fired on the spot and escorted out to the parking lot. And this is true for the entire federal cabinet, top-to-bottom.

    1. I’m not that bright but perhaps a better answer from Bozo Bobert Hamilton would have been “one is too many”. I want off this sinkng ship.

  8. L – When Parliament and the legislatures were shut down. Where the politicians eligible
for Covid-19 Lockdown CERB payments? Because, they certainly were not doing their job!
A lot of us are still waiting for them to start representing the citizenry.

  9. Did the fired federal employee complain that they were only fired because they were “new” Canadians and people of colour?

    1. I still remember when a copy of an internal CRA memo became public when Chretien was our Prime Sinister, and the memo told Canada Revenue Agency investigators not to do any audits of anybody in Canada in the Investor Immigration program who they suspected of Income Tax fraud.

Somehow the Liberal government quickly got the media to stop writing any more stories about it.

  10. They got fired, but are now collecting Employment Insurance.
If they’d been fired because they were unvaxed, then they wouldn’t qualify.

  11. Pffft.. I worked through the Covid debacle and got a very nice bonus that I promptly gave away to a loved one.. I didn’t want it.. and I got a very large raise.. I didn’t want that either..

I was pushing my luck to get fired so I wouldn’t be supporting our (C word) government with my taxes anymore.. How’s that for doing my part??.. When do I get my medal that I can throw in the garbage?.. When do I get my dignity back??

I feel guilty.. I should have walked away..

  12. Fired. Ha. I noticed that when asked she said none of the fraud cases had been referred for criminal prosecution. They need to be charged. But then, that might set an unwanted precedent of many thousands of govt employees and politicians “fraudulently representing” themselves getting into water over their head.

Good luck to canada. You’re gonna need it.

    1. There won t be any criminal charges and there will not be any attempt to recover the money either. Justin needs those votes in the upcoming election, so basically the Canadian tax payer is contributing to the liberal party campaign finances.
