My parents’ cabin in a rural township had a volunteer fire department that sold memberships with BIG Red Street Address Signs. They were something like $20 or $50/year. They would fight any fire that occurred because they didn’t want fires spreading, but if there were two fires? The member’s property supposedly had first priority.
Generally speaking, if you hear any report of a “historical fact” that seems intended to make you feel outrage or moral superiority, that “fact” is highly suspect.
People like simple narratives with emotional payoffs at the end, and one only has to study history for about five seconds to realize that real history is never so pat.
At 2.00 in the above video he refers to the “no pay no spray” and seems to be referring to this as something not to be supported, then highlights a source from Tennessee, as though it was a common occurrence there?
Well if the English are going to point out something ridiculous, I’ll take it upon myself to point out the English … well I can’t be certain if it’s cowardice or stupidity or maybe both, but it’s what I’d regard as something the English have in spades.
Also, screw your inbred king, his spawn which now infects North America, and your sad tier 2 soccer team which hasn’t won on the world stage since the Toronto Maple Leaves did in 1966/1967
“”I thought they’d come out and put it out, even if you hadn’t paid your $75,” Gene Cranick told reporters.”
The county that Cranick lives in has no fire service, a nearby municipality offers a contract service to those outside it’s limits for the fire service they have to respond.
Cranick’s grandson set 2 burn barrels on fire, and then went inside to have a shower, leaving them unattended to set a shed and then the house on fire…
Not a fan of Tom Scott. Snowflake mentions climate change in almost every video
The motto of our volunteer fire department.
”We’ve saved every foundation at every fire we’ve ever fought.”
Not exatly true. They saved the concrete and stone foundations. The wooden foundations burned.
They did not have the ability to stop fires from spreading, that and most buildings were all wooden inside even if they were brick clad. Applying 21st century tech and abilities to the 1800s is kind of dumb eh.
That qualifies as a “Don’t be Stupid” explainer, but has to be said for some people.
Considering most of London and many other cities almost burnt to the ground in the 16th, 17th, and 18th Centuries?
Not trying to stop every fire would be stupid and shortsighted.
