“Damar Hamlin’s Collapse Highlights the Violence Black Men Experience in Football
The “terrifyingly ordinary” nature of football’s violence disproportionately affects Black men”

The solution is simple; black men can stop playing football and learn a trade.

I respectfully disagree. There was an Enlightenment that followed the Dark Ages, spurring science, art, democracy and intellectualism. The emerging Woke culture is trying (succeeding?) to destroy the Enlightenment.

Josef Mengele and the Nazis would have been so proud!
Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, and so many other murderous Communists psychopaths would offer them awards as Heroes of the Glorious Socialist Revolution.
They eliminated 700 useless eaters.
Hey rd – Jeez, these canadian “doctors” have some catching up to do, to even get into the same league as those folks that you named.
“Doctors” eh! Forgive me if I question the term!

Thanks!!

In mockery, comes truth.
Remember when keeping old people alive was so important that they shut down the economy, mandated vaccines, declared protestors terrorists and seized their bank accounts? Well, what a quick pivot to Maid, and killthem off instead.

There’s a great clip out there from 1970 of Ian &Sylvia jamming C.C Rider with the Grateful Dead and Delaney Bramlett in Calgary. To say that Jerry Garcia and Ian were enjoying each other’s company on that stage would be an understatement. If I find it I’ll post a link, it’s from the documentary Festival Express which has apparently been scrubbed from YouTube.

I recognized Gordon Lightfoot but who was the other couple?
One of them, I think, is Judy Collins, who had the big hit with “One Day Soon”.
Murray McLachlan, Judy Blue Eyes, Gordon Lightfoot, Emmylou Harris
“Some Day Soon” My daughter sang an amazing version before she gave up singing and became a communist.
Of course, Murray McLachlan! Thanks Scar. Sorry to hear about the daughter,, maybe she’ll grow out of it.
Not likely – she’s been a teacher for almost 20 years.
Not likely – she’s been a teacher for almost 20 years.
I had a small record producer/radio station owner as a client at the time and she recorded an audio cassette/cd at 17. Then she went off to university and to my knowledge never sang again. Mind you being a teacher she must know every verse of The Internationale.
Ian was one of the greats, although he didn’t get the recognition that he deserved, at least on this side of the border. I first heard his music (“Four Strong Winds” in this case) on an LP from the Chad Mitchell Trio, back close to sixty years ago. Not too long after that, there was “One Day Soon”, a big hit here. My favorite of his, though, is “Summer Wages”. I heard it on a very strange radio station named KFAT, played by J D Crowe’s New South, sung by Tony Rice, and it opened my eyes to J D and his band, whose members changed with every LP – the one with “Summer Wages” had arguably the most talented bluegrass group ever – J D, Tony, Ricky Skaggs, Jerry “Flux” Douglas, and Bobby Slone, who had moved over from playing the fiddle to playing the bass – left-handed in both cases. Listening to that song knocked me right on my ass. There aren’t very many songs that have ever done that.
Jim, after Ian and Sylvia split, Sylvia was hired by CBC Radio to host a show featuring contemporary folk music. Don’t remember much of it, it was in the 1970s I believe, but it had Sylvia talking and intellectualizing a lot, which is what CBC Radio hosts are prone to do. She also was part of a group of four women folkies who went on tour to promote women folk singers.
Ian went back to his Alberta ranch, and writing and singing music for a small record company. As such he was never promoted much, but folk/country enthusiasts hold his post I&S music in high regard. As an Alberta rancher, wearing a cowboy hat, he was out of the Ontario/CBC limelight.
Joe, we share the same tastes in music. I liked old folie music, bluegrass, flatpicking and fingerprinting guitar.

Tyson came to Alberta because he couldn’t get into the US. He had a pot conviction on his record and while he wanted to move to TX to pursue a cutting horse career he ended up in Pincher Creek AB.
In the same vein there is a story that suggests Tyson introduced Dylon to marijuana who introduced it to the Beatles….
He had the best voice. So clear, pure, timbre he had it. Summer Wages, Someday Soon.
Had one encounter with Mr Tyson in the ‘70s. It was a typical busy day where the older guys were hiding inside pretending to do oil changes. I was stuck trying to keep up with the lines of cars and transports looking to fuel up. I noticed a couple of local ladies speaking to a stranger with the giddiness of school girls. One of the ladies then yelled at me as to why I wasn’t putting fuel into the stranger’s vehicle. Being tired and cranky from taking abuse all day I yelled back. “When his g** d*** turn comes up!”
The boss heard this and finally sent one of the guys hiding in the back out to help. The other guy looks and goes, “Oh hey! You’re Ian Tyson!” He then goaded Mr. Tyson for a couple of records. So I got a record out of the deal.
Joe’s?

Re: The great Ian Tyson
I played bass in some bands in high school and university.
Was never a great lyric listener but was stunned by Summer Wages. Surely a lyric that you can’t not listen to is a great one. How much he evokes in 5 words in line 2!

Thank you for playing this, it brought back so many memories. When my husband was a student, eons ago, Ian and Sylvia, who were just starting out, came to play at the University of Alberta small stage. I will always remember how good they were, and like us – so very young.
