That’s part of why I don’t follow the NHL anymore. Ties are OK in my book (other than championships) and I detest having penalties decide the game. Go to extra time. If that doesn’t work, each subsequent extra time has less players (and no swaps – especially in hockey where iron-man is unheard of with the constant swapping lines).
Overtime 3 on 3 for hockey, no line changes, shouldn’t take too long before a goal is scored. Or, no goalies after first overtime is gone.

I played hockey with a bunch of hackers the other night and not one mention was made of this ‘event’ and the group included half a dozen guys of Italian heritage.

And I don’t follow the NHL because the annual rules change for the playoffs means that the audience is ripped off either in the regular season or in the playoffs. And I don’t like that, if it’s a penalty in game 3 for a rookie, it’s a penalty for a superstar in OT in the playoffs. Once the rules are consistent and consistently applied, I might come back (which I really don’t expect to happen in my lifetime).

Possibly true. Canadian boys have not taken up soccer at a young age in large numbers. Some girls have. Could it be that we have snow half of the year? Indoor soccer is different. This is why we can not field a winning team. Lack of a pool of stars from a large pool of enthusiastic players.

Not in this case. A lot of recent immigrant families involved, our star players didn’t have the option to play hockey from a young age, but could play soccer.
There’s a huge equipment cost difference, and those who have been uplifted by success in sports (from utter poverty to world class) have tended to be in the sports where there isn’t a costing bar (for equipment) to keep one from playing from a very young age. Normal shoes can play soccer, you need skates and sticks and (for many places) pads to play even the lowest levels of hockey.
A more extreme example would be to ask why so few people from poor backgrounds become world-class polo (with horses, for the folks from Rio Linda) players.

You’re completely right (explaining for Robert of Ottawa’s sake, per his comment above) that Japan are one of the most xenophobic and nationalist groups out there, but since they seem to hate the Koreans as much as everyone else (who are arguably the same race) does it still qualify as racism?

I was watching Gutfeld a few weeks back during the NHL’s mea culpa week for lacking diversity. Tyrus said something about, don’t these people know that you have to be able to skate really well to play hockey? He said, not a lot of brothers that he knew could skate. He was hilarious, however.

I could not, in good conscious cheer for the French surrender monkeys with their Corp du Collaboration & their Legion de Surrender.
At least they didn’t lose to Morocco. Some islamic supporters were starting up “first we toke Spain, next we’ll take France, then the whole world is ours like it should have been 1500 years ago”.
So I think God stepped in to make the French win that one. Even though they weren’t truly French. Unless one thinks that colonialization brings citizenship and responsibilities with it.

I played hockey with a bunch of hackers the other night and not one mention was made of this ‘event’ and the group included half a dozen guys of Italian heritage.
But like Habs and Leafs fans, once their team is out they don’t care.
And I don’t follow the NHL because the annual rules change for the playoffs means that the audience is ripped off either in the regular season or in the playoffs. And I don’t like that, if it’s a penalty in game 3 for a rookie, it’s a penalty for a superstar in OT in the playoffs. Once the rules are consistent and consistently applied, I might come back (which I really don’t expect to happen in my lifetime).
Hope you enjoyed your game though. I was never very good at hockey, but loved being a poke-checking pylon (a toast to me after a winning game, when we toasted everyone on the team and then staggered home). 🙂

Possibly true. Canadian boys have not taken up soccer at a young age in large numbers. Some girls have. Could it be that we have snow half of the year? Indoor soccer is different. This is why we can not field a winning team. Lack of a pool of stars from a large pool of enthusiastic players.

Not in this case. A lot of recent immigrant families involved, our star players didn’t have the option to play hockey from a young age, but could play soccer.
There’s a huge equipment cost difference, and those who have been uplifted by success in sports (from utter poverty to world class) have tended to be in the sports where there isn’t a costing bar (for equipment) to keep one from playing from a very young age. Normal shoes can play soccer, you need skates and sticks and (for many places) pads to play even the lowest levels of hockey.
A more extreme example would be to ask why so few people from poor backgrounds become world-class polo (with horses, for the folks from Rio Linda) players.
