We don’t need no giant stinking fans. But we’re going to build a lot of them.

Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan

The Saskatchewan Party government sure seems to have some mixed messages when it comes to wind and solar power. We keep building more, and will build a lot more, but it turns out they don’t produce as advertised.

In two throne speeches on Nov. 2, one MLA spoke praises of SaskPower’s buildout. But another pointed out that you don’t get anywhere close to what the nameplate capacity is.

Our solar capacity is 20 and we were getting 2. You cannot run a province, you cannot run business, you cannot run industry, you cannot run people’s homes on that unreliability

  1. Ahem, just gonna leave this here:

    https://ottawacitizen.com/feature/how-solar-energy-dreams-became-a-nightmare-for-the-small-ontario-town-of-blind-river/

“Blind River boasts a population of about 3,600 people, less than half the size of Smiths Falls….

…For more than seven years, Blind River has been saddled with a mountain of debt that could threaten its future.

Since 2015, the Citizen has been trying to obtain information about the debt to explain how the tiny town managed to borrow $49.5 million of federal taxpayers’ money, yet years later have seemingly little to show for it.

It turns out, the forces that brought about that debt have direct connections to the nation’s capital: from free-flowing federal money from the former Harper government’s much ballyhooed Economic Action Plan; to Ottawa energy companies Plasco Energy Group and Menova Energy Inc.; to high-profile Ottawa consultant Brian Guest.

It’s a whopping amount of money for a town that last year collected $5.98 million in total taxes.

The town’s been financially debilitated. Given its debt burden and its limited tax revenue, under Ontario law it should no longer be able to borrow any money for capital projects such as roads, ice rinks or community centres.”

    1. But according to Butts, Trudeau, and that bastion of Canadian truth (the CBC) solar power is the cheapest form of electricity.

They should be living the good life.

Unfortunately this is the life Butts and Trudeau intend.

      1. Then Buttsy and Justin can rely solely on solar power in a season where such power wanes quickly.

        Winter is coming.

    2. “Well, it back in Blind River in 1962
When I last saw you alive
But we missed that shift on the long decline
Long may you run”… Neil Young

  2. I am hopeful that the government’s intent to build more renewable energy is a sop to environmentalists – sometimes throwing a bone to some of the most hateful and destructive people IS the solution. They will never go away and will continue to nip at the government’s heels causing continual problems – throw them a bone. The plan will generate some power (big deal), but more importantly, the renewables can be pointed to when Sk is criticized. It the end it is probably money well spent.

    1. That was Harpers strategy, play footsie with the commie/climate change cult.

Look where it got us and him.

The only two messages any elected official based in reality needs to say are:

      Hydrocarbons = prosperity and abundance

      CO2 is Life.

      No need to say more

      1. Technically, CO2 is exactly as necessary for life as water. With a little bit of photosythesis. Without that eeeeeeeeeeeeeevil carbon atom, there is no life.

    1. Right. I can’t comment on any other locations in the province, but the Hiway 3 corridor from BC to Med Hat is littered with hundreds, if not thousands, of ’em.

  3. I think the purpose of this so called Green Energy is more of a way for politicians to grease the palms of their friends. They have never made a palatable case for building them. I am sure somebody is getting paid off with these projects. If they had real concerns for clean energy whats wrong with nuclear. The Sask Party is a disappointment.

If you haven’t watched the old SUN NEWS documentary called “DOWNWIND”…I highly recommend watching it….

      Who made the real money…??

  4. My guess is that the province and saskpower’s biggest motivation is the ability to use these wind and solar projects for carbon credits to be sold/traded to industries in the province with high CO2 emissions. They also want to be able to use zero till farmingas a source of carbon credits The green energy projects actually producing any electricity is a secondary concern, imo. The real power transition for Saskatchewan is from coal to natgas and SMRs. I think what the government and saskpower are doing is called greenwashing.

    1. “Greenwashing” is just a pleasant euphemism for a really filthy act: wasting taxpayer funds. Think of all the personnel and equipment we could obtain for the health care system with all that lost money, for instance.

I just got an appointment for my MRI. One year and three days after it was requested.

Never compromise with those that want to destroy you. They are not open to compromise. Their goal is destruction.

      1. I agree, wind and solar are a misuse of money, materials and manpower. Opportunity cost is also a real thing and is rarely talked about with intermittent power sources like wind and solar.

  5. It’s interesting. The same people that want to put up these bird killing monstrosities, are the same people that have a meltdown whenever a duck dies in a tailing pond.

  6. Zero emissions?
-Standardize (or buy) a reactor design
    -build em
    -produce cheap, reliable, emission-free electricity
-subsidize the conversion for homeowners and upgrades for electrical utilities
    -electrify everything

There. That is the only feasible plan. Everything else is just lip-service to special-interest groups and lobbyists.

  7. It was over when thousands of university educated green energy professionals were falling out of school every year with nothing to do.. They must be given jobs because as professionals they are better than you.. That ladies and gentlemen is how its done.. A new class of royalty has been created and its your job to pay for it..

Nothing new really.. Just annoying because its gonna make life suck so much.. If you don’t like it move to Africa.. I hear they don’t have to pay their bills because they are black or something.. Wink wink..
