Wall Street Journal- Hurricane Ian Leaves Florida Reeling, Knocks Out Power to Millions
Rescue crews and local officials fanned out across hard-hit areas of the state, including Naples and Fort Myers, to assess the damage from the storm, which made landfall Wednesday afternoon as a destructive Category 4 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 150 miles an hour.
On late afternoon Wednesday, the National Hurricane Center said a catastrophic storm surge of 12 to 18 feet above ground and destructive waves struck the southwest Florida coast, stretching from Englewood to Bonita Beach, including Charlotte Harbor.
Central and Northeast Florida are projected to see 12 to 20 inches of rain, with some areas receiving as much as 30 inches.

As the Babylon Bee says “Authorities Warn That Hurricane Could Cause Florida To Have As Many Water And Power Shortages As California”
My sister lives on the East coast of Florida (Port st. Lucie).
She said they missed the worst of it, thankfully, and are ok.
Out here, No power, Can’t charge my electric car.
No cabs.
September 29th 12:30 PM,
And Joe Bidden is still the worst friggin present in American historical recorded documents.
My $20,000 Sparky car battery is deep in SALT Water and might blow up.

We Have A Problem ?
Yes, i have two sisters on the east coast, they missed the brunt of it,but still devastating news out of Florida.
Sister in Cape Coral. She’s fine. No word on house, no power, no cellphone.
Supposedly a 500 year flooding event in Orlando. 1 million without power on Gulf Coast below Tampa.
If you lived during the winter in Ft Myers and are from Canada or the USA and you have one of those kinda a home but more like a trailer anchored to a cement pad…….Its probably not there where you left it.
Fort Myers had it the worst I believe, major flooding!

You are not far from the mark.
I have four Florida friends. One was in Fort Meyers and one just south of Naples. They are fine. Their homes are fine. Trees down, mess in the yard, a couple of fence panels missing and one has roof damage. It was wicked but all of them are fine, They are long time Floridians and were fully prepped. One of them is more annoyed with the mess her chickens made indoors where she moved them for safety than the mess in her yard.
They are laughing at their neighbours with electric cars. Couldn’t evacuate due to range limitations and the cars are full of salt water, now toast. Nothing beats an old F150 in the aftermath of a hurricane.
Fort Meyers? Really? 90% of the city was destroyed.
Our neighborhood in Cocoa Beach is just now experiencing the backside of the storm. The very high water in the canals is now being pushed to flood stage by a strong NW wind blowing the lagoon water up to the top of our seawall, over the top of our neighbors’ lower seawalls. The last two months have seen almost daily drenching rainfall so the ground is already saturated. The biggest problem is that the lift pumps for the sewer system are not functioning as they should, so no flushing toilets or using house drains is requested.
No destruction, but the usual tree debris everywhere. Nature’s way of pruning…
I’m in Clearwater Florida, on the west coast. I and my grown children are all fine. All have power, none had any damage. We are very thankful for that and praying for those in the devastated area south of us. It is a very ugly situation.
I have a brother in suburban Ft. Myers (Lehigh Acres) who was planning on evacuating up here with us near Atlanta but then decided not to. No power, minimal roof damage from high winds, no corpses piled up in the yard. He’ll be fine. His daughter lost several trees and part of a fence, that’s about it.
Our place near Crystal River was missed by Ian, it was in the cross hairs early but the hard right into Coral Gables saved us…..but took out others.
Live in the Windermere, FL area (Orange County, west of Orlando). A few trees have been downed, lots of tree debris in the roads, but have not noticed any real damage to buildings. Power went off about 9:00 pm last night, and has yet to be restored. Had plenty of rain, but no flooding here as we are on relatively high ground.
My relatives are south of Tampa. They are fine. Three homes suffered no damage.
I had a house in Florida that was hit by a hurricane
I had a condo in Wisconsin that was hit by a tornado
I live in Montana now.
I’m not moving.
Go too the middle.
Sister and brother-in-law live in Venice. They emailed at 11 yesterday and said they were staying as they are on highest area of the island. At that time their water had been cut off and the wind had blown the flagpole down already but it had missed everything. At that time they were thinking they were going to get the eye of the storm. We haven’t heard from them yet, soon I hope.
My brother lives in Tampa. His house is 15
massive feet above sea level and he had no house damage at all and no flooding. Part of his back fence blew over so he might get an alligator or two in his pool.
He has been spending his time helping neighbors whose houses are not so high up and are therefore less fortunate.
We’re in a manufactured home 2 miles west of Disney. We stayed in a hotel last night, but thankfully our house has no damage. A small number of houses in the neighborhood, however, are missing porches, lanais, or carports. Power won’t be fixed until at least tomorrow per a text from Duke, but we got a generator for our fridge and a few lamps. Thank God the weather is nice and not 90°! Husband is back to work at Disney tomorrow, if you can believe that (sounds like of the parks, Universal got hit the worst by flooding).
It‘s crazy to see how much destruction there is just a couple of hours away. Prayers to everyone in that area.
