Victor Davis Hanson on how our enemies want us to be Woke.

“Woke means that Americans have less money, labor, and time to hone their military readiness. They will produce less competitive energy, but more pseudo-science, non-meritocratic advancement, and unsound investment—all the reasons why America will no longer dominate the world.”
Newsflash. The NEO-cons aligned politically with the woke crowd to defeat Orange Man Bad cuz he didn’t support the foreign adventures. After 4 years of lies from the DOJ, FBI, CIA to unseat a President & another 2 years of “trust the science” why would anyone want the regime to “dominate the world”.
VDH is really the only credible academic out there anymore. The rest are on the far left. I enjoy his work.
^ this. Same thing when I read his work.
We can anticipate the usual suspects’ missives to slag the author with ad-hominem attacks.
Will they be able to point to any factual errors in the article’s grim analysis?
VDH always tells us what we already know.
HOWEVER his eloquent heart-felt summaries never fail to shock us as we stare in disbelief seeing it all tied together in a single relatively brief document with a big black bow on top.
AND YET no one was more gung-ho for the Iraq adventure which most of us now see as an unmitigated disaster and not because of the compromised military to which he refers. One believes that VDH should have known better.
X, it might be just a tad unfair to single out Victor David Hansen as a supporter of the Iraq war. He had lots of illustrious company! Why did you not mention that?
“Do we remember that Bill Clinton signed into law the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, which supported regime change in Iraq? He gave an eloquent speech on the dangers of Saddam Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction.
In 2002, both houses of Congress voted overwhelmingly to pass a resolution authorizing the removal of Saddam Hussein by force. Senators such as Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry and Harry Reid offered moving arguments on the Senate floor why we should depose Saddam in a post-9/11 climate.
Democratic stalwarts such as Sen. Jay Rockefeller and Rep. Nancy Pelosi lectured us about the dangers of Saddam’s stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction. They drew on the same classified domestic and foreign intelligence reports that had led Bush to call for Saddam’s forcible removal.”
Political Junkie:
Agree 100%.
I made all these arguments with a couple liberal friends back in 2003. I failed to mention that I myself was initially a gung-ho supporter of the Iraq war but saw the light relatively soon after and recanted. VDH though, like Bush, Cheney and Condoleeza Rice, to my knowledge, did not, at least publicly.
My succumbing and recovery from that propaganda was a key contibutor to my my extreme skepticism about Covid 19 literally from day one.
Right on, VDH. But I fear your brilliant prescient words are drifting into the ether … unheard. This generation is an embarrassment whose sole survival mechanism is to embarrass the dominant culture first … in hope no one will notice their own lack of competence and accomplishments.
The REAL sin of PDJT? He was a damn good President. He did the things that indeed made America Great again. We were scolded that “a businessman doesn’t know anything about how to run a country” … yeah … PDJT smashed that canard to smithereens. America was SOARING in Jan. 2020 … positively THRIVING on all of the bombastic President’s policies and practices. Hence … The Deep Political State, whose tentacles extend multinationally, HAD to destroy Trump’s certain re-election. Even if that required millions of “excess deaths” around the world. That’s just how purely EVIL these entrenched political and business Deep State actors are.
On Labor Day, Tucker Carlson played part of his interview with VDH, and I discovered that VDH’s discovery of Trump-populism was very similar to mine. That VDH hadn’t ever given Trump a second thought and certainly wasn’t his first choice in 2016. Nor mine. But when it became evident that Trump was the odds on favorite to win the nomination (precisely because he was a political outsider) VDH started to support Trump. As did I. VDH is about my age, and while I don’t have his agrarian Central Valley upbringing (mine was decidedly suburban) … I experienced CA as a Great State pre-supermajority leftist rule. I have watched leftist ideology literally turn this State into a dysfunctional dump. Many of our streets look like a Tijuana dump. Our new “green” energy grid is fragile and a heartbeat from failure. We are told to use less energy, use less water, don’t use plastic, no, no, no, no … NO! That’s leftist policy in this State … NO! I’m a conservationist … but that doesn’t mean a return to 19th century living conditions. But that’s where this State is headed … Back to our Future. Way back. Yes, our adversaries are cheering our regression.
