    They are jumping from a puddle into ocean as if that is going to do anything for the plebeians.

  9. The EU knew full well sanctioning Russia would lead to them throttling the gas in retaliation thereby ushering in their energy starvation/Paris Accord CO target Utopia. A peace deal was all but a done deal, but they sent in Boris NoGoodnik to torpedo the works so it’s all making sense to me now. Freaking sociopaths.

  15. The western world is hurtling headlong into a depression that will take a generation to recover from. The frustrating thing, is that even though this will be blamed on Covid, on Russia, on globalization, on climate change, and a host of other factors – this is the direct result of willful blindness, and a desire to tear down our economy and replace it with some hazy mirage of a great reset.

    NATO and the US State department did everything they could to provoke a war between Russia and Ukraine, by threatening to arm Ukraine, and bring it into NATO -confronting Russia with the prospect of a hostile, nuclear-armed puppet government in a position to cut them off from the Atlantic for most of the year. The EU has done everything they can to prolong the war by arming and supplying Ukraine.

    The EU crippled their own economy with a lack of investment in real energy infrastructure, while sinking billions of euros into insane green energy projects that simply failed to work. Then, they sought to cripple Russia with sanctions in the face of their own energy vulnerability and dependence on Russian natural gas. Those sanctions have backfired spectacularly.

    Now they are desperate for energy, and are hoping to redress that by starving their own citizens for energy during what promises to be a historically cold winter. They have already crippled their heavy industry in a way that will start shutting down their economy one sector at a time over the next few months.

    Meanwhile, the US and Canada, who are ideally positioned to enjoy a huge economic boom from energy exports to a desperate Europe, have decided instead to embark on a program of moral preening, while crippling their own energy production. Some nations in Europe are at least partly innocent of the creation of the economic monster that will consume them over the next few years, but Canada and the United States will suffer from injuries that are completely self-inflicted.

    It’s infuriating, because this is all an act of willfulness, and it’s completely unnecessary.

      It creates a small class of HAVES and six and a half billion of HAVE-NOTS.

      No one in his right mind would believe that eating bugs will stop the sun from getting hotter.

  16. Looks like Europe is going try to survive the winter with green energy. The idea that wind and solar are low cost conveniently ignores the intermittent nature of those power sources. Natural gas and hydro are essential partners to wind and solar power to stabilize the electricity grid from the fluctuations from the intermittent wind and solar power. Because wind and solar electricity can and do fall to zero for hours, days even weeks, flexible power (natgas and hydro) must match each potential MW from wind and solar…making the wind/solar/flexible power partnership more expensive than natgas and hydro alone. And wind and solar make the electricity grid more vulnerable than simply using conventional baseload plus natgas/hydro peaking power.

    In practice, conventional baseload power that covers 100% of demand plus natgas for peak and emergency power is all that’s required. Unfortunately, most of Europe has scuttled their conventional power stations. Green energy only sounds smart to people who are ignorant about the reality of electricity systems (power production plus transmission and distribution grid)

      If your prime minister, president, premier or governor in North America is watching what is happening in Europe, UK, California and is still walking on the same energy path over the edge of the cliff….then you know, absolutely know, that they are not working in their citizen’s best interest. No one, not even politicians, are so stupid that they are unable to connect those dots.

  17. I’ve just come back last night from two weeks in Germany. I wouldn’t get too carried drawing meaning from this as the comments show. Basically, they are not going to be able to carry on with anything that intensively uses energy, such as is the case with making aluminum.
    On the individual level, they will have to curtail their use of heat, hot water, and electricity this winter in a manner that will be as close to “wartime coping” as they have ever understood.

    No-one I met seemed to be optimistic about the next few years. The culture of partying is quieter, as is the young adults who occupy their free time and money on traveling.

    Their balloon has been slowly leaking for the past two months or so. The weight of it is sinking in, in the past week as the summer heat has been giving in to the early signs of autumn.

    The stupidity of most European ‘leaders’ is quite astounding. The US will take over all the failed business activity which their moronic sanctions are creating, as companies shut down due to unaffordable energy. Perhaps that’s part of the plan – wipe out German industry and then move manufacturing to America?

The results == create an energy emergency, they give themselves god like powers to cede life and liberty to solve a crisis they created. What they’re doing via the new green deal should be a crime against humanity, the elites won’t suffer we pay for their ivory tower life styles.

  27. Putin has figured out how to use nuclear weapons to do harm to the west, I was tempted to say destroy the west but I think it will stop short of that. He didn’t use the weapons, but the fear of them prevents Europe and North America from going into Ukraine with decisive military results, while the general repugnance for Russian invasion of a sovereign state prevents pressure for a settlement. It’s a stalemate that cannot go on much longer, assuming Putin doesn’t withdraw or achieve a more widespread victory. Europe in particular will find that principles only carry so much weight before reality overcomes them.

    That is of course what Czechoslovakia found out in both 1939 and 1968, and Hungary in 1956. This is not a new playbook, the fear of a superpower’s military potential has often led to unpleasant results for smaller countries. Putin must be chuckling away in his dacha realizing the chaos he has caused in the same western alliance that snubbed his overtures much earlier in this century. And that in retrospect was a stupid mistake.

    1. Why would the the west, other than the EU go anywhere near the Ukraine? This has nothing to do with the war, this was planned, and you have the astoundingly short sighted view that they want this to stop. Even if that were true, NATO minus the US is nothing, they couldn’t beat anyone in a war.

    2. War in the Ukraine has been going on since 2014. Nationalist have been trying to rid the Black sea coast of the heavily Russian ethnic population for 8 years. The donbass is a very stategic region. In Feb of this year the war just entered a new phase and one that serves the interests of globalists very well. There will be casualties in this conflict either way. I have no dog in this fight and am not going to the Ukraine to fight. God forbid my son gets conscripted. If Russia is forced to retreat from the donbass, one can only imagine the horrors the globalists will unleash all over the world. Europe is getting a taste of this now.
