Breitbart- Amazon Halts User Reviews to Blunt ‘Rings of Power’ Backlash
Amazon Prime Video quietly introduced a 72-hour delay for all user reviews posted to Prime Video so that each critique can be evaluated and approved for posting, according to a report by Variety.

Lasted 1.5 episodes – awful – although, had just finished 4 seasons of Yellowstone and anxiously awaiting 5.
I only got about 35 minutes into episode 1. Appallingly bad. If you’re not attracting Tolkien fans, who the hell does Amazon think is going to watch this abomination?
On point – Amazon has been delaying product reviews for at least a year – buy a product, receive it – Amazon will eventually send an email asking you to review the purchase – if you agree and do so, all the products you’ve purchased and not reviewed will be listed – when you actually write a review Amazon sends an email stating it will be posted after being reviewed – when Amazon posts your review, typically 3 days hence – you can log in and see it.
YouTube has been doing this for about a year.
Haven’t seen it and probably won’t. The ads I’ve seen, suggested to me that it’s an attempt to cash in on the original LOTR franchise, without the expense, without the time invested, or the integrity of the original franchise.
I also suspect the same of the new GOT series, also trying to cash in on the hugely successful original. I really enjoyed Game of Thrones, the whole series, but this new one who’s title escapes me, Dragon or something, I couldn’t even get to the end of the first show. It always seems as if copycat attempts like these, usually do fail. Most successful shows, movies and TV, are new ideas, rather than reheating old ideas because they were originally successful.
There are exceptions of course on both sides, but usually reheats are poor fare in comparison to originals.
Amazon paid nearly as much for the rights as Jackson spent in total on the LoTR movies.
Amazon has spent as much on the production of the first season as Jackson spent on the LoTR movies and the first Hobbit movie.
It is scheduled and budgeted for 4 more seasons.
They aren’t doing it cheap and they aren’t doing it quickly.
That suggests that all of the corner cutting is being spent in integrity.
kfg, Thanks for the cost info, I did not know that information. Unfortunately it only emphasizes the fact that throwing gobs of money at a TV or movie production is no guarantee of success. Perhaps they have learned some new CGI tricks, but that is all. I guess it’s true that if you go woke, you might go broke! The recent Tom Cruise movie was actually a great success, (haven’t seen it either) Perhaps partly because it wasn’t a woke type production. I stand by my original assessment above, minus the funds part. I know what I like and enjoy, and I usually know when they’re trying to fool me and pander to us all with cringe worthy productions such as those being discussed here.
However, I’m no movie or TV critic, just a keyboard puncher.
Seriously, who GAF about a TV show?
We can’t all be opera fans but you apparently care enough to share this comment.
That’s not the point. TV and movies, frighteningly enough, are excellent indicators of the ideas that some people are trying to push on society. I don’t watch much of it, but I never ignore it. YMMV.
It’s actually quite good. Beautiful and sumptuous. I expect many of the reviews are from folks who haven’t bothered to watch it but like to trash things. I don’t compare it to the LOTR series. Nor am I too concerned with whether or not it’s faithful to Tolkien’s vision. It’s a remarkable achievement and very well done. Some will object to “wokism”: a strong female lead which I actually do find irritating, the diversity of actors, and so forth, but it doesn’t spoil the overall story and the acting.
Hi Rita,
I am sure you would also like the planned remake of The Greatest Story Ever Told by Amazon, that has Jesus as a trans ex-Muslim Pedo just so long as the cinematography was good along with a heart wrenching great score by Elton John and Jesus of course played by a Chinese Dwarf.
Here’s the deal, Rita. The whole point of woke is to destroy our culture. Everything else is unimportant.
“… The whole point of woke is to destroy our culture …”
Exactly.
They disguise brain washing into entertainment
it is like coating with candy a poisoned pill.
people watch those tv shows and movies convinced they are harmless entertainment, but while the public is distracted, they are slowly planting deeper and deeper in the mind of the watcher all those woke ideas, making the weird and the sick and the wrong more and more ” normal” and ” common” and ” harmless”
After years of watching those things that seem as harmless as a sweet candy, people begin to find it normal that kids get their penis or breasts cut off…or that adults have sex with kids…or that the idea that all whites should be replaced is as normal as eating and sleeping.
Those shows and movies are not harmless .
Ha ha ha ha. You must work for Bezos.
Ok. What I want to know is did Hobbits import slaves at one time in order to have Hobbits of color in future woke BS?
Your free speech has been delayed by 72 hours.
I watched both episodes. Tolkien wouldn’t be impressed. He was, almost, infatuated with languages and, actually, went so far as to create his own. He would not be impressed by the constant use of the word “Okay” by multiple characters. It’s a slang term that was invented by a journalist mocking another newspaper by suggesting that OK stood for Oll Korrect (a purposeful misspelling).
Amazingly, it found its way into Middle Earth. Incredible.
My review is short. The CGI is top notch, except when it’s not (and those instances stand out like a sore thumb). The characters are “meh”. The story is “Zzzzzzzzzz.” They better step it up in episode 3 or they’re going to see their viewership take a nosedive.
It’s already too late. Tolkien fans hate it. Read the reviews on Metacritic. A page of Amazon employees giving it a 10 and page after page of people giving it zeroes or slightly better. I tried most of the first episode, saw where it was heading and turned it off. It’s not going to get better, in fact, I bet it gets worse.
Tolkien spent a lifetime studying myths and languages. This bit of trash was based on a few minutes with Woke/Diversity fantasy and a bunch of Hollywood leftovers. There can’t be any character development since the females and minorities are all “perfect” at the get-go. Yawn.
