Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Didn’t the same thing happen in Greece just a few years ago where swimming pools became the new source of taxes?
Yes, I remember the Greek story and swimming pools.
i do t0o, when any flight into Athens shows a sea of blue swimming pools
Empty the pool then it is not a pool, it’s a big hole in the ground
The beauty of having nothing is that there nothing to tax.
However, if you have nothing and do not produce anything… the upcoming global slave master governance will see no reason to invest in your food bill. You will face extermination.
They pretty much tell it to you every day.
Klaus, Bill, George, Biden, Trudeau, the little shit from France … the clown who now is in charge of the Netherlands AKA Holland … and a cast of thousands of useful idiots who will, at some point find out what happens to idiots once they are no longer useful.
I love the way every complex software product is branded as AI now. 99% of what is called “AI” is what we used to call “software”. Artificial Intelligence used to describe a particular subset of software designed to simulate human intelligence either through a subset of stochastic, cellular algorithms, or through natural language processing, (NLP).
Now pretty much anything with an adaptive component, or a connection to a non-relational database or unstructured data set is called “AI” to make it sound more impressive. People who don’t understand computers think that this means it might come to life and become self-aware, like Skynet, when it is far more likely just to produce odd results.
I wonder if all these pools were built without permits.
You try that in B C / Bring Cash and they would likely make you rip it out.
Maybe it would have been easier to have software look at land titles for permits … easier and cheaper.
I agree on the AI nonsense.
I wonder if it can be adapted for outdoor hockey rinks in Brampton?
You probably get a property tax credit if you build a rink like St. Patrick did ….you know, an underprivileged neighbourhood and all that….
You have to wonder about a guy who can’t cheat worth a tinkerers fart
It’s just like the guns the popular press and their masters in legislature can’t identify.
Here here Mr. Ivey.
I love the way every complex software product is branded as AI now
Because machine learning is such a powerful tool that it’s been incorporated into anything that people care about the ROI on.
You can argue whether a tool that uses an image recognition model generated by having a GAN trained on an appropriate image set is an AI, but it is not arguable that it is using AI.
Good call Christopher – I too wondered…”Is it really AI?”
I could see this as being a good application of AI software… a human training software to recognize a pool from a satellite image.
The program costs EU24 Million per year and can bring in up to EU40 Million next year?
That’s ticking off a lot of people for not much actual net gain.
But our computer programming says you have a pool!
Pay up!
It doesn’t matter if it’s still not even a conception to the house owner.
Eventually, they will run out of unlawful pools, but will finance the running of the upgraded software for years and years with the tax surplus…
Understand what this is REALLY indicating: That they’re BROKE.
Going after a property owner for what amounts to a few hundred dollars in uncollected fees over several years is an indicator of how desperate they are for ANY additional revenue.
End stage Kleptocracy.
Faster .
Harder.
More and more vicious infighting over ever diminishing rewards..
greece is a third world country , mistakenly parked in europe.
It sounds a lot like killing the elderly off for their pensions.
(SEE: Canada, MAID)
The problem with Socialism is that you eventually run out of other peoples swimming pools and verandas …
PS … there’s no AI gonna change that
So that’s what French satellites have been looking for. I wonder how many under age topless girls they spotted for Epstein and Maxwell over the years?
Pre crime will be coming sooner than we think.
We all have to commit … our fair share … of crime? Show me the man, I’ll show you the crime? ALL of our homes will be RAIDed?
I’m surprised that the authorities are allowed to use the results the “AI” revealed. Here in Ontario, I believe police are prevented from using residential hydro usage records to pinpoint potential grow-ops because of ‘privacy concerns’.
There is a difference. Your water usage is between you and your water supplier.
A swimming pool is sitting there in plain sight.
That 40-million should offset the 2-billion sent to Ukraine.
While they are examining things visible from orbit, they should look at taxing her eyebrows…
Imagine the revenue!
It would be one thing if the additiona taxes provides some needed service but we all know where a lot of taxes go.
It would be nice to read that the pools they discovered were now filled with dead politicians bodies.
The PRIMARY goal of all this creative taxation is to exponentially increase the amount of “SPILLAGE” that is funneled to the guiltiest bastards.
There are NO “good intentions” or “unintended” consequences involved in ANY of this..
Get your “affairs” in order NOW.
The City of Winnipeg has been using satellite photos to find evidence of central air conditioning for years. Once they see it, up goes your assessment!
How long until they designate the “lesser blessed” as neighbourhood pools?
Not that long, if the current trend continues to its logical conclusion.
Ha! The term “AI” is hilarious to me! Being a farm girl from another time, “AI” stood for and stands for “artificial insemination”. Not a pretty job and not a pretty sight!! Although, very metaphorical for what’s going on now! A lot of heads up there now! Have fun with that one boys! Ha!
Like the cow, the tax payer is bent over…
Some years ago elderly relatives were left behind to die of heatstroke while the family went to the beach. Obviously the pools were built to provide an alternative to beachgoing that would preserve Grandmere et Grandpere.
We can’t have that under the New Order.
“$40 million”
Phhht,… Primemeanister Star Wars Socks drinks that on a flight over there.
Or a couple of months of grocery bills. Paid for by the citizens of Kanadar
That still buys a LOT of ammo for the government Security Forces
Imagine how many untaxed lemonade stands they’ll be able to find with this tech, with the assistance of Google.
They’re gonna need camoflauged water.
L – 1st world police have aircraft that use infrared cameras to search for fugitives and lost people. Nothing stops gov’t. from using the same to scan your home and fine you for
keeping it warmer during the winter, than your mayor/premier/prime minister decrees.
All this to fight climate change in your own home.
The residents/owners will be fined or visited by the Climate Police to permanently adjust
your thermostat, or the amount of natural gas delivered to your home, via smart meters.
This to prevent crime against the climate or in Canada perhaps, to offer the frostbitten, to relieve their suffering a novel free medicare in the form of Medically Assisted… .
So there is already unrest because of the high inflation and crushing tax burden on the average citizen. How is this going to help exactly?
I think you misunderstand the purpose of the policy.
To chase the last wealthy people outta the country? They should move to Russia.
No one should move to that hellhole. The government there just steals and dupes and loses wars.
You must be referring to Amerika!
It is interesting indeed that this story comes from France, a country that has already demonstrated a highly effective solution to overreach by the government/aristocracy.
E T
When the french flush their toilets, Kanada winds up with a new crop of politicians!
“French people with an unregistered and untaxed pool in their backyards? Why, they are ROBBING poor helpless, defenseless Ukrainians from life-giving water in their monumental struggle against the evil Putin!
But don’t forget, Ukraine is WINNING, they not helpless and defenseless and they are sending the Russians packing and killing the enemy by the thousands each day!
No lies and incongruities here.
Shut up. I’m telling mommy on you!”
^^^^ Oh boy, our unbiased moderator will be all over this “inappropriate comment” in seconds…
What a thin skinned little child. So typical of a two faced hypocrite.
Read this bit of news and get back to us with more of your hypocrisy.

Oh Francisco, where are thou?
Ignoring petulant little WEF Globohomo bots like you.
You must be so happy to enjoy the privileges of his loyal pet.
This new tax effort will no doubt be very popular with the French public, particularly now that they can’t get electricity to run their air conditioning.
Just think on that a second:
1) hottest summer on record
2) drought with household water taps running dry (pool would be pretty handy, right?)
3) electricity prices spiking so no air conditioning
…and the French government decides the thing to do is -tax- undeclared swimming pools.
Almost as if they hate the people of France and want to see them die.
I can hardly wait to see what they do this winter.
The west no longer has any moral authority to criticize anyone, not the Chinese, not the Russians, not Islam. A society that locked down its own people, coerced injecting them with experimental mRNA tech, a society that uses AI to squeeze another dollar from its own, while at the same time starving and freezing them, a society that condones and promotes gender-bending surgury and hormone treatments for kids, a society that encourages kids to engage in the most degenerate of lifestyles, is morally bankrupt by every metric, much worse than Islamic, Chinese or Africans.
I for one totally agree with you HiHo
1000%
the market for camouflage retractable decks will suddenly shoot up next year…
The Greeks used satellite photos do accomplish the same thing.
In Athens, 324 out of 16,974 were declared, a compliance rate of less than 2%.
The very idea of having to “declare” a pool is anathema to a free people, by any metric.
Government spends $20M to collect $10M in additional taxes. Doesn’t even take into account the people involved and the cost of their time. Typical government.
I’ve been living at my place in the country for about 18 years. Shortly after I moved in a guy across the road built himself a house. Ten years later someone from the municipality noticed it on Google Earth where it was supposed to be a vacant (100 acre) lot. They made him pay 3 years in back taxes. He listed the place shortly after and sold it for over $2 million. I’m told this stuff is more common than you would think. The municipality now has a drone that flies over about once a month. Right over our house. Not sure what they’re looking for. I give it the finger every time. Sometimes I stick out my tongue. What can you do?
You could shoot at it.
I’d shoot the f’ing thing down…in a heartbeat.
Trespassing. Hell, use an air rifle..a good one, or get proficient with a good latex banded slingshot…I use mine on em when some goof flies one over my campsite…Fk em – no business invading my privacy
Or just a spinning rod with a bell sinker and cheap braid line, you don’t have to actually even hit it.
Not particularly high tech, but a lot less expensive and probably more effective, is the tactic employed by at least one eastern Ontario city. Tax department employees compare the information on MLS homes-for-sale sites against the data on file in municipal and provincial assessment files.
Knock! Knock!
“Who’s there”
“The ghost of unobtained building permits and property tax arrears”
That’s the kinda thing that doesn’t make Canadians angry, heck if you don’t pay into it, no paved roads, cats living with dogs, etc. Canadians gobble this crapola right up, while they whine when some elitist gets a free ride, and whine twice as hard when a poor man does.
It goes way beyond that. MPAC scours property insurance documents at the least. They spend lots of time checking up on slobs, aka taxpayers.
What’s the tax on a bouncy house in the yard? Or a portable spa? Asking for a Trucker friend
Ahh, Kenjii, I love your posts. Even California would have a hard time with this crap. California is like the old Soviets, but with much less enforcement. Canada is in a much, much worse place. We have gov’t tickets to be able to climb a ladder, every cash register has a chip in it that the gov’t can search, and yer not run a store without the state chip. Arrive-Can is just the logical extension of what Canada really is, a once-“soft and rich” totalitarian state.
Most of what the feds, provinces and municipalities do to us would be illegal in many states.
Our only saving grace is that the gov’t is to broke to come after all of us.
Quite amusing that the French Government had to spend so much money,to duplicate the work their “Civil servants” were supposed to be doing.
They need an Artificial Intelligence to do the work their bureaucrats can’t?
Or won’t?
What is next?
Digitalizing State Records,so computers can track all the stealing by government?
Now that would be money well spent..maybe
