They are cannon fodder in the sanctions war. Sun: Why we can’t ship natural gas to Germany
Related (from Kate): The decision to terminate primary aluminium production at Slovalco comes in response to adverse framework conditions and high electricity prices, which show no signs of improvement in the short term.

“The problem, which predates the Trudeau government………..”
Yea ok.
Trudeau should donate some socks, that will help a few of Berlins million Middle Eastern “refugee’s” at least.
Unfortunately Canadian natural gas exports would have to go through Quebec, which has said no to any pipelines.
Alternative routes through the US, to tie into the existing Nova Scotia to Boston area pipeline, would not be approved by the US. They currently get Canadian natural gas at a discount, allowing the US to sell its gas at world prices.
The refusal to allow pipelines and ports and ships (BC only) on Canadian coasts for petroleum exports is an economic America First, Canada Last policy by the Trudeau Liberal government. Didn’t realize the Liberals and NDP are so fond of enriching American corporations instead of Canadian workers.
LC
I suspect Liberals MPs and the Laurentian elite are heavily invested in American energy and pipeline companies.
They want to protect and enhance their investments.
Follow the money
The Canadian economy gets screwed with some help of some very willing friends.
is there any Great Lakes LNG carriers? because that’s about the only way to get around Quebec’s anti-energy stance
Re the poor Slovakian aluminum plant, they wouldn’t bow down to the crooked EU and the CO2 madness so they can’t sign long term energy contracts. Pity the 300 aluminum workers, their jobs were sacrificed to save the planet or some other madness
Opening up new markets for canadian natural gas might seem like a good thing, but it will drive up demand for our natural gas supplies and therefore the price of the commodity. I’d be ok with that in a normally functioning country where producers could explore and open up new production facilities to meet the demand, but the Liberals have destroyed our energy industry. So we are going to be stuck with higher prices and carbon taxes driving up the costs to heat our homes.. you know.. so we don’t all die in the -40, not -41 (because of climate change), temperatures this winter.
This is why God sent Romanians to deal with meddlesome governments.
Can we use Hungarians in a pinch, asking for a mad friend.
Sure.
Why not?
Imagine that! Shipping weapons of War and money to purchase weapons of war to Ukraine – good! Shipping fossil fuels to the EU – bad!!!
We are living in fkcued-up times.
The leftists have become the warmonger luddites … no wonder Cheney loves the left so much …
I bet the QPP (Quebec Pension Plan) and assorted Quebecois “royalty” are heavily invested in Saudi oil&gas and not Western Canadian oil&gas. That’s why they were so against a pipeline going east to N.S.
A similar problem at 2 zinc refineries, one in France, one in Italy. Price of electricity is too high.

But inflation is only 6%.
Having driven thru Quebec and in and around Quebec City, I would say that pipelines are much less intrusive than those infernal electrical towers that are all over the damn place.
They are offensive and they are everywhere!
I do suppose they are somewhat of a comfort to the idiots that are in the Quebec environs. They must equate to a sense of superiority over the ROC in that they are “green!”
Quebecers should maybe ask the former inhabitants in the flooded areas of Quebec and Labrador.
20% of US aluminum production is currently shuttered, because of … high electricity prices.
