Allahpumdit: The case of the missing Jan. 6 text messages now extends to the Pentagon

This makes three different agencies where key personnel had data related to January 6 inexplicably wiped from their phones without it being preserved first. The most alarming violations involve the Secret Service, where texts from numerous agents were deleted last year and an investigation by the inspector general of DHS appears to have devolved at some point into an out-and-out cover-up of that fact. Texts to and from acting Trump DHS chief Chad Wolf and his deputy, Ken Cuccinelli, also disappeared after the two men turned in their phones to the department upon leaving government.

This afternoon CNN is reporting that it happened at the Defense Department too. The electronic communications of three key figures involved on January 6 in the military response to the Capitol are now apparently gone.

I can just about believe that three separate agencies of the federal government would be so incompetent that they’d absentmindedly wipe the phones of major officials despite federal records laws to the contrary, but the more examples of this there are, the more deliberate it appears.

    Seems that he has not considered the possibility that the messages were deleted because they prove there was no insurrection, and that Trump did nothing wrong, rather than the opposite. He even presents the possibility that the messages were deleted by the institutional personnel the devices were handed to not the (Trump appointed so possibly pro-Trump) people who originally used them.

      and they were discussing politics. One of them criticized Trump, emphasizing that the incident on 2021-01-06 was an attempt to overturn the government.

      Even ordinary people believe that horse puckey.

  2. Were I to guess, I would say this is a concerted effort to create an implication so as to prolong the issues and make them useful when needed without the necessity of truth or factual data.

    Addendum: Allahpundit is a jackass who falls right into the Bill Kristol grifter with no principles unless they generate prestige and cash category.

      It shouldn’t be about whose ox is being gored. Leave that to to the political tribalists.

      If these were deliberate acts it is extremely hard to imagine it was done by Trump enemies in order to hide exculpatory evidence for Trump or his appointed officials.

      Personally, I find the whole insurrection conspiracy effort over-the-top political hyperbole. But at a minimum, a lot of reputations are at stake. No-one wants their emails or texts to be construed as supporting the idiots who breached the Capital Building.

      1. Certainly. The entire group of FBI agents assigned to the Mueller’s special counsel deleted their texts inclusive of Peter Stzrok. I have no doubt that was at the direction of the DOJ. Why should they change their stripes now? There have been no repercussions.

        What I’m saying is that there is a very good chance that the approach is being used here in an opposite fashion. Instead of deleting texts to hide the bias and prejudice…they are hiding the texts to create a narrative that cannot be proved or disproved. Instead, it’s what they say or imply and that is, of course, regurgitated and amplified by the media.

        I think the tell here is that the Pentagon is NOT going to cover for Trump. He lowered their necessity by using economics for foreign policy. If anything they have an ax to grind.

      I wonder if he was equally outraged when Hillary Clinton’s people did the same thing, twice (once with hammers, reportedly). Or when Mueller’s people did it.

  6. The long term damage is the erosion of confidence in the precept of equal standing before the law. That is always been subject to variation but now, with the prevalence of information and alternative delivery platforms, many more people understand how deep the rot is. How many care? That’d be another topic

      Draining the swamp, a Trump term I think, is not enough of a disinfectant anymore…Burn the swamp and pour salt all over it is my recommendation.

    1. Democracy only works as long as both sides are reasonably honest and playing by the same rules. As it stands now both those requirements have been canceled.

  15. Hot Air long ago lost any semblance of being a breaking news site, or having interesting or insightful commentary. It went downhill fairly quickly after Michelle Malkin sold it years ago. It’s barely any better than reading a slightly-right MSM outlet, and Allahpundit is a raging NeverTrumper. I admit I open it once in a while just to see the shallow, surface level takes on the political world.

    Ed Morrissey has his little claim to fame for helping break open Canada’s sponsorship scandal but that was a long, long time ago.

    which also means that Trump is right about 99% of the time.

    Odds are roughly 99% this time as well that Trump and people working for him did nothing wrong.

      Any evidence that would prove Trump did not incite violence at the Capitol is being destroyed by the crime syndicate we know as the democrat party.

      As a bonus, accusing Trump or his staff of deleting them makes Trump look guilty of hiding something bad.
