This evening we’re delighted to present Alfred Hitchcock’s brilliant 1958 film, Vertigo, starring Kim Novak and Jimmy Stewart.  Besides enjoying some delightful filmmaking, it’s also wonderful to see San Francisco and vicinity during more brilliant times.  Finally, listen carefully to the way Novak speaks.  Though she’s American, she talks in a Mid-Atlantic accent that was common amongst movie stars of the era.

Your most interesting recent tips are definitely appreciated.

    1. You’re welcome. I’ve added Equilibrium to my “round tuit” movie list. I still have some Terence Hill films and Chuck Norris movies to watch as well.

      Speaking of The Professionals and Hill’s frequent on-screen partner Bud Spencer, the movie The 5-Man Army is, sort of, a spaghetti version of that. In addition to him, it also features Peter Graves. I can’t find it on either YouTube or Odysee, but it was shown on TCM a few years ago, so maybe it’ll re-appear its schedule some time.

    3. On a somewhat related subject, on my way back to Edmonton from Fort St. John yesterday, a number of freedom supporters were still at the border crossing point, though the roadside signs had been taken down. A number of drivers, including me, showed their support.

      Like on Sunday, it was peaceful and the worst thing I heard said was that forbidden word: “Freedom!” But, I guess, that’s not what Prinz Dummkopf had in mind about Canadians “being there for each other”.

    When I taught first-year microeconomics, J reserved 20 minutes to graphically show why a top-rated movie star (e.g. George Clooney) deserved $20-million per picture. So I get it.

    But what bothers me is that Springsteen passes himself off as a populist “man of the people”, all the while toeing the leftis Democratic party line. He is elite, with his $5,000 tickets and all. People who buy these tickets are elite.

      1. I believe this strike is about California’s new “gig worker” … “independent contractor” law which would essentially FORCE drivers servicing the Port to become employees of the Port … or pay $thousands in fees.

        Just another way to eliminate personal/business FREEDOM.

    Shocking. Contractors have moved in heavy equipment at night, and erected tall fencing around the Park (now to become UC Berkeley Dorm Rooms). I never thought I’d see it in my lifetime. Cue the “tree sitters” to show up and delay construction …

  20. I was walking my dog Jack this morning, on a sunny day, our pleasant Fredericton subdivision, and stopped at a corner. A new pickup truck stopped at a stop sign next to us. Inside the truck driving was a guy in his 60s, wearing a large black N90 mask. Unbelievable, with New Brunswick recording few China floo hospitalizations.

      1. AOC as the Presidential Candidate, and Ilham (Elmi) Omar as the VP candidate would represent the new Socialist wing of the Democratic Party, perfectly!

        I wish they would run the two against whoever are the Republican candidates.

    “Warner Bros. has axed the $90 million “Batgirl” film planned for HBO Max, according to a person connected with the film who was not authorized to speak publicly about it.
    The decision was highly unusual for such a high-priced and nearly finished movie. But the studio ultimately decided “Batgirl” didn’t merit either a streaming debut or a theatrical release, and has instead opted to entirely write off the film starring “In the Heights” star Leslie Grace as Batgirl and co-starring Michael Keaton (returning as Batman), J.K. Simmons and Brendan Fraser. It was directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. Production wrapped in April.”

    “Ottawa police have arrested a man they say rammed a vehicle into the Parliament Hill gates while in possession of “edged weapons” including a sword.”

    And guess what? The man was free on bail for two counts of assault with a weapon: ” [Mathew] Pate was previously charged with two counts of assault with a weapon on May 2. He was out on release under the condition to possess no weapons.”

    If only he had been charged with mischief – he never would have been granted bail.

  31. A change is taking place in Ottawa.

    While the Bong is out of the country Frau Freeland is setting the table for her run to be PM. Today while out in fishworld Freeland floated the idea of Canada supplying the world with energy. Specifically LNG. Energy security for Europe is her message. Canada has been getting pounded by the Europeans for ‘hoarding’ it’s vast energy supply.

    I’m sure all this has been cleared through the Bong, but it is a marked departure from his policy. Maybe a sign he is taking the high jump.
